He was diagnosed with Asperger's around the age of 4 years old and we were instructed to start him on medications. We disagreed and began occupational and speech therapy with our school district. We began looking for extracurricular activities he could participate in so we checked out DTA. We had concerns because at the time he was barely verbal and couldn't follow much instruction. We spoke with Mr. D about his diagnosis but also wanted to make sure that Luke was held accountable and treated, for the most part, like any other student. He loved it! Mr. D and his staff were incredibly gracious and much to our surprise Luke began learning patterns quickly having to remember several moves and techniques in order to move through different levels of skill. Several times he wasn't able to complete patterns to move through different belts and Mr. D didn't make exceptions if he didn't make it. However, he always encouraged him through his missteps and I witnessed Mike do this with other kids as well. Luke will soon be 17 yrs old and we are looking at colleges this spring. He has always viewed his years with DTA with fondness and it is clear that he was provided mentorship through several instructors as well as Mr. D. The money spent with DTA is really inconsequential for as much as we received in return. We can't recommend this place enough!
