The biscoff flavored one knocked my socks off. Just heavenly and rich. The salty pistachios was honestly way too much and salty to almost unbearable. But the biscoff was so life changing I'll let that slide.
This place is apparently vibing on TikTok (or so my daughter tells me!) so we had to stop here. Plus we were in the mood for gelato on a warm day. Cremeria La Vecchia Stalla is a nice geletaria tucked away on a busy street near the University in Bologna. It is very picturesque and popular and they have quite a selection of gelato flavors. You can get your gelato in a paper cup or edible cone with multiple options. There is an option to order electronically at a kiosk or at the counter. I ended up having a medium sized edible bowl with 3 flavors (pistachio, chocolate and coffee) while my companions each had the small version with two flavor choices. This place is great for a sweet treat on a warm Bologna afternoon or evening. I recommend stopping here when in the city.
Delicious and quick! Got an amaretto flavored gelato with caramel bits in it. One of the best flavors outside of the classic stracciatella flavor we had at another gelato shop. Note there is no where to sit inside nor outside. We walked a bit down the street and found seating to enjoy the gelato.
The gelato & sorbet at this location were outstanding! They had the typical flavors, fruit options and then some odd combinations so we tried a little of all of them. The chocolate chip/stracciatella was the best I've ever tasted. So creamy and chocolate quality was excellent. The zabaglione was also amazing if ur an eggnog fan, although it seemed to have bits of coconut in it. The lemon and other fruit options we bought were also very fresh & tasty. All come with a cute branded waffle cone piece on top. One of r favorite gelato spots while in Italy! There was a very long line, but probably not more than 15 min wait. Once u step into the store there r 2 kiosks where u order & pay. A few feet after that u then give ur ticket to the workers behind the counter and ur order is ready immediately. If u prefer a non-gelato dessert, dessert, there r several in the case, which all look very pretty. Highly recommend this spot. It's just down the alley from a busy square.
We went to this place after receiving a recommendation from a local family. It was such a hit that we went back every night of our three day stay in Bologna. My favorite flavors were the cheesecake and dark chocolate cherry. I also tried their hot chocolate- so, so good! It was extremely rich, but I like a deep chocolate flavor, so this was not an issue for me. The location is also perfectly situated near the center of Bologna. Give it a try!
This place gets pretty busy! I love the places that give you the edible cone with the little biscuit. They had a ton of flavors to choose from and their gelato was very light and creamy as it should be! You can tell it's authentic because the gelato isn't out on display or whipped up.
I had a taste of Cremeria La Vecchia Stalla gelati this evening. It is the second gelateria I've tried so far in Bologna. Honestly for my taste, I thought the specialty flavors I chose were okay but not great. The gelati was very soft. Think soft serve rather than hard gelati. I had the Carezza Africana, the Cuiri cuiri al Pistacchio and a creamy flavor with biscotti bits. I don't think my trio of flavors were good. Definitely texture-wise, I didn't like it. I should have chosen from the classic flavors list. On a positive note: Service was excellent. Location is very nice. It's just a stones throw from St. Stefano church. Maybe it just wasn't my day foe gelati...oh well.
(Yet another ) brilliant gelateria near Santo Stefano. So yeah, finding an excellent gelateria is not really all that spectacular an achievement in Bologna - after all, this is where most of the Gelato equipment for Italy comes from. Then again, excellence *should* be celebrated, and this, my friends, is an excellent gelateria. The flavors are sound, the textures are Just Right, and there is a ton of happiness in each lick. So, go forth and enjoy!
Portions are great! You get 2 scoops for about €3 and they give you a good amount of ice cream! I got the dark chocolate with cherry ice-cream. I would get this again, 100% recommend this place!
This place is super busy, small and expect long lines that go by rather quick. A kiosk lets you place your order, then the counter staff gives you your gelato as ordered. The gelato was delicious and creamy and served with a waffle cookie that stays crisp. read more
Bologna is the epicurean capital of Italy. So when I've had all the required dishes, tagliatelle ala bolognese, Tortellini in broth and Lasagne, it was time to hunt down the most delicious Gelato in town. All my sources pointed me to Cremeria La Vecchia Stalla, or in english, The Old Stall. I always start with Pistacchio. This is the standard by which I judge all gelato. I had the Pistacchio di Bronte and underneath the Cioccolata Extra Fondente. The flavor jumps out and it has little bits of granular pistacchio in it creamy and delicious in its own right, one of the best I have had in all of Italy. But the dark chocolate that came later was intense. Rich and a perfect compliment to the pistachio. A great combination. Staff were excellent and very friendly. If in Bologna this is a must for Gelato, you will not be dissapointed read more

Located off of a busy side street, this Gelateria serves up tasty flavors ranging from pesto de pistachio to sweet cream made with Buffalo milk. Well worth the stop, even on a fall day. read more
