The free breakfast lured me into going to a Creative Morning Buffalo meeting....Just kidding..this was a fantastic opportunity. I was never part of any group outside work and did something that I liked. I am glad, I found Creative Morning where people can talk about their passion and inspire others. Happens every second Friday of the month with a global theme and local speaker. It was a casual and informal environment with bite sized portion and lots of coffee and juices. The presenter was all being herself and gave her thoughts out. I am going to make a honest effort to be participate and contribute to this good effort and share my learning and learn from others. It is a good channel to get your focus on things that are outside your mundane list. It also provides exposure to local talents and service offerings and job opportunities through the 30 second/elevator pitch style. Meet new people in your town and socialize and collaborate. Kudos to the buffalo creative morning team for their high spirit and dedication to the event.
I've attended the first two Creative Mornings/Buffalo events--and I'm already planning to make it a habit of attending EVERY month. The events are extremely well organized, interesting, and informative. The crowd size is perfect; lot of interesting people to meet, but not so big that it feels overwhelming. The breakfasts are, honestly, dazzlingly good (for any large event, not just a free one). The speakers are terrific and inspiring. I just love it. One tip: Register EARLY--the event fills up quickly.
I really enjoy this monthly speaker series. I love that the location rotates which allows me to see different areas/businesses in the City, and I get to hear about all the fun creative stuff going on in the community and meet the awesome people involved. I work from home and can easily get stuck in a bubble, and CreativeMornings is a great way to force me out of that bubble and interact with other creative minds. Routine can be a creativity killer, so I am always grateful for the monthly shakeup of that routine! Plus the free breakfast and coffee doesn't hurt! CreativeMornings is an awesome outlet for creative people to get even more inspiration. Once a month, creatives have the opportunity to hear an inspirational talk, mix and mingle, and caffeinate! Operating in 140+ cities around the globe, Creative Mornings Buffalo is a "baby" of sorts, starting just a few months ago when Kelly Atkinson became the "Buffalo host." There are five or so other awesome individuals who comprise the Creative Mornings Buffalo team (videographers, speaker liaison, animator, designer, photographs, etc.) and collaborate every month to put together a morning of creative inspiration. Of the five talks thus far, I've had the opportunity to attend the second and latest (Erica Cope speaking on Risk and Gaia Amman speaking on Love) which were both incredible. Sadly I missed three months due to work obligations and graduation... Each month's topic is actually selected by a city and, in turn, all 140+ cities around the world all speak on the same topic. Of course, it is interesting to see how each speaker/city interprets it. Since there is a phenomenal videographer on the team, you can watch the talks online after the fact (https://creativemornings.com/cities/buf/talks) if you aren't able to make it in person. On that note, be sure to set an alarm/reminder notification and sign up immediately when the RSVPs open. I think each and every talk thus far has had a substantial wait list. The people who attend are creatives in the community. How you define "creative people" is seemingly up for interpretation so I do think anyone can attend. However, it's best for people who have ideas to share, need help with their projects, or can help others with their projects. At the end of each talk is a brief question and answer period and then a couple thirty second "pitches" from people in the audience who spread the word on what they're working on and what they may need from the audience. The morning opens up with a mix and mingle period over coffee (!) and a grab-and-mingle breakfast and concludes with another mingle session for those who don't have to rush off to work. After all, the events in Buffalo are the second Friday of each month from about 8:30am-10:00am. I must say the sponsors of the breakfasts have been amazing. Public Espresso, Ashkers, Paula's Donuts, Caffeology, all so fabulously delicious. The location of the talks changes. I've attended at Dig Co-working Space around the Medical Corridor and also at the Colored Musicians Club! Kelly and her team do an incredible job to liven up the guests at the end of the workweek and ensure they all leave caffeinated and full of inspiration to keep on creating. This free inspirational lecture series is well run. Held at a different location on the second Friday of each month, it's truly worthwhile for local creatives. As disscussed at the event this month, which was centered around the theme of Equality, the day and time make it restrictive to only people who have the luxury of free time during a weekday morning, which leaves out most of the population. That being said, if you can, cïome and check it out if you like learning about your creative local community and you want inspiration. The previous reviews were very thorough, so I will make a quick list for you of helpful steps instead of more background. 1. You must register early online. 2. A paper ticket is not needed. 3. Arrive early to mingle and get coffee and a small bite. 4. There is usually not a lot of food, but delicious, so be prepared. 5. They have run out of coffee. 6. Do your best to remember to bring your own mug, they're big on not wasting. 7. The crowd is usually filled with artsy people, young entrepreneurs, and occasionally hipsters. 8. In other words, don't bring a mug with an Exxon logo unless you want confrontation... 9. You sign in at the door, fill out a nametag and write on it your answer to the conversation kickstarter question. This month it was "If you could have unlimited amounts on one thing, what would it be?" 10. Secure a seat early, if that's important to you. Both times I've attended they ran out of seats. 11. If you're part of a business, consider presenting a 30 second pitch for collaborative services and sign up online to do so in a very good environment. 12. If you create a consumable product, contact them about contributing to the event, because the people who attend are movers and shakers in our community and are very supportive of local goods. read more
