Strike 1 Stop stealing peoples money. I bought a car 11 years ago. The dealership selected Credit Union One because they had the lowest interest rate. However, I never got a payment book. I called and was told that the machine that makes payment books were broken. I was sent a cut out coupon that contained the info needed to identify my account when I send payment. Strike 2 I was given a savings account with the loan. I sent would send money to account. I got a check for $300 and was told the account I received was not to be used for savings but to identify the account. I opened a savings account. Strike 3 I retired in 2024. I tried to close the account but was told to leave it open I case I needed to get a loan. I didn't do anything with the account for a year. I got to check the $200 is gone! I got no notices or anything!! $200 may not be much but to a retired person it is. Definite crooks! Consumer beware!! read more

I got hired for a great new job and used the deposit an electronic check button on the app and they wouldn't let me make a deposit and cut me off feom online banking. At the drive thru, the traitorous teller with a huge cross around her neck said that they prefer deposits that are only cash or check. She said not to use direcr deposit with an employer either. CAR LOAN NIGHTMARE Worst CU experience, would give them ZERO if I could. The car dealer that sold the vehicle (also a zero!), and this loan - did not tell us until closing this is who it was through. They have no branches in my area, so you have to deal with Ferndale. And online. Paid it off, now I cant get a lein release. They provide no paperwork, terrible on responses. Find a better financial institution. After being a member of Credit Union One for over 20 years, I will be closing all of our accounts. On a Saturday afternoon, my family experienced a tragedy, and we needed to admit three of our pets to a vet hospital. However, I was unable to leave a deposit because the credit union has an arbitrary spending limit and, due to their very limited hours of operation, we couldn't reach anyone by phone to resolve the issue. Our pets were unable to receive treatment because Credit Union One prevented us from accessing our money in our accounts. read more

There are so many negative things I'd like to say about your company I'm just unsure how far back we want to go. I'm a member for about 20 years now. CUOne was great when I was new and it was my first credit union. Since then it's just steadily declined in customer service and even more recently during Covid. I'm just going to start from where I began to see it turn . There were unknown charges on my checking account that kept recurring unbeknownst to me. They were 3 small charges for about 3.99 or 5.99 so you wouldn't really notice that. When it was Finally noticed, your CS representative told me"oh yeah we've been seeing this on a lot of peoples accounts , you're like the 3rd one just today" but when this happened I was only allowed 3 months of the Several months of money put back into my account. a fraud department was even looking into it - I had the proof of it happening but nope - wouldn't allow me to have the 180.00 placed back into my account . So that was where I noticed this CU doesn't care for their customers or customer loyalty. The 2nd major issue was I was turned down for a 6k loan to get a car by the CUONE after being a member for 20 years but a different credit union approved me!! Wow! 3rd issue has happened for MONTHS NOW. My debit card pin never works anywhere. I write it down / it doesn't work I call customer Service- they have me reset it - it doesn't work - I call customer Service- they have me reset it/ OR ( this is my favorite one) I take time on my lunch to go into the credit union to get it solved / I am treated poorly - made to PAY a fee to reset my pin and it still has never worked. I recently called at night when I was out of gas in the cold winter and it doesn't swipe as credit there and the CUONE just tells me " you have to call tomorrow " OMG IM OUT OF GAS and you have my money and it's 6 degrees outside! Sorry ma'am - ". I hung up on her and cried. A nice woman saw me and gave me 5.00 and said " pay it forward " Thank goodness for her. So tonight -after resetting it yet Again just 2 days ago- I try it at a self checkout- Declined Chip Card Info Now I'm not a tech wizard or anything but my chip is damaged - and not one time has any customer service rep suggested a new card - NOT ONE! So ....tonight I call again after this decline message and speak with same girl I hung up on 3 days ago - and she tells me " you need to reset your pin". OMG WHO TRAINS THESE PEOPLE!?I I tell her NO- that isn't the problem so she continues to go back through every event of my card not working due to the chip issue/. When I finally say " I'm Not sure what you're doing because I need a new card. The chip is damaged ! She then says ok I'll turn your card off so we can send you a new one - omg NO! I'm done . I tried to take a car loan out since I seen they had really good interest rates. That was the whole purpose of getting an account. It was so hard to get a representative to talk me it was ridiculous. I applied 3 times online, I called multiple times . I kept getting he will call you back after he's off the phone. I have his name written down I cannot quite remember. If I remember I will come back. When I finally got a hold of him after 4 days he was very rude and snippy Because I contacted him so much. Trying to get this car at a dealership before someone buys, of course. Anyways he said I couldn't take a loan out because I'm currently disabled. And they don't give CAR loans out to people who are on disability. I KID YOU NOT!!!! I told him I'm going back to work in 2 weeks. My doctor is going to clear me in 2weeks. I need a car available to get to work. I offered to show proof that I had a paid caretaker driving me around. And I want him to drive my car till I could work. NO..... he said until He has a copy of a doctor's clearance, AS OF NOW, he won't give me the loan. When did the bank get involved with healthcare??? What next, you want to know my health history???? This is a lesson for individuals that primarily use atms for deposits. I went to deposit my MORTGAGE PAYMENT and Money AND card got taken by the atm. I have to wait until FRIDAY for the machine to be balanced. I'm pretty sure the machine is not going to be broken this long as the atm stated it was out of service after my money got stuck. I pray that whoever services it is honest and puts all the money that was left there, in the reject bin cuz at this point, it's my word against theirs. In 2015 had been a member since 1973 when it was Ferndale Credit Union, I was dealt the last straw when I closed my account after 42 years when I found out that they charged me several fees I was unaware of when they changed their minimum deposit requirement with out notifying me. My father was one of the charter members of this credit union, I was treated like a vagrant when I expressed my dissatisfaction with my treatment when trying to resolve resolving the issue. Very bad service from Credit Union One. Stay away from there. Opened account with them in 2011. They told me if I opened both saving and checking accounts (linked) at the same time, I wouldn't get any admin fee or charge. Later, I moved to a new house in Michigan still. I've never received my monthly statement or notification from Credit Union One during my 1 year with them before or after my move. Otherwise I would have updated my address with them immediately after I moved. I had the mail-forwarding service from USPS. Now I remember I still have accounts with them. Called them twice. The last call was with Lavida, who helped me find out that all my money in my accounts were gone in 2018, since they charged admin fees every month and closed my accounts. That's inconsistent for what I had been told if the saving and checking accounts were linked - free of charge. I had $500 deposit in the checking, and $5 in the saving account. All my $505 was gone just because I didn't update my address with them, which is unacceptable. Lavida said the remaining balance $29 was sent to State of Michigan as unclaimed property. I've checked, nothing is under my name as unclaimed property. Then they spent about 1 hour on the phone, told me they didn't send the remaining money to State of Michigan because the $29 paid for their work of closing my accounts. Ridiculous. That's my story. We have had checking and savings with CUOne for six years, and have never encountered a problem. Not one rude person, no problem with accounts, and very helpful customer service on the few encounters I've had with them. For example, our debit card number was stolen but the problem was resolved with no cost to us for the charges and we had new debit cards in hand the next morning. Cash-back and fee-free checking ftw. The interest rate on the account could be higher (.05 is definitely not competitive). Of course BofA used to charge fees left and right, and I don't remember any interest or cash back from them. On 13 February 2020, we submitted an application for refinancing our mortgage. We paid $600 at the time of application. We completed DocuSigns, submitted information and waited. And waited. And waited. The person who was "working" with us did not keep us well informed. The person sent us misleading information and did not ensure the loan progressed. On 31 May 2020, three and a half months later, the loan service worker, informed us of a need for additional information and that another appraisal would be required. And, we still do not have a loan approval, closing date, etc. I took this type of behavior and response as a sign of how unimportant I, as a customer, am, how I will be treated in the future, and what types of responses I can expect. This was an expensive lesson learned. CU One took $600 from me! Apparently, there was no real interest in mortgaging my property. Rather, this was an exercise in how to bilk me out of my money. I know the application said this was a non-refundable application. But, that assumes that CU One would move expeditiously to process the mortgage application. read more

1 Star because 0 stars is not a choice. CU One changed its online banking platform on May 5. Previously available functionality that I relied on greatly has disappeared. Transaction history that was available on May 1st is not available May 9. The web page showing account info looks like the result of an assignment for a high school web page design class. Nice for a 15 year old student with no online banking experience, but from a supposed professional IT consultant team it's laughable. My account was closed without my knowledge consent or notification the day I had money put in. When they close your account they also close your debit card, I am now in Los Angeles and have no way to access this money. When I called and spoke to Kathleen I was told that a card was being overnighted to me for my inconvenience, this was not true apparently they do not overnight cards. So then it was going to take three days, it is now almost been two weeks. I spoke with someone this morning and they told me it was already supposed to be delivered and if I don't get it by Monday which will be two weeks they will overnight one. Even though I've been previously told overnighting is apparently impossible. This experience is horrible, this is absolutely ridiculous, it's been two weeks and I keep getting told different things every time I call. How do you do a major upgrade of your app for your credit union without carrying over features that you had on the old system? Personally setup categories and memo notations from all of my prior transactions no longer exist. Also, as of now, no check images are available. This is the worst "upgrade" that I've ever seen. I've been a member of another credit union since I was 18, but was looking for a local credit union for my fiancé and I to open a joint account. Because of my overwhelmingly positive experience with MSUFCU, I mistakenly thought that all credit unions would have a similar level of service. How wrong I was. It has been nothing but problems ever since we opened this account. I told them at the outset that I wanted to opt out of "overdraft protection", and that any debit card transactions should be declined if the funds are not there, rather than letting it go through and charging us a fee. We try to stay on top of what's in the account, but it's not our main bank account, and with two people using a debit card, I just wanted to cover my bases. I'd rather have a card be declined and just pay cash or use a different card than pay a fee. Long story (somewhat) shorter, I am in the midst of trying to resolve the fact that I'm still getting fees charged, despite having repeatedly (three times) told them I wanted to opt out. This most recent time, I called customer service on 1/31 and was told that they were short staffed because of the snowstorm and someone would call me back. Fine. After waiting 3 or 4 days, I called again and was told that my request was "in the system". I called again today, TWO WEEKS after my initial call, only to speak to someone who, again, couldn't help me. He said he would "try" to get my request answered in one business day. I normally don't use Yelp for these types of rants, but this is just beyond acceptable and I would strongly advise anyone considering opening an account there to think twice about it. Despite the inconvenience (since we already ordered checks and have auto bill pays set up), I think we'll be cutting our losses and closing this account soon. read more

I've been a member 30 years with wife. Recent software update to website and mobil app... 1 year ago. The mobile app sucks, so it was upgraded. Now it is worse. Same with website. The tech support folks know less than I do about using the app. Terrible training...or no training at all for employees that you call and talk to about it. Terrible software. Terrible support. The lady told me she could "note" the account for me them tries to get me off the phone before taking any information. This is the worst financial institution I have ever had the misfortune of conducting business with. They are grossly incompetent, and their predatory ways are disgusting. NO ONE SHOULD TRUST THEM WITH MONEY. The customer service is horrific, their policies are stacked against their members, they knowingly provide inaccurate information. I have had this account for 3 years now and never reported a fraudulent transaction. They sent me a new card with a whole new PIN randomly and an ATM ate my debit card when I attempted to make a withdrawal. CUOne told me they would refund the money when the investigation was closed, and I received a deposit for the money hours later so I assumed it was handled. Today, 30 DAYS LATER they "investigated" and took the money stating that the ATM didn't come up out of balance. This put my account in the negative. OBVIOUSLY the money could have been stolen because the ATM--which is a machine--could have malfunctioned and spit my money out later for someone else, which is why there are CAMERAS. I insisted they check the security cameras so they "reopened" the claim. It should never have been closed if the security camera wasn't checked. And they refuse to refund my money "until the investigation was closed." Which means my account will be in the negative until they half ass investigate again. The "supervisor" stated that it could take up to 60 days, then when I asked him again to verify he said he wasn't sure and admitted to providing me potentially false information knowingly...which is what ALWAYS happens. He told me I would get a call back from accounting that I never received. The calls are not recorded for quality assurance, they don't have interaction numbers. They can lie to you and tell you anything which they often do and you have no proof unless your record it yourself. They don't train their employees properly, they are very disorganized an they do whatever they want with your money. Many times, I've been told that it's at the credit union's discretion if they want to let a charge to your debit card go through so sometimes, they'll deny my Netflix payment because my account is a dollar short. Other times, they authorize the payment if there's no money in there (because I frequently empty this account to avoid having problems with them) and they charge me an overdraft. read more

They are constantly charging you fees for things that you have opted out of, and the call center has the rudest people i have ever dealt with in my life. Not to mention the fact that you cannot call your branch, you have to call the call center. They are not willing to work with you to fix their mistakes, it took 6 phone calls and going into the branch for over an hour to fix a 120 dollar mistake THEY made with MY money.
