It is truly a shame that this former residents family is attempting to denigrate this outstanding senior living facility after all the care and comfort that was provided over the years. So, I am proud to give this facility a 5 star rating. Most residents, past and present, would be happy to declare their experience as "Parc Proud". I know one man that has lived there happily for over 15 years. They also have vendors come in almost every day. They have Taco and margaritas every Tuesday. There a pet rescue that comes in regularly to just allow some love for both the homeless pets and the residents. Overall, I'd recommend, especially if you have your own generator for emergencies.

There is no handbook. It's little bits of knowledge you glean from friends, other people in a doctor's waiting room, caregivers, online searches, and AARP magazine. You piece together a plan: not knowing what all is available to you, what to avoid, what's a waste of time, what's going to be the best random choice you'll make, or what is going to happen next in terms of health decline or improvement. You make the best decisions you can, based on basically no knowledge/experience in a chaotic, complicated environment. Choosing Delmar for my mother was the best decision we made - luckily, fortunately, unknowingly. It comes down to, "What will her daily life be like? How will she be cared for, when I can't be there?" No online views of attractive facilities or happy residents can tell you that. It's a leap of faith, entrusting your parent to strangers. So I'm going to use this space to answer the kind of questions *we* had - in terms of what we found *at Delmar* , not the other nearby Smyrna/Atlanta places. For those, I can't help you - knowing teveryone gives the same standard info online, on the phone, in person. Every day I visit my mother, so I think I have a good handle on how they perform. **What care can she get?** This is a little complicated. Because I actually didn't know what kind of care she needed. Or how to determine that. I just knew that she could not live with us and he longer; her daily level of need was too great for me to manage. I was struggling to keep her showered, dressed, fed, taken to doctors, care with medicines & for wounds, much less entertained, loved, and cognizant of what's going on. A full-time job it had become. Even when I'd hire a "sitter" once in a while, I was using that free time to sleep or rest. Delmar helped me understand that they could do the care parts, so I could spend my time with her in other ways. She went into Assisted Living. (I had been so afraid she'd need Nursing Home care - which is a big jump from living on the same farm for 86 years, to basically a room. Though that's what she had, at our house for the past 6 months.) It was A LOT of "assisted" - and has grown to be a lot more, in the past 3 years. They did all the things I had been doing for her. She was still quite ambulatory, but had macular degeneration so her sight was about nil, and was very hard of hearing, so even with aids in, required yelling and patience. They offered MUCH assistance that we did not need. (But have since then needed): - Giving medicines - Getting her to the dining room for meals - Introduce her to other residents - Take her downstairs (for events, beauty shop, appointments) and take her back up - Do her personal laundry and also linens - Explain what is going on - Clean her apartment Eventually: - Give showers - Make her bed - Help her find clothes/dress - Remind her of dentures & hearing aids - Change diapers/help her remember - Walk her to bathroom in the middle of the night - Bring meals / snacks to her room And more. WITH A LOVING ATTITUDE, too. My mother is frustrating. But I've never seen a CNA or dining worker or maintenance person treat her with anything but kindness. Sure, there's the fact that I'm THERE and it could be otherwise when I'm not. But TRUST my mother would tell me! **How can I know things?" Delmar has been INCREDIBLY helpful in sharing what is available, outside of their own care - both free services and paid. They turned me on to how to get VA benefits, which halved her rent for us. Plus Medicare-covered podiatry services and flu shots. (Eventually, Covid.) And HOME HEALTH services to augment what Delmar does. Like, bringing in physical therapy, counseling talk-therapy, nursing visits. **Can we afford it?** It seemed SO expensive to us. But the other, less-great places around Atlanta were expensive, too. Management should be ashamed, we are all older people living here and pay quite a lot of money, money which includes meals. The food is not good, it is cold and often they don't order enough to give all what we ordered. We have spoken to the chef and the Director, both seem to do nothing. Winnwood Retirement Community is really a community with support and concern expressed in a variety of ways. The campus is beautiful! There are a few things prospective residents need to be aware of. The smell of cigarettes is pervasive throughout the campus--in the dining area, near the entrances of buildings, and sometimes in the parking lot. The smell permeates clothing and affects my breathing. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Dinner is inconsistent in quality and in portion size. Dinners are tasty about 80% of the time; sometimes portions are small. The grand piano is beautiful, and I played it often for several weeks last summer. However, the action of the keys is so stiff that my shoulders could not tolerate the physical challenge of playing that piano as it is right now. If the cigarette issue were resolved, dinners were consistently tasty, and the piano were adjusted so that it's playable, I could give Winnwood an unequivocal 5! I can heartily recommend almost all of the people here. It's a pleasant place to live!

Suzanne and Chuck went out of their way to make the adjustment as smooth as possible. After a few short weeks, she loved it there. All the workers were extremely kind to her. We had a few minor hiccups with her medications, but that is to be excepted and they were quick to fix the problems. Eventually my mom was placed in their memory care and I was happy with the care she was given. They helped get my mom on hospice and kept me aware of the hospice staff and how they were doing. The biggest gratefulness I have towards Benton House is when my mom fell and fractured her back. We thought for sure she would have to be placed in a nursing home. They were wonderful to accept her back and told me this was her home. She died a few weeks later, but happy and grateful that she was able to live her final days in a place she eventually fell in love with.

Filthy laundry rooms, furniture replacement needs in computer room and common areas, multiple language signage for trash areas, etc. Negative and unhelpful staff interactions with residents, etc. Nothing was changed on any issues discussed. Unsatisfactory conditions in too many common areas continue but we've got a new lobby and dining room. We don't have meals service but CS-B continues to lease our kitchen to outside company. The aging infrastructure is still aging and some things are slowly being replaced or repaired but aesthetics are prioritized. We'd rather have clean functional laundry rooms and computer room without non working printer and scanner. Common areas without stained nasty carpet and furniture, etc. We'd like to walk hallways without smelling nasty oily garlicy cooking odors from leased catering company using our building's kitchen day in and day out. Management/residents communication is also challenging. We receive notifications of repairs but they regularly are inconsistent with actual dates. We are not kept informed about changes in timelines in real time. Our schedules are not considered. The bugs continue to share our space. The now mandated exterminator service is managed by one man. It takes about 4 mos to be in rotation to get every apt sprayed. You can request individually but all 3 bldgs (400+ apts) need service more often. Rudeness, incompetence and bullying continues by most of staff. On the surface this place looks fine but in reality it is a marginal HUD/Atlanta Housing Authority project. If management held their staff accountable, used their available funds (net assets $9M+ for 2024 Schedule 990 per ProPublica website) and prioritized daily residents' needs this could be a positive, safe and healthy place to age but they choose aesthetics to show off to their BOD and prospective residents. They get you in the door with mission statements of caring and integrity but then ignore your requests for the safe, clean apt and common areas you use daily. This is NOT the haven their website indicates IMHO!

Campbell Stone is a low-income senior housing unit that is directly behind the Publix in Buckhead. I can't say enough about this place. Let's face it, most of these senior housing high rises are depressing, they smell, and feel dirty. One of the few exceptions is Campbell Stone. With qualification for low-income, they take 30% of the residents income for rent, and all utilities are free. If you want cable, it is only $15 a month. Campbell Stone recently went under a $11 million renovation. So all the apartments are in great condition and are a decent size as well. They have food services if you choose, a chapel, a barber shop, a newstand type store, consignment shop, exercise facility, common garden, and a part-time Bank of America branch. They also organize trips to the mall, grocery, movies and excursions to North GA, etc. The best part though, is the service. The employees really do care about the residents, and are friendly and helpful. Twice, my father-in-law was out of town and both times they called wondering where he was, to make sure everything was o.k. That is reassuring. It is amazing that they even notice these things with 15 floors of residents. Security is also good, they wouldn't even let Comcast up to his apt. without his permission. Along with a few newer senior units up in the Brookhaven area, this is one of the best in the Atlanta area. Highly recommend!
