I've been here for Rigatoni's, Bank of the West (Now BMO), Health Unlimited, and iSushi. On the other side was a Safeway, Ross, Castro Valley Bowl along with other businesses. Update: after coming to the Village Shopping Center additional times since my above comment had been notarized, there are days or perhaps certain times of the day where the parking lot appears empty and it is easy to find parking, while on the majority of times / days I have been - they are usually packed with hardly any parking avail. Sometimes I have been lucky to snag a spot where someone was just about to back out. The spaces are kind of tight and narrow pathways, drive slowly! There are a lot of businesses that have remained here since I was a child and student at CVHS. Lots of new fronts and name changes to others. I haven't taken a stroll around the entire center, but there's a drug store, ice cream parlor, discounted home goods, apparel stores, fitness businesses, specialty goods and boutiques, bakeries, coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, the bowling alley is still here, nail salons, juicers, and more. Since its the holiday time, they had a tree lighting ceremony advertised. I thought that was a nice community event that might bring people and families together, though I questioned where the tree was going to be due to the tight space. I would want this center to continue to have a lot of business - good businesses here. I want to see CV's downtown area become an area that I would like to frequent or go to vs. driving to Danville or Walnut Creek or San Ramon. I hope there would be ways to create more parking around the area while increasing the businesses or being strategic in which new businesses should open to create a thriving atmosphere.

The enforcers circle the lot and only this lot only. Went to go pick up my drinks, left a minute. Came back for a ticket. Looks like they stake out to check if drivers leave for a moment and ticket them right away. Watch them patrol the plaza, they don't leave, just circle the same plaza and watch. They also have a good selection of dress shoes for men if you can find your size. The prices?? Well, they are decent, not as cheap as before, sometimes, you might be able to negotiate the price in some stores. Don't quote me on that though, if you know what I mean. I always see my folks in the jewelry section, so there's that. Located in East Oakland (Yeah, that's right), the larger parking lot is in the back, which I suggest since it's easier to get in and out of. Maybe it's me, but I've always liked coming here!!

"Greenhouse Marketplace" is a large open-air shopping mall in San Leandro, CA. It was opened in the…read moremid-1980's, and its website says it currently has 44 tenants. It's got a prime location right next to the I-880 & I-238 freeway junction. Why is it called "Greenhouse" Marketplace? Because before this triangular piece of land was developed into a shopping center, it was the home of rows of greenhouses. You could see them from the freeway. Long rows of glass topped greenhouses. Today it's home to a variety of stores, shops, and restaurants. It's a nice place to stop and take a break while passing thru town. Anchor stores include- Safeway, CVS, and FoodMaxx. What's negative about this place? There are some empty storefronts. The parking lot has a weird design. It probably looked fine on paper, but in reality, it's like "free style" driving. Cars are coming from different directions and there seems to be a lack of stop signs and/or traffic flow signage. Then some people think it's okay to just drive across empty parking spaces. I've never had a problem because I always stop before someone runs into me. But if you are in the area of Lewelling Blvd & I-880, drop by and visit the Greenhouse Marketplace. If you enter from Washington Ave, you will be greeted by a McDonalds and a Jack in the Box. Lots of free parking!

This is a solid shopping center in the downtown area. I'm attempting to review all of the places in the center and almost forgot to review the center itself! There is a nice selection of food, services and shopping here. There is a Walgreens for your home and personal needs, including prescriptions. My only complaint about the center is that the parking is less than desirable. It's always a waiting game no matter when I go. I usually ah e to park and walk a little bit to get to my desired location. All in all, this is a nice little shopping area for our town. I'd be even happier if things stayed open later but as long as a double check hours before going, I am usually good to go.

Something I learned is to ask the employees to see if they have extra sizes in the back. The shoe selection for the 9.5 wearers has been kinda weak though. While they have more shoes out on the racks, I feel like the hidden gem is harder to find. The shorts, hoodie and crew neck selection has been pretty solid lately as well. I lot of them are in the $19-30 range. My workout shirt wardrobe needed a refresh, I was able to find a bunch for $14-20. As someone who doesn't like paying full price online, this store continues to be a staple whenever I'm in the area. Selfishly I wish they had more golf polos lol

Mind you, items are expensive BUT they are quality. I still have plastic bins I purchased when I started teaching and are in tip-top shape, unlike bins you'd purchase at the dollar store. I now go to get end of the year certificates or to use the laminating machine. *I do have one complaint--I've walked in a number of times needing to laminate and the laminator has not been turned . Both times I've been in a rush and have had to wait for it to heat up--10 minutes. May not seem like a lot but it used to always be on and ready to go.
