Generally, rural areas don't get a lot of places with "cool atmosphere" as it's more metropolitan neighbors do but the aspect I liked most about Crazy Bob's in Hartly (upon my first impression) was that it had a good atmosphere with it's decor and center bar area placement. It felt like the kind of restaurant you'd find in a college town, and that impressed me. Personally, I think we could use more places like that around here. But the food is probably what you're more curious about, and to that end I can say I never had anything there that I didn't personally like. My favorite is the Southwestern Burger, as it has just enough of a bite without being overpowering. They also serve a delicious corn bread there that is very sweet in spite of the fact that it has some green pepper in it. The times I've been there, the service has been excellent and friendly. In fact, on one occasion some time back, I was eating there with my father and a woman at a table near us began to choke as a piece of food that got stuck in her throat. A situation I'm sure we've all seen on tv or in movies, but the reality of which is horrifying when you see someone in trouble but is trying not to cause a scene and people freeze as they don't know what they should do - all in an instant. But one of the wait staff there quickly came over and performed the Heimlich, helping the woman out. A unfortunate circumstance that no one wants to happen, but just one of those situations in life and it was cool to see someone who worked there handle the situation in such a quick and effective manner. So, kudos to the waitress who was on the ball that night. If you're looking to go out to eat some night in Northwest Iowa and are tired of the usual options in Spencer, consider going over to Crazy Bob's in Hartley. Try 'em out for yourself. read more

10/7/23 - This is the most disgusting restaurant I've literally ever eaten at and I'm not even exaggerating. I ordered a basic burger and fries. The fries were hard as hell and didn't even taste like potatoes. The burger was nasty and tasted like old, re-heated meat. The atmosphere has a country casual vibe, very unique. The food is good and reasonably priced. Most of it is made from scratch i.e. lumpy mashed potatoes. The menu has a lot of options, there is definitely something for everyone. The servers are friendly. Great place to eat and meet with friends. It's worth the drive. read more

Food is Great! We always try to make it into Crazy Bob's when were are in Hartley. I recommend the burger with pulled pork on top with some Texas sauce and waffle fries. My wife enjoys the brisket with the sweet berry sauce That Bob should be institutionalized! read more

I have eaten here at least a dozen times. I've never had anything that I didn't like. They feature BBQ which is good but I love the burgers, Man salad, drunken chicken, and the salmon the best. The drinks are great too, at least a dozen tap beers. Lastly, the service is great! read more

We took our family from out of town to Crazy Bob's in Hartley last Saturday as our past dining experiences there had been so great. SO DISAPPOINTED! Our service was horrible. Despite many open tables it took the bartender to finally seat us. We the ordered the potato skins for our appetizer. They came out of the kitchen and sat on the bar for 10 minutes before they were served. They were ice cold so asked the bartender (now also our server) to please microwave them to reheat. They came back again cold even though we were told they were a fresh plate - not true! We ordered the party platter. Big mistake! The ribs tasted like lighter fluid and the pulled pork was dry and stringy. This was a $60 mistake. Don't know if we'll ever go back. read more
