In a new city, in the midst of Midwest Kentucky. Remember…read morethis is Derby County and horses, right? They have defined culture deep within the roots of the city . A life size statue of David. Not thee David, and its gold. Wow!! We are in Kentucky too. This statue was procured by the local hotel, art gallery and eatery of 21c Museum Hotel . It's stands outside a large glimmer that looks out all over the city. It's very close to the water front area. Now the original David is made of marble, this statue although gold toned is made of foam and fiberglass. It's sprayed with a brilliant gold finish. It's well maintained with the rainy weather that occurs here. Come and see what downtown looks like with statues of David . Different and beautiful is nice. What's in your backyard of your city ? You might just be surprised!

Whoa, whaaah? Hmmm [Louisville KY]…read more Well, to my surprise I guess I only had to go as far as Louisville in Kentucky to see the Statue of David and I didn't have to be around any tourists! Actually, at 30-feet tall, Louisville's David is almost twice the size of Michelangelo's original masterpiece in Florence Italy and it's all in gold... well, it's actually spray-painted with a gaudy gold paint... and made of styrofoam or fiberglass (not sure) but certainly not Italian marble LoL! The giant golden statue stands outside in front of 21C Museum Hotel on Main Street (who, btw, also owns the statue) which probably turns heads in downtown Louisville... the statue was one of many kinds of street art and statues on Main Street. The Bourbon District is a gathering space for locals and visitors and is a walkable urban experience for anyone looking for a taste of Kentucky. The Barrel is meant to be walked through (which I did)... a worthy iG insta photo-op in Downtown Louisville. Barrel on Main has five hoops with rings made of a type of corrosion resistant steel and black powder coated aluminum, the giant art installation is almost nine times the size of a typical 53-gallon barrel and was inspired by those of actual oak barrels used to store and age Kentucky's local spirits. Next to the Barrel is an interpretive sign with a little history of why this Whiskey Row was called the Bourbon District. Parking may be challenging to find in this area. Lincoln Memorial at Waterfront Park [Louisville KY]…read more The memorial, dedicated to the country's famous 16th president, is located at the Waterfront Park at a city park by the Ohio River. It has sculptural parts including a larger-than-life statue of Abraham Lincoln, four artistic expression sculptures, and Abraham Lincoln's own words engraved with four famous quotes on a stone amphitheater to express his lifelong ties to Kentucky. The memorial is a simple moving tribute very nicely done. It is a free attraction set against the scenic Ohio River. Created by sculptor Ed Hamilton, the memorial was completed in 2009. The memorial is comprised of a 12 foot tall sculpture of Abraham Lincoln sitting on a rock beside his top hat, in front of steps engraved with various quotations from Lincoln's speeches: "I, too, am a Kentuckian"; "A house divided against itself cannot stand"; "With malice toward none, with charity for all"; and "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master." There are also four bas-relief panels depicting various periods in Lincoln's life, from childhood to slavery and emancipation. An interesting and aesthetic memorial. Frazier Kentucky History Museum is definitely a must visit to learn all about Kentucky History. I…read morewish this place had been around when I was a school kid. The exhibits are very informative on the history. I believe this was formerly a Historical Arms Museum with old military guns. I have only been here with a friend when the Summer Beer Fest at Frazier takes place. Part of the VIP package. We definitely walk around and look at the different exhibits as well as getting special pours from the fest for VIPs . This is known as the starting point for Kentucky Bourbon trail. They don't just do Kentucky History they also do Louisville History as well. You can definitely learn just about anything Kentucky here. Although we have only been during the beer festival, we have yet to be here when it is actually open. I think a guided tour would be awesome. This is definitely worth a visit, for fun, learning, field trips. They do have other events as well just check out their Facebook page.

What an amazing stop on our walking tour of Louisville, KY. A 20 minute walk from [The Galt Hotel]…read morewhich was broken up with a great breakfast at 'proof.' It's nice that they have a senior rate here at the museum which saved us $2.00 per person. You walk into a very large space and I honestly did not know where to begin so we took advantage of the docent showing and explaining a few of the items. When you go through these museums you just don't realize just how much history there is to one area. We also took advantage of the free movie in the Brown-Forman Theatre. It was truly amazing to see just how many familiar faces come from Kentucky. The "miniature collection" is pretty amazing and a Kentucky museum would not be complete without a section on Abe Lincoln. The Bourbon Hall is pretty amazing and the hidden speakeasy was fun to explore. Some special exhibits were opening the day we arrived and it's just fun exploring all the different items. It was also interesting to hear how they host some pretty big events here. While I was exploring, I met a group getting ready to have a wedding here. Great gift shop with plenty to choose from, of course. This place is definitely on my "must visit" list if you're here in Louisville. KUDOs to the team here at The Frazier Kentucky History Museum

She was the confounded of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. Overall very well done statue and sculpture and a truly deserving honor for a trailblazing woman of the catholic chri h faith making the cathedral an ideal spot to host the statue.

The statue was presented to the city by two public-spirited businessmen of the city in November 1901 and was unveiled at ceremonies that included addresses by former Governor of Kentucky William O'Connell Bradley and Mayor Charles P. Weaver. Louisville is the county seat of Jefferson County. The statue is bronze and represents Jefferson presenting the Declaration of Independence to the First Congress. He stands atop a bronze pedestal, which represents the famous Liberty Bell https://www.yelp.com/biz/liberty-bell-center-philadelphia-2. On the outside of the bell are four modeled figures that represent Liberty, Equality, Justice and the Brotherhood of Man. Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was third President of the United States (from 1901 to 1809), second Vice President of the United States (1797-1801) and, amongst other roles, served as the second Governor of Virginia (1779-1781). Back in those days, the Commonwealth of Virginia extended much further west and included the areas that are now West Virginia and Kentucky. After retiring from public office, Jefferson founded the University of Virginia. And while some modern scholars have been critical of Jefferson's involvement with slavery, he is consistently rated highly amongst other US Presidents. The whole statue is 25 feet high.
