I was really excited when I found out a Nando's was coming to Southend. Not because I'm a huge…read morelover of piri piri chicken, but because it meant that there would be increased dining options on Southend's high street and we would be able to have something other than burgers or pizza if we fancied lunch out. Whenever a restaurant opens I expect some teething problems, but Nando's problems have persisted for almost one year and I expect they won't get any better. We have tried phoning our orders in advance for my husband to collect and every time he's returned home to find that we are missing several dishes or have some wrong items. Now, some would ask why he didn't check the order after the first or second time the restaurant made the same mistake . We have tried dining in at weekend lunch-times, found the service to be pitifully slow and quite often receive the wrong orders. Is it just us?! I don't understand why they should have such problems - they only serve chicken! All of the staff are really friendly, stopping to make a fuss of the kids and making sure that they've got crayons and colouring paper when our meals seem to be taking a long time, but friendly staff is not a good enough reason to give this place any more chances.

Good beef has been used, and the patties are fat and well seasoned. Each time I've dined here, the burgers have maintained their standard and flavour. You can have a classic burger, but their San Fransisco option is equally delicious. The standard fries eaten on my most recent visit weren't up to the previous standard, although my companions adored the curly fries. The milkshakes are out of this world, and come in all sorts of flavours while worth the wait, I did feel the service was a bit slow when it came to the shakes. We didn't get them until we'd started eating. Also, I felt the young waitresses could have done a better job of throwing themselves into the spirit of the place. They were quite lacklustre in their bearing, and a bit sloppy our table was not laid until we were served our food, and there were no condiments until requested, despite every other table already having them. I'd have given an extra star if the girls were as good at service as the main man (I believe him to be the owner). He was fun, cheeky and clearly loving his job.

The staff are mostly students due to it's location, but they have all been very friendly in my experience, particularly compared to other mcdonalds that I have visited in the past. It is a good mcdonalds to take children, with a lovely children's area with balloons and activities.
