    Moulton Park trails

Gorgeous! What's not to love? Nice trails, beautiful falls, stunning trees, and crystal clear waters. We stopped by Saturday to check out Moulton and Yacolt Falls, having seen nearby Lucia Falls previously. There's a small parking area right at Moulton Falls, as well as an overflow lot just past the bridge and a pull-off that will accommodate more just above Yacolt Falls. It doesn't matter where you park, as lovely trails connect all lots and falls. On this visit we checked out the 2 falls as well as the bridge using these connector trails. As lovely as the grounds and water were we definitely want to return and explore further. The river draws you in from all directions, and both of the falls are flowing heavily right now providing their own unique spectacles. The drive in is beautiful and the park is too...fabulous spot to spend an afternoon!

We picked Moulton Falls as a destination for a short drive from Portland on an unexpectedly nice day in February. It turned out to be a terrific spot for some easy walking and excellent sightseeing. The main lot was full, so we wound up in the overflow parking lot near the east end of the park. I'd recommend taking a picture of the trail system, not because it's a vast wilderness, but because the distances seemed much smaller than we expected, and had a few "I guess we're at this point" moments when we thought a given segment of trail might be much longer. The park people have done a wonderful job providing access to scenic riverbanks, and the most potentially dangerous sites all seem to have stone stairways with handrails, which are very much appreciated because the ground near rushing water sections of the Lewis River tend to be wet and potentially slippery. All in all, trails are well maintained, and Moulton Falls Park makes for an easy walk with scenery that makes a visit worthwhile.

It's a beautiful little park along the East Fork Lewis river with clean modern restrooms and several picnic tables with the ability to BBQ. There are also spots along the banks to sit with chairs or throw a towel down. The trails around the near surrounding area are pretty easy and not long so if a hike workout is what you are looking for it won't be here.

Beautiful! I would recommend this park for families with older children who are able to swim. My grandchildren (5&7) required very close supervision. The ways down to the river are difficult. As an elder, I very much wished I had a trekking poles with me. The river is gorgeous! The falls are not tall but the water is swift. No real problem for people who swim well. The bottom is treacherous because there is no sand and the rocks are very slippery. Thus, getting in and out can be tricky. All in all, we had a wonderful visit to this lovely party of the river.

Moderate (mostly easy) 7.5 mile loop. It was kinda gloomy out, but we still enjoyed being out in the gorgeous PNW. This loop can front load the gain with a short uphill climb at the beginning, or spread out that love by taking the other direction and having a long slight uphill with a steep decline instead. I opted for the first choice. I like climbs. After that initial exertion it was a stroll down a pleasant lane for the most part. No scary drop offs, so parents can feel less anxious about their littles. Definitely can roll a stroller or an outdoor wheelchair on most of it. You'd have to make it an out and back and skip that steep part. Get there early for parking. If you can't park at Moulton, try the larger lot at Lucia. I think in the summer this probably a amazing place to swim, and I just want to say to the people who have homes along the shore, sorry. I bet they hate that season. We live in a beautiful place, friends. Enjoy!

This is down river from the main swimming area. Lots of people like to jump off the rocks here.

Very fun place to explore with clean water. I like that there's an open swimming hole on the bridge side. The water was colder than expected but I still got in. The only downside is it can be crowded and the parking is very limited. We had to walk from the car about 5 minutes along the guard rail which can be a little scary if you have younger children. I'd definitely go back!!!

I believe my backyard in the PNW area is the most beautiful in America when you love big trees and waterfalls. Moulton Falls is no exception. Literally minutes from where you park, on both sides of the road, there are cascading short but wide waterfall areas to sit and enjoy the swirling waters. The sound is overwhelming yet soothing and it's become my 2020 coping addiction, to go hike each weekend. Fortunately two parking areas have been created, because this is such a popular spot due to its non-challenging access. And the easily accessible waterfalls are located on both sides of the road near the parking areas. One is Moulton, the other is Yacolt. Yacolt also has access to the cool traintracks (which you are not allowed to walk on) with a scary tunnel a bit further down. The Yacolt waterfall is more overwhelming due to your higher viewing point. If you want to impress visitors within an hour and a half with a max 2-mile hike, this is your spot.

All I have to say is I didn't want to leave. This place is absolutely amazing. Water is cold and could see to the rocks at the bottom.

Along a long and winding country road deep in the scenic forest of SW Washington lies the picturesque 387-acre Moulton Falls Regional Park. Hikers, photographers, and nature lovers come to discover a charming 3-story tall wooden arch footbridge, towering trees, and flowing waterfalls at the confluence of the East Fork of the Lewis River and Big Tree Creek. I just come to immerse myself in nature and go with the flow as the stress of life falls away. The parking lot has only about 40 parking spaces so I often drive just a little further up the road to a dirt parking lot next to Big Tree Creek and then take the well-maintained trail back to the other falls. * Free 365 days a year * Connected to nearby Lucia Falls by an easy 2.5 mile trail * Bell Mountain Trail is a longer 7.5 mile hike * Picnic tables and basic restrooms are near the parking * No alcohol allowed * Dogs must be leashed at all times * Swimming is allowed, but can be dangerous in some water * Diving off the bridge is forbidden * Chelatchie Prairie Railroad train passes through the park Whether you come to exercise or simply bask in the beauty of nature along the 70-mile Northern Clark County Scenic Drive, Moulton Falls Regional Park is a picturesque natural playground just 45 minutes north of Portland, Oregon.

We are so blessed to be living near this beautiful park! The hike is amazing and the views are even better. It was a great family activity. We loved taking photos and stopping to admire many views. It would be pretty all year round and have such different feels to each season.

The hiking path here is great! A nice, easy, mostly level pathway that takes you along the River. Once you get to the picturesque bridge, you can stop for a picnic lunch. There is a path to an additional waterfall across the street but the bridge over that is closed during winter months.

    Near the main parking lot.

This is a great place to bring the kids if you live in the Vancouver area. We brought our boys here and they had an absolute blast in the water. We went during the week, I suspect it would be very busy on the weekends. This was a good time.

A very unique and beautiful area to visit!…read more The trailhead has a nice parking area, with bathrooms. The trail to the winding, aqua blue stream is wide and well maintained. You can view the main attraction from trails on both sides, as well as looking down from the bridge. We took the trails on both sides of the water. The trail across the bridge is much easier to traverse, and winds down to the (closed down) suspension bridge. The opposite side leads down beyond the suspension to the waters edge, but even to get down to that point isn't for the faint of heart. It includes a narrow, steep downhill trek...including a section over running water (with a wire handrail for support). Once you arrive at the water at the bottom you can view the suspension bridge above, and if you dare, the waterfall below. We did attempt to continue on a little ways down the trail from there, but as reviews describe, the next section is even steeper with a very loose and dangerous footing. I got vertigo trying to look over the edge at the falls right before that section, so continuing on was a huge no. I'm sure that many people without height woes have no issues moving on, but if you're like me, the trail ends there. This area is stunning. The waters and canyon are a site that pictures simply cannot do justice. Highly recommend!!

So definitely bring a bathing suit, towel and a pair of water shoes so the rocks won't hurt your feet while entering the pool beneath Beaver Falls. The water is cold but once you jump in and get comfortable, it's a terrific setting. There's also a long rope where you can swing across and splash down below.
