Better beans, more expertise making a perfect Americano in the traditional style, with proper crema and strength - third time visiting Sucre and the americanos are very weak, diluted and hollow. Also could promote the French theme with French cafe music and staff taking a little more care and flare with presentation and service. Go to Cafe Triste or Amato for the coffee, Sucre for the sweets. (There are mini courses on excellence in coffee preparation and service on Master Class, the baristas here need to learn their craft and take pride in it.)

The fantastic news is that there IS stunningly delicious kouign amann in Calgary! I first balked at La Boulangerie because I had bookmarked two other bakeries to try. But I'm so glad we came here. Walking up to the storefront, I took in the quaint outdoor tables and the people enjoying a coffee and brunch. The first language I heard outside was French, which only added to the idea that we were in the right place. It wasn't busy when we walked to the counter at an off hour during the week, but I could see this place being slammed on a nice weekend. Do yourself a favor and take the time to look at all of the treats in the case. I had no idea which one to pick, but I'm so happy I went with the pear marzipan croissant - something I wouldn't easily be able to find at home. The savory breakfast crepes were tasty but could have been enhanced by a sauce on the side - the ingredients inside were a little dry. The Nutella latte was AH-MAZE-ING. Sweet, hazlenutty, but not overpowering. I immediately looked up a recipe for a future attempt to recreate it at home. The standout by far was the kouign amann, which comes in more than one flavor (insert mind blown emoji here). My husband chose a vanilla-filled one. Holy lamination. The layers, the glaze, the crunch. The vanilla cream filling was somehow both fluffy and delicately flavored yet sturdy enough to survive a day in the car. If I could fly back to Calgary every weekend just to buy a single kouign amann from this place, I would. Service was wonderful and we were surprised that that instead of calling our number, the staff walked each component of our order out to us. Highly recommend. But their online ordering process & non-counter problem resolution: Absurdly frustrating. I've ordered a few cakes online from Crave so IF you order online be prepared for a janky, flawed, poorly coded e-commerce site that won't intelligently log you in [if you have an account], won't use past orders as intelligent preferences for pick location to past order preferences, etc. -- and whatever you do, don't just double-check the details before you confirm [eg: pick up location, etc.], triple-check, and then check your conformation receipt because their site code will and has made spontaneous changes. If you decide to add a message, or lettering, etc. just before confirming; if you search different pick dates for a location; the pick up location can spontaneously change. Change it back; and check something else, check the location again because the site may have changed it. The checkout workflow is just comically bad. And if your cake is at the wrong location despite working really hard to give Crave business and be precise with your order, there is no inter-store movement of orders even if it's their administrative error. Like, nothing. Their drivers won't go between stores. Uber would do for $5; but not Crave operationally. If an error happens, the professional front counter staff will do their best to solve the problem but it seems they don't get much systems/organisation support. Enjoy a lovely wonderful product. Oh Crave, Why must you be so sweet and delicious? After a…read morelong day in the office, I was driving home when my tummy grumbled!! Not the normal grumble when it grumbles when your hungry for anything, but a different grumble....a craving for cupcake grumble!! Immediately, I thought that I needed a cupcake! Instead of going straight home, I kept driving...I could taste the peanut butter cupcake.....now the strawberry one....now the red velvet, OH!! Then! it starts raining..... oh great, this better be well worth it! -_- Finally I arrive at Crave, the smell of the cupcakes and the look of them are amazing..they're so pretty! Initially, I only wanted to get one cupcake, because if i get more that only means that I eat them all.. So I keep admiring the cupcakes and can't just choose one, so I get half a dozen. (oh man, all the calories and sweet sweet goodness in my tummy) I chose the Peanut butter, Strawberry, Vanilla, Signature, Chocolate and Red Velvet. I usually like getting the cupcake of the month but they were out, but I'm still happy! While the lady was putting the ribbon on the container, we were chatting when she told me that they're opening another Crave in Saskatoon, Saskatwean. COOL!
