The sites are well kept and clean. It's big enough that you can get in a good walk around or pedal around on your bikes. The surrounding area is not bike friendly though. Pretty much no bike lanes and it's a bit busy on the streets. You can't really hear it from the campground though, except for on the north side. It looks like the kind of place that gets incredibly busy on weekends. There's a large sports field, three playgrounds for kids, horseshoe, etc. I don't think this would be the best campground on a weekend or if it just gets busy in general. Most of the spots are not well covered from your neighbors. Where we stayed, of someone had camped in the spot next to us, we would have been right on top of each other's space. But, if you come on a less busy day, it's great. Also, it's close enough to civilization that you will still have internet and cell service if you need it.

There is a day-use parking fee of $3, which is very reasonable, and somehow there always seems to be enough of it to accommodate the crowds. In fact, its only real detractions are human-caused: litter and trash (frequently overflowing), mucky restrooms, and just the crowds themselves. Remove the people, and you have a perfect, five-star park! If you're lucky enough to visit on a day when the other people aren't acting like animals, you're in for a treat! Still, even when other humans conspire to ruin it, it's hard not to have a great time wading in the water here on an unbearably hot summer day. Our baby sons love it, and I am happy to be able to share this location with them, that I have similarly enjoyed for most of my life. It's one of the best family-friendly parks and ponds in the entire county (with Lewisville being one of its only true competitors).

Here, the river splits around a small island that is rumored to be a good spot for salmon fishing in the springtime. The water runs slower on the park side than in many places along the Lewis river, making it a nice place for swimming if you can snag a piece of the pebbly beach. The great news is that the park is rarely busy and we often find an area we can swim and play for the day. Beyond picnic tables, grills, and grassy areas, there is also a public toilet, and garbage cans throughout. Dogs are permitted on leash, but there is no doggy clean up station - you'll need to bring your own bags. If you're a mosquito magnet like me, you'll want to bring your bug spray. They're everywhere and they are thirsty! Logs have been intentionally placed along the riverbank to create areas for fish. We've seen minnows, snails, and caddisfly larva in the shallows. Fish jumping and even river otter can be seen in the deeper channel in the middle of the river. The park is well maintained and off the beaten path. There are two roads you can turn off of Cedar Creek to get to Haapa . They are Etna rd and Roser rd. Turning right onto Etna is an extremely sharp turn. A minivan can't do it without entering oncoming traffic after the turn. Conversely, taking a left onto Roser is extremely sharp. If you're hauling a boat, plan to enter from one direction and leave from the other for smoother traveling.

The trail goes right over the train tracks via a beautiful (protected bridge). You will be immediately greeted by the fragrant aroma of blackberries. To the left will be peek-boo views of the lake. Take the trail down and around to the lake past other informational and historic facts. There is a TON of fruit growing and the vast group of plum trees looks like it will be very ripe very soon. There are tons of plants, trees, and birds about. The trail can be narrow and is of various terrain at various parts. There is some shade but it is spotty. All in all a great spot. Hello Everyone!…read more Please know that the park is NOT a campground. It is for DAY USE ONLY. Several signs are throughout the park that note that fact. Before Bratton Canyon Park was handed over to Clark County by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources in 2011, it was operated as a campground. However, there are no foreseeable plans to turn it back into one. A park host is always on site to answer any questions about this or if you have other concerns. Always happy to help! Security and safety is taken very seriously at this park. All suspicious behavior is reported to authorities and law enforcement does respond. THERE ARE NO FIRES OF ANY KIND ALLOWED. This includes but not limited to campfires, propane or charcoal barbecues, fire pits, and anything else with an open flame. This is stricter than County regulations and for the safety of visitors, park host, and surrounding residences. Please help keep our park safe by following the rules. Anyone breaking those rules will be told to leave the park. The remaining camping barbecues that were left in the park are not maintained or cleaned for public use. Running water in the park is at the park host site only and it is not potable. Electricity is only at the park host site and the only location in the park with lights. Due to the dense tree coverage and for safety of park visitors, the park hours for opening and closing do vary, based on light and weather conditions. Opening is generally 8:00am year round and closing is approximately 15 to 20 minutes before sunset based on the season. This has been as early as 4pm in winter to as late as 9pm in summer. The park has one vault toilet that is open and it is next to the parking area and closest to the picnic pavilion, horseshoe pits, and (one netted basket) basketball court. Poles are on either side of the court for a volleyball or tennis net, but you need to bring your own. There are other buildings within the park, but they are locked for safety reasons. Trash bins are located in the parking area, next to the vault toilet, and at the picnic pavilion. Please do your part to keep the park clean. Contrary to other website pictures, this park does not have a lake or river running through it. A small seasonal creek exists on the west side but is not accessible. Several dirt trails wind through the 80 acre forest park and provide visitors with hiking and horseback riding opportunities. Horse trailer parking is available, so bring your horse. A gravel and dirt road that circles through the park is good for bicycle riding. A great place to find peace and quiet among the birds. ABSOLUTELY NO ATV OR OFF ROAD/MOTOCROSS MOTORCYCLES! They are NOT ALLOWED! This is posted and violators will risk a very hefty fine per county regulations. Do not climb the trees or disturb the natural beauty of the plant and animal life in the park. UPDATE: This is a response to a review regarding horses in the park. They are allowed and there is no sign saying otherwise. Please keep in mind that this is a natural park. The road in from the main road is gravel and dirt. The trails are dirt. This is Western Washington and rain mixed with dirt will make mud. The horses and their owners are a small fraction of the visitors to the park and not the only ones using the trails. Visitors have included dogs and even pack goats. Please dress accordingly for your hiking comfort and needs. This is also a response to a previous review about someone not feeling comfortable walking their dog in the park. The person incorrectly assumed that the loose dogs were the ones belonging to the park host. They never allow their dogs to run loose, they are never outside by themselves, and they are always under control. If anyone ever has a safety issue or sees other dogs off their leashes in the park, please contact the park host. They want everyone to have a great experience in the park. Thank you!

A very unique and beautiful area to visit!…read more The trailhead has a nice parking area, with bathrooms. The trail to the winding, aqua blue stream is wide and well maintained. You can view the main attraction from trails on both sides, as well as looking down from the bridge. We took the trails on both sides of the water. The trail across the bridge is much easier to traverse, and winds down to the (closed down) suspension bridge. The opposite side leads down beyond the suspension to the waters edge, but even to get down to that point isn't for the faint of heart. It includes a narrow, steep downhill trek...including a section over running water (with a wire handrail for support). Once you arrive at the water at the bottom you can view the suspension bridge above, and if you dare, the waterfall below. We did attempt to continue on a little ways down the trail from there, but as reviews describe, the next section is even steeper with a very loose and dangerous footing. I got vertigo trying to look over the edge at the falls right before that section, so continuing on was a huge no. I'm sure that many people without height woes have no issues moving on, but if you're like me, the trail ends there. This area is stunning. The waters and canyon are a site that pictures simply cannot do justice. Highly recommend!!

We opted for the longer section of the cave, and it was a challenge! My young kids did well, but were asking where the end was after a while. They were not happy with the hike back to the car afterwards, although they did enjoy going. Make sure to reserve your spot online, I'm guessing it fills up on the weekends, we went on a weekday morning and it was getting more busy as we were leaving. If you turn right out of the parking lot and drive about a half mile or so there is a good viewpoint of Mt. Saint Helens. There isn't much around so be prepared with snacks or a picnic lunch. No food is allowed in the cave though.

This trail is not difficult, but the walk consists of very uneven surfaces, and because touching the walls is prohibited, it really works your balance. Headlamps or flashlights are a must, as are sturdy shoes, pants and a jacket - it's very cold in the cave. I had a severe allergic reaction to the cave, so next time I'll take allergy medicine. I definitely recommend taking your time to look around at the incredible cave ceilings and walls (But Don't Touch). Lastly, our Northwest Forest Pass covered all cost, but I've read reservations may be needed during busier times. So definitely due your homework and be prepared. Enjoy!!
