We travel through this town at least once per year on our way to Iowa. Greensburg is a very small town and on this day we were there at 4:45.This was our 4th time ordering food to go. Food is typical, and as expected. The service has a lot to improve on. This week we entered the restaurant and we were greeted with by a woman that was either having a very bad day or needs a new job. She was rude, short and very ungrateful for our order. While Greensburg, Kansas in not in the middle of nowhere, it is adjacent to it. Our experience with small restaurants in small towns has been less than enjoyable with the occasional great find. We were very disappointed with our visit to Crazy Mule. Our waitress was not friendly and even used her phone while bringing our food. Refrigerated condiments were left sitting out on the table, which didn't seem very sanitary. We ordered a cheeseburger with onion rings and chicken strips. Both tasted like they were cooked in old grease -- the chicken strips were hard and seemed like they had been reheated several times. Everything was also served in plastic, which made the meal feel cheap. Overall, not a good experience and we won't be back. read more

I stopped here for lunch on a Wednesday at noon. I would say the place was about half full. The restaurant is larger than it looks from the outside. I was told to sit anywhere, and I took a table. My server came right over and took my drink order and gave me a menu. The menu was not large, but for a breakfast or lunch stop, it's fine. When she returned with my drink, she took my order for a Club Sandwich with Chips. My lunch was served right away, within five minutes, and it looked very good. The bread was only cut in half instead of quarters and it made the sandwich easier to eat. This sandwich had a lot of meat, it was really a very good Club Sandwich. The chips were nothing special, but they went really well with the sandwich. For what this lunch cost, I thought I got great value for the money. I would most definitely eat here again. read more

Found this gem while staying in the local RV Park The dinner was so good (excellent hamburger) that we cam back for breakfast. Food was excellent and the service was prompt and friendly. We stopped in near closing for a bite to eat after driving all day. We were greeted promptly and told to sit at any open table. Sign above our table said ask about our steak special. Server asked if we wanted a ribeye steak and added it comes with choice of potato and 21 item salad bar. Salad bar was picked over but it was closing so completely understandable, but not worth the price of $14.95 stand alone per menu. After we ate, we brought our ticket to pay and were beyond surprised by the total of $109 for 2 meals and 2 cokes! Never thought to ask how much the special was going to cost. I wish I had taken a picture of the most amazing omelette (that I had for lunch) before I devoured it. Best stop so far on our cross country road trip. You know you are in the right place when the bathrooms are clean and it is full of plants and great antiques and the locals are all arriving for lunch. Breakfast is served all day, along with the standard sandwiches and burgers. The surprise was a salad bar offering. Lovely waitress even let me update my toast to a biscuit. Yum. read more

The food here is okay. I've had the club sandwich which had a lot of white bread and cold cuts... wasn't my favorite. My son ordered a Van special and it looked like a lot of stuff happening, but he ate it and loved it. last time I had a burger and it was unfortunately dry and over cooked. It's too bad because the waitress (pictured in my sons photo) is super sweet but the food is tolerable not great! I keep going back for the service and will hopefully get a different meal next time. read more

Just what we were looking for in an on-the-road breakfast stop, only BETTER! Good, simple menu, eggs cooked just right, better coffee than most places (& refilled frequently!) The kickers are the beautifully done Ranch Style decor, especially the main area "chandelier" & creatively framed historical photos of the area. Open, airy yet comfy & relaxing. Welcoming. All that being said, the best part for me were the sweet & attentive owner (also the creative genius) & her young "copper miner" fellow whose name I neglected to get, that made us feel like we were having breakfast at a friend's place. Wow, the first time back in Greensburgh since the Tornado. Amazing what they did with the town and we found the Crazy Mule in the new downtown district. We had a great buffet along with a super salad bar with homemade desserts. Friendly staff as well. Highly recommend! read more

So, decided to give this place a second try. First try was terrible. I understand it is under new management so hope thing improved. Atmosphere: Everything seemed clean and up to date. Music was a little loud. But really the atmosphere was good. Service: We were seated very quickly and the waitress did an pretty good job. She said it was her third day at the job so I can overlook her little mistakes. Food: They were having a "garment hamburger buffet". The hamburgers were pretty good. However, they were no different than what anyone would make at home. The side item to add to the hamburger were cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and mustard. The French Fries were flat out cold. Nothing "Garment" about it. Thus, they were way over priced. So, I returned to give this place a second chance. It was a second flop. I want go back for a third trip. read more

When our large group of 10 with three chldren came in, we were escorted to the back area, without even considering our order and not giving any other option nor menu but the buffet. We were just told to go through. Assuming because it was Sunday and we were a large group, we figured we had no other option. No where on the menu that I looked at later was the buffet listed and certainly I found no price listed anywhere. When I went to pay the bill, I found out it was $25/person. As we left, we saw other people eating food ordered off the menu so obviously buffet was not the only option. My daughter commented that we had beenn sucker-punched. I would heartily agree. I don't know of anywhere in bigger cities with really good food that would charge that much and this was mediocre food. Also the. wait staff were not friendly. Family ate here for lunch yesterday and was very impressed overall. Food was fresh, restaurant was clean and interesting decorated. We had a wrap, grilled cheese, burgers, several salads and kids mac-n-cheese. During the ordering process it seemed it was going to be difficult to eat there, as a few of the items we tried to order, they were out of already. But, we proceeded on and found items to order and those all worked out well. ALL the food we tried was good and all appeared to be freshly prepared. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. During our meal our drinks were always filled and our table was always prebussed. The dinner entrée selection sounded very good - wish we could have stayed longer but was there to see "The Big Well" and a few of the other items in the immediate area and needed to get back to Dodge City for a movie there. Went there for steaks. Ribeye's were nice size and thick. Waitress friendly and very busy. Atmosphere was okay. The problem was they have no idea how to cook a good steak! It apparently was cooked on a hot griddle. Ordered medium rare. The steak was 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" thick, which is great. The inside was cold and rare with outside overcooked and well done. There was no way to send back and improve. No flavor not sure it was even seasoned. For the price it definitely was not a good experience. Mine was mostly cold as I tried to eat it. I have NO plans to ever return. Too bad because we live not far away and there are not many choices. read more

The menu is limited and it takes a long while to get ones food, though the staff is nice enough and I think they may be short staffed and it's Greensburg so I can't really expect a grand experience. I ate there with my son, and our burgers were good, although our french fries and onion rings were somewhat overcooked, and room temperature. The McKenzie burger has a great mix of flavors.
