This is a plus for those of us who don't just splash around, but go for the workout. Every weekday morning from 6:50-10:30, the lap pool is open for the perfect summer workout. Pull buoys and kickboards aplenty at no extra charge! Also, a permanent timing clock. There's a 1000 lap club, so you get public recognition once you've completed the feat. After 10:30, all the pools are open - the lap pool, the kiddie pool, and the main pool, which has plenty of space, including a water basketball hoop and 2 3M springboards. There's lot of grassy space and trees nearby, providing a respite from the hot concrete and blocking some of the sun. There are also tons of sun shades. Also, there's a nearby playground, and lots of picnic table space. Best of all, there is an annual water ballet. Talk about community building! Luckily, my BF's family is very generous with their passes, so I haven't had to pay for a guest pass, which I think is around $7.50. If you're in the area, find someone who's a member so you can join them for some R&R in the cool water. It's easier than finding a house with AC!

I like that the big pool is usually a little cooler than the adult pool, I guess due to its size. Only draw back - if a kid poops in the baby pool, then it means the big pool is also closed while the pool people shock it. I reckon if there were one thing about the pool I'd change - I'd probably want it to have a little bit of a cooler vibe. Maybe some music or some such? But otherwise, it's great.

This pool, completely renovated in 2004, is large enough to have fun but small enough to be able to spot your young 'un from anywhere you sit. The entrance is through Vernon Young Park, another gem with a full kids' playground, basketball & tennis courts, a large playing field for baseball, flag football, soccer, etc. and the Ardmore Avenue Community Center. So, if the young un's don't want to swim, they can play too. When you enter, you pass through either the male or female changing areas complete with lockers and showers as well as restrooms. There are two pools - a good sized toddler pool with a zero step entry, water spouts and a water mushroom play feature. Maximum depth 18 inches. Then there is the 'larger' pool, also with a zero step entry, a water slide and maximum depth of 5'. Separating the two are a low fence, some bushes, and a shade awning over some grass. Surrounding both pools are picnic tables with umbrellas. Water toys are permitted in the baby pool area. The pools are staffed with lifeguards who change station regularly to stay alert. There is no snack bar, which is in some ways a blessing (no $9 fries!). Many of the local restaurants deliver 'to the pool', and if you want you can easily leave and walk to many of them too. Parking? Well, that's the one star off. It's street only, and it can be a bit of a challenge. I don't want them to make a parking lot by any means, but it does take away from the experience. Also, you bring your own chairs, blankets, etc, which can make for a haul. Maybe the Township will get wise and start a business to rent chairs on site (hint, hint). Now, the thing that makes this really GREAT. The cost to join? For a family of four, residents of the Township, about $70. For the season. Really. Over 65 year old residents are free. Yes, really. That is not a typo. It's under a hundred dollars. A year. Well, a summer. The pool is open Memorial Day - Labor Day. (Residents of Narberth Borough can join but at a higher rate as can a limited number of residents in Ardmore, Haverford Township, again at a higher rate.) Like I said, one of the Great Deals of the Century. Here in wonderful Ardmore.

Wish the gym would suspend or revoke their memberships to those who can't figure out where the dumbbell they were using goes or those who just completely say F it and don't re-rack their weights. They have no bands. Their clips for the cable attachments seem to either break or get stolen just about every day. They have 3 basketballs. The pool has been closed for a while and I've never seen one person working on fixing it. Working here must suck. Over the past two years I haven't seen one person work here longer than 6 months besides maybe a salesman or two. I have no idea who's in charge of this place. The trainers don't last here for more than a month either. If I didn't live walking distance away I'd go to a different gym.

LA Fitness Is a Total Scam - Avoid at All Costs!…read more If I could give zero stars, I would. Over a year ago, I signed up for an LA Fitness membership and personal training under the impression that I could cancel anytime. What they conveniently failed to mention was that the personal training contract was locked in for a full year at $200 a month--no way out. Fine. I waited out the year, canceled the trainer, and thought I was done. But guess what? They kept charging me $200 a month anyway! And when I tried to resolve it? No customer service to call, no easy way to cancel--they force you to physically go into a location just to stop payments. So, I went in person to cancel. The employee gave me a phone number for a manager who could supposedly handle it. Turns out, the number was disconnected. So I went back--again--only to be told the manager wasn't there and I'd have to go to a different location. I drove 20 minutes to another location, asked for the manager, and was then told only the personal training manager could cancel it. That manager no longer even works there. The employee had no idea what to do, and I was left completely stuck--still being charged $200 a month for a service I don't use and can't seem to cancel. At this point, LA Fitness is literally just stealing my money, and I have no idea what to do next. I think I'm going to contact a lawyer. DO NOT sign up for anything at this gym unless you want to be scammed.
