The boat was clean and seemed taken care of. Sure it could use an update on paint and so forth, but at no time was I concerned about its seaworthiness or the skills of the person in charge of its transit. Both decks have chairs outside that you can move to your preference of shade, wind, and view. People brought their own bicycles to and from the island. Th crew let them secure the bikes to the rails in the back area. We enjoyed our trip over and back and would definitely use this company again.

Our boat was a smooth quiet ride making it relaxing and entertaining. He limits the group to 6 and it was great asking questions and hearing all about the ponies and the area. I sat in the sun by choice the rest of the group chose shade. I think on a windy day or choppy water any other boat would be miserable We went close to high tide and Captain Henry maneuvered his boat back in the grassland inlets to get closer to the ponies and eagle We watched a pod of dolphins play around the boat and followed them from a far for a bit. I hope we can visit again and we'd choose Saltwater Pony Tours again

Then I found Pocomoke River Cruises and Captain Jerry. My relative is still talking about it with huge enthusiasm. So it was only logical that when I had to find something 4 different personalities (my 3 sisters and I) could do together and enjoy, that I would go back to Captain Jerry at Pokomoke. He makes the planning so easy, doing a great job of trying to meet our schedule. We bring some finger food and a bottle of wine and sit back while he shares his great knowledge, experiences, and insight of the area with us. Best Happy Hour I've ever had. My sisters think I am their hero! They all three agree it was the most enjoyable experience they have had in quite some time. Not because it was exciting, but because it was calming. The quiet beauty and peace of the area sets into your body and soul nearly immediately if you simply open your eyes and breathe. No houses or docks littering the river shoreline, no other boats, no voices, no other people. But there are turtles and large birds (Bald Eagles if you're lucky) and awesome trees and and fresh air and lily pads and flowers and calm water. All enjoyed in comfortable seating while floating quietly on the clean and lovely river. Pokomoke River Cruises is the best kept secret on the shore. I couldn't recommend it any more highly.

Ours tour was chock-a-block full of personal stories from our husband and wife Captain and tour guide duo extraordinaire. Our eye candy consisted of a sting ray enjoying a clam breakfast, flopping around in the shallow waters like a happy kid in the candy shop. It was topped by a crane slurping down an eel then a bald eagle. We spied a few more ponies then made our way around the other side of the island for a full grand tour. I've traveled the Eastern Shore and the Western Shore and I've now finally made it to the in between of Smith Island, in part thanks to Smith Island Cruises. My husband and I took the ferry from Crisfield to the village of Ewell on Smith Island. The ferry is a two-deck passenger ferry that probably holds around 100 people but on Labor Day weekend I think there were only about 30 aboard. Passengers are welcome to bring their luggage aboard including coolers. You can bring bikes too but there is a charge. Smith Island is dry so if you're hoping to have a drinky drink then discretely bring your own. The ferry trip is advertised to take about 45 minutes but depending on conditions, such as wind, it could take longer. During the cruise the captain pointed out some landmarks and provided a little history which was a nice touch. Overall the trip was scenic and I'm glad I had my birdnoculars in tow. The ferry is no frills. It offers a safe passage, friendly service and two bathrooms. Online ordering of tickets is easy. You can also reserve a golf cart and Smith Island cake at the same time. If departing from Crisfield then you pick up your tickets (wristband) at the Captain Tyler Motel before hand and then they'll direct you to free parking near the B pier at the marina. It was a very simple and organized process. Once on Smith Island we got a delicious lunch at the Bayside Inn and then went to the nearby Cultural center where we enjoyed the exhibits and got a walking tour map for the town. For our short 2.5 hours on the town we found waking, versus gold cart riding or biking, to be adequate. Shout out to the employee on board in the first mate/hospitality role - he was friendly and welcoming.

We Ebenezer had a little quiz on the way back on facts that we were given on the way over. Very entertaining . The mate was really good too... he passed out sliced watermelon on the way back. We were kind of hot and a little tired and that was so nice! The boat does have bathrooms. The online tickets are very easy.
