I returned to the game last year (2024) after a 15-year layoff. Purchased some used clubs to start my journey back. I decided to go for a fitting on a recommendation from a co-worker. I found Crims Golf online and gave Leland a call. He spent at least an hour more, like an hour and a half, analyzing my swing, using his swing meter, and taking into account my age, which is 60+. Leyland fit me with an affordable set of new clubs with the correct degree of loft for my height and swing. I couldn't be happier with the set of irons I received. Leland has gotten to know my game over several rounds enjoyed at Three Pines. He mentioned that he thought he had a set of gently used Ping clubs that could really help my game. After trying them out, I purchased them (Ping i230 with Steel Fiber shafts) and it has brought a level of consistency to my scoring over the past few weeks that I have not had before. Leland is very knowledgeable about what golfers need to help them get the most out of their game. In my case, my swing is a bit homemade, but pretty consistent. Leland pointed me towards a set of irons that I could count on getting consistent results from, especially with 3/4 approach shots into greens. My shots are coming in on a mid-high trajectory and stopping when they hit the green. When I need to hit a low spinner, I get the appropriate hop and stop action on the ball. Look forward to working with Leland on swing improvements in the future. He listens to feedback and is not trying to force his students into radical change, working with what they have. read more

I moved to SC from CT some 8 years ago. I have not played golf in over 10 years, and my clubs were over 20 years old. I called Leland and he suggested I take 3 lessons with him which I did. he helped me with some of the basics. and after seeing how I struck the ball he was able to recommend the perfect clubs. I was looking to buy new clubs but I first needed help with my golf swing. A golf buddy recommended Leland because I wanted someone good with age 50+ and 60+ like me. He has been instructing and helping golfers for a long time and I could tell her knew what he was doing. I took 3 lessons and Leland quickly identified my problem and helped me get my game back on track with a few simple corrections. I could tell that he really wanted me to be happy with my game and I did buy my new Ping clubs from him. I gave him 5 stars because I had to lay off golf for 1.5 months just after my last lesson(due to a short illness) so he went back out to the range with me make sure I remembered what he had taught me. This a small driving range in Taylors,S.C that is right off the main road. We went to hit a bucket of balls each and there were only maybe 5 of us out there. The guy running the place came out and was giving some pointers to the guy next to me which I thought was pretty nice. I was hoping he'd come over and help me to, but another customer drove up. There is a large pro shop type area inside the large building. Lots of clubs.... not sure if they were to buy or to rent. It's quite reasonable .For a Medium size bucket of balls it was $7.50. Sales promises missed the fairways completely. My wife and daughter went shopping for me for Christmas. They found an electric walking cart they thought I would like because I love to play golf yet I prefer to walk versus riding. I went in to the shop and spoke with the store owner and with his promise that the cart could be returned, no strings attached, we struck a deal and my wife purchased the cart for me. The owner did mention that the battery might only charge enough for 9 holes so I might have to buy a new battery. Again, ok with me, and I accepted his statement. Well, it's been a long winter and I didn't play much golf. When I did play, I used a groupon or the 1st Tee Passport and both options included a riding cart so there was no need to "try out" my electric cart. I played Cherokee Valley last week and decided that I would join that golf course. Well, a Cherokee Valley membership includes a riding cart so my need for the electric walking cart was eliminated. So, based on the promise I had from the owner of Crims Golf Shop, I put the electric golf cart in my car and proceeded to his store. I walked in the store and told him I was returning the cart and he said and I quote "we have a problem, I paid the owner the money for the cart and he moved out of the area". So, the promise he made to me that I could return the cart, no questions asked, just went out of bounds. I guess I might call his sales skills pretty good because he said everything I wanted to hear so I would make the purchase but his promises to me once he "accepted the cash" were empty. Yes, we purchased the cart in late December but, he said I could return it if I wasn't happy with it and didn't want it and he reneged on his word. So disappointed in this owner. He certainly won't be seeing me open my wallet in his store any time soon. Bad experience. read more
