Degollado (956) 649-2876. This pet hospital in Nuevo Laredo is EXCELLENT and just gave my cat and I the best care I've ever witnessed from any veterinarian clinic. Prior to going to Nuevo Laredo, I stopped by Critter Care with my cat dying in my arms. It was 7:08 pm, and the clinic stated it closed at 8 pm. I described my cat's symptoms to the front desk, and the state of emergency was clearly established. The nurse there then responded by condescendingly remarking on how we walked in 8 minutes past the time they stop taking patients. I said nothing. Then she said, "it sounds like this is an emergency. However, the starting cost is $360 just to see the cat. Are you sure you want/can pay that?". As I sat down to fill out the patient Intake form, the lack of compassion for animals from this establishment dawned on me. I got up and left with my cat. Please make sure that whoever you're trusting with your pet is a person or place that loves animals! I would give zero stars if Yelp allowed me to do so. read more

Critter Care Veterinary Clinic (CCVC) is not child friendly. The front staff is not up to par with the reception staff at regular (human) doctor clinics/offices (i.e. professionalism, friendliness, helpfulness, and willingness to provide a positive customer experience) particularly Brooke. This clinic makes no exceptions for any extraordinary situation like the one I was in yesterday, 7/11. Since March 2013, I was a patron of CCVC. Over the years, I took nine (9) pets (3 of which were "re-homed") and an injured momma possum that caused a traffic jam on E. Del Mar boulevard. My earliest memories of Dr. Leyendecker were at the, now retired, Dr. Spruell's clinic on Clark Boulevard in the early 2000s. Yesterday's (7/11/23) experience ended this long term relationship with CCVC. It's a triple digit summer, I'm a single parent with a young son, and I have two (2) rescued puppy GSDs' whose appointment I rescheduled two (2) weeks prior to yesterday. I also have no childcare past 13:00 hrs when summer camp ends. As an only child, I have no relatives or surviving parents or ex-in-laws to babysit my child. With the exception of yesterday, I never forgot the "no children under 18" rule that was implemented around the pandemic and exists post pandemic. I usually run errands when my son is at school. Being that my son wanted a puppy, I wanted him to help me with some tasks incumbent upon dog ownership - one of which is veterinary care. Even if I forgot the rule, CCVC offers curbside. However, yesterday en route to our appointment, the puppies urinated and defecated Gerber-like consistent diarrhea. My son was retching at the smell and sight of diarrhea on the cars passenger floorboards'. The smell was horrendous. We took the rubber mats out, rolled our windows down, and proceeded to our appointment. We checked in and sat down in the well ventilated office only to told by Brooke that my minor was not allowed in the office and we had to either wait in our car or sit outside. Being how bad the smell was, we would have to sit with our windows down in the car exposed to the heat. I explained our situation to Brooke, and she brought Dr. Leyendecker out. Dr. Leyndecker gave us those two (2) options as well. I told her what happened in the vehicle, and asked if she could kennel the dogs. Her response was "no". It was either "wait outside or wait in your car. I'll try and get you in as fast as I can." No exceptions for extraordinary circumstances. Despite the SMS heat advisory detailing the heat indexes reaching 112-114 degrees, these were our only two (2) options. Our dogs *really* needed to see the vet. I grabbed two (2) chairs and waited outside. I cannot understand how a veterinarian would tell us to take our dogs out in this weather nonetheless a 6 year old child. She had advised me a year ago that dogs' can have a heat stroke with only 3 minutes exposure to the heat. These options were inhumane not only for the dogs but for a child. We waited, we knew it was important for the dogs to see the vet. But now I'm left with questions: Why couldn't an exception be made? Why couldn't the dogs (with prior history @ CCVC) be in put in a kennel where dogs are boarded for the 15-20 minutes we waited outside? Why couldn't we just be given a room to wait in so that my son nor dogs be in the triple digit heat? Where is the humanity? The dogs needed to be at the vet; there's a high volume of bookings such that we waited 2 weeks for this appointment and 2 weeks before for the rescheduled appointment. My son began sweating and the dogs' panting excessively and two (2) employees came for our two (2) GSDs. We took off in the car to hose the entire rear bench seats', the rubber mats', and the entire rear floor board. Needless to say, I woke up this morning bothered by the handling of the matter. I called today (7/12) and asked Brooke to provide me with my six (6) pets records' as I would no longer consider being a client of CCVC. There was no friendliness or apology. There wasn't a "we'd hate to see you leave after a decade of veterinary care, let us make this right". Nothing. I feel silly for ever feeling that every pet (aka patient) I ever brought in mattered. I feel like any relationship I felt with this clinic was false or invalid. I've waited 3+ hours with an appointment. I've followed advices, follow ups, dog food recommendations, and a veterinary referral to BluePearl in San Antonio. I've defended this clinic from a neighbor USBP employee that claimed their dogs or horses died at CCVC during spade/neutering as a consequence of other anesthetizing. After 10 years, I am left with the feeling no dog owner nor parent should feel by any doctor - being treated inhumanely. read more

We have 17 cats that have been, or very soon will be under the care of Dr.Leyendecker, and Critter Care. My wife has been loyal to Critter Care longer than she and I have known each other, 2009. In fact, the very first cat that Critter Care neutered and cared for, Cocho, just passed recently due to old age. This will be the 1st 5 star review I've ever given to critter care, at no fault of Critter Care's at all. Webb County, and/or the city of Laredo doesn't yet help any of the vet clinics in Laredo financially assist pet owners to support the cause of controlling a serious problem in animal overpopulation. I used to live in a city that offered free spay/neuter services. Ive always lived in a city where you could get the same, for a nominal fee. For any of these financial savings opportunities, you had to jump through a few hoops, driving far from your home, being placed on a waiting list, often months ahead, and etc... That doesn't exist, at all, in Laredo. You can save a little with the help of coupon savings by visiting LAPS, but even after that, it's still very expensive. Despite the exhorbeftent cost, I will eagerly give 5 stars to Critter Care today. Yesterday, despite not having an appointment, I rushed Nobu to Critter Care. Despite it being busier than I'd ever seen it, not only did they fit me in, but they cared about me. I seldom do, but yesterday I lost it and broke down, I openly wept. I was just certain my furry friend was going to be euthanized. I was later embarrassed and apologized, but the staff assured me it was ok, "your pet is a member of your family", I was hugged and cared about, they absolutely did not ignore this big blubbering man. The thing is Nobu, by far, is the smartest cat weve ever had. He can fetch, come to his name and go to his crate when it's time to eat because he's on a permanent special diet and I'm convinced that he knows it. Anyway, as I waited to euthanize Nobu, the doctor miraculously saved Nobu's life. Not only did her extra effort save our cat, her social ability and openness healEd my heart, she healed my wife's heart over the speaker on my phone also. Doctor Leyendecker genuinely cares about me, she hugged me tightly like you'd hug a member of your family. Shes told me on more than one occasion that she cares for her military service members and veterans, and she's proved it on multiple occasions. I am an army vet and now she's helped me out more times than I can count. In summary, I'm giving 5 stars today because Critter Care went way beyond the extra mile. They say, "You get what you pay for", that absolutely applies to Critter Care, Dr Leyendecker and the Critter Care staff....... read more

Our family dog began having seizures, and Saturday night we drove her to SA to get treated (since there's no night vets in Laredo). Sunday, after the care she received in SA, she started to feel better and was stable, so we drove back home to Laredo. Monday morning she suffered one seizure, so we took her to Critter Care that same afternoon. Dr. Leyendecker ordered a liver panel test, as she suspected possible complications. Knowing that our dog's liver was potentially in distress, she still chose to inject her with vaccine booster shots. Immediately after coming home following these shots, our baby began suffering unstoppable and horrific convulsions. There is a large amount of research that shows that sick dogs shouldn't be vaccinated. Tuesday we were called to come back, and the liver test confirmed that her liver enzymes were through the roof. I waited hours to meet with our vet because I had multiple questions, but when Dr. Leyendecker finally met with me, she said, "Let's make this quick, I have a surgery." She was rude, in a hurry, and dismissive to the questions I had. She rushed me out of the exam room and did not make time to help us understand why our dog was getting worse. Wednesday morning, our baby died in my arms. The drastic and horrible change occurred after vaccination of a sick and weak dog. "Unfortunately, as parents we were working and couldn't be available--we would never have consented to allowing our sick pet to be vaccinated. We post this to warn others to think twice about vaccinating a sick pet. I want to give a great big shoutout to Dr.Sandra Leyendecker and her amazing staff, my late husbands fur baby started having problems during the night I contacted the Dr before she was even open and she told me she would be in clinic shortly and would check his medical record to see what he had going in( he had some problems similar quite sometime back. I was not able to take him my self due to working so my daughter gratefully took him in. Lab work and X-rays were needed to determine what we were facing. Now mind you our Gopher is getting there there in years and is now no longer at home. He does great getting around as he is very familiar with his home environment. I was really worried and was up most of the night crying. I just could not loose this precious fur baby my husband had left for me to care for and for him to keep me company and give me comfort. Lab work and X-rays come back that Gophie is in great health even his heart! As I said before he is getting up there in years and we now know that he has arthritis but that he can live a very comfortable life with a little pain medicine as needed. Very disappointed in my experience at critter care. I'm not to here to say Leyendecker is a bad vet or a malicious person, but my experience as a whole was a negative one. We had called her on a Saturday over our family dog's leg being broken, she had us wait til Monday morning to see him. We had explained the entire situation to her, so she finally takes us in Monday and immediately begins to muzzle our dog with a broken leg, and becomes "scared" of the dog. Afterwards, all she recommended us to do was to put him to sleep or drive him to another vet while he'd already been in distress for two days. Essentially, we ended up putting him to sleep when she gave us hope she would be able to fix him. He was being treated it in SA, and the only reason we didn't take him back was because she reassured us she could do the surgery. She also charged a good amount which to me it seemed is all she was interested in. read more

Dr. Linedecker butchered our dog's ear crop. We provided photographs of what we wanted and physically (in person) advised her on what we wanted. The day of the surgery we were called about a time change and when we asked about it, were told to go ahead and drop our dog off. She gave our dog the shortest and unnatural-looking cut (similiar to pitbull). We voiced our concern to the staff and to our surprise and horror, no one from that business has even talked about it to us. I was skeptical of her from our initial appointment due to her rudeness when I asked for more information and clarification. Again, IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR AND NO ONE FROM THIS FACILITY (INCLUDING DR. LINEDECKER) HAS CONTACTED US ABOUT THIS OR EVEN APOLOGIZED. I already felt bad for allowing this procedure and for the surgery to come out the way that it did....I have felt horrible and continue to feel horrible about the entire ordeal. Don't ever go with dr Reyes she is a very unprofessional dr she took care of my dog. When you tell them you need to send your dog to the hospital The staff will tell you you have to be seen by the doctor to be referred but the doctor when you're seen her doctor will say that's not true but the office staff did say that furthermore, once your dog needs to go to the hospital, they'll take their sweet time sending the records and they'll make you call over and over. They even have the office of the hospital call for those records and even the hospital I took my dog said that the staff was sassy. Unfortunately Miss linebacker is not there, but Miss Reyes is the reason why I will no longer be taking my dog. I do not feel safe having my dog in a clinic that has her staffed the other doctors says my dog is very healthy and she should live to her 20s while Mrs Reyes is ready to say that my dog should die at the age of 13 only a couple of days before her birthday. Idk And if she knew her birthday was a couple of days I don't even think she checked her record that detailed . If that's not enough, she wanted to x-rays when the night before she had done her that. what kind of doctor asked you to do x-rays the next day when they already done them the day before. But if you asked the staff, if Mrs Reyes is is a good doctor, they say she is, but I'm a client and I know firsthand because I had to deal with her in a dark time and instead of getting comfort and solutions for my dog she tried to say she was going to die because of age she has always been a healthy dog. She couldn't even tell me what was wrong with my dog, but at least she answered my request to have her sent to a hospital after hours of waiting for her to see my dog after I've been calling her staff since the morning. I have taken my fur babies to them for YEARS and will continue to do so because they are so friendly AND knowledgeable. Lyendecker threw my babies to the street when I got upset cause she placed false charges to my account and I had proof. My dogs were still sick and she told me they were going to die because of my fault because she "doesn't help people who don't have money". She said that "her clinic was not a help center". I did have the money I just didn't agree that she charged me for things that's were not done to my dogs in that clinic because I was there the entire time in both clinics and I had documentation. Every year we take a big long trip to Mexico and having been so excited to finally leave, I overlooked a very important task and that was making sure we had an international travel certificate for our furry baby. I called Critter Care while driving across the country and they were very helpful. They encouraged me to walk in and I do so the very next day. The office is just off of a big highway and it was easy to find. The ladies in reception were very nice and answered all my questions. Despite the fact that the room was filled with walk-ins, the wait was acceptable. Actually, it was faster than expected. They have a lot of staff at the office. Our vet was Dr. Gaylon Wilmeth and wow, I was very pleased with her. She was very nice and looked at our fur baby with lots of love and care. She informed of what to look for, tips and she checked him over a number of times to make sure everything was ok. The passion, the love and the care that Critter Care has for animals is like no other. We rescued a puppy who was dying in our arms and without hesitation the Vets and Staff were all hands on deck. They were attentive, hopeful but honest throughout the whole process. They did everything in their power to save his life. Our puppy had to be hospitalized and on an IV for a couple of days. They gave us visiting hours and a call every morning to give us an update on him. They went above and beyond to make us feel involved. We have been to multiple veterinarians in Dallas and we have never seen a team like this one. Everyone was so kind and made us feel welcome. Our puppy has been out of the hospital for 6 days and he is doing amazing. I thank Critter Care for saving his life and not giving up on him especially when his chances were extremely low. I am very happy with the service that Critter Care has given me and my puppy Rocky! The first time I went was 3 weeks ago as a walk-in worried because my puppy had some type of skin irritation. There was a bit of wait time but I didn't mind. The vet did a full exam and told me what to do. I just went today again 12/1/17 for his first vaccines, but this time I set up an appointment. I was seen right away. Once again they took their time checking Rocky's progress. I had a couple of questions and they answered all of them. I didn't feel rushed or like if they didn't care. My husband and I went in on Tuesday, February 5 at 2:15 for our 2:30 appointment with our cat. We are traveling to Hawaii, and needed to come have a certificate of health written for him to travel. Sandra Leyendecker was who saw us. Prior to coming to Texas before flying to Hawaii, we had all tests and required vaccines administered. All we needed was the certificate and for flea/heart worm medication to be applied. Upon arrival, we were told our cats grain free diet was not healthy for him, even though cats are CARNIVORES, and do not need grains, corn, or vegetable byproduct. A feline leukemia test was given without our needing it or wanting it, as it's something we were planing on doing in Hawaii. Having got there at 2:15, we left at 5:15. Very unprofessional, and had we not absolutely needed to have the certificate signed, we would not have gone. What should have been a roughly 70 dollar appointment ended up be 118 dollars. I wanted to take the time to write this review based on my personal experiences with Critter Care Veterinary Clinic. As a long-time client and former employee, I have nothing but good things to say about this establishment. I was employed for 7 years while I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. I have been a client for about 10 years or so and still visit regularly for my pet's care. The owner, Dr. Leyendecker, is a passionate veterinarian with plenty of experience with animals of all shapes and sizes. She has seen and treated birds, reptiles, cats, dogs, and more of my exotic pets (too many to count). They have a very convenient emergency line that I have used countless times, and Dr. Leyendecker always arrived promptly and eager to help my furry children. As a former employee I can say that Dr. Leyendecker has a big heart for animals in need and will go out of her way to help in any way she can. She genuinely cares for animals and will speak the truth and give animals a voice. She gives the best recommendations for an animal's welfare. It's unfortunate not many pet owners are willing to take those recommendations. I have read that Critter Care forces additional "unnecessary" products or procedures, but they do not force anyone to perform anything they do not want, nor will she do so without consent. There are policies and procedures to follow. As a former employee I know firsthand how hectic it can be, but the staff is always courteous and helpful. She holds high standards of care, and rightfully so, as we have an extensive list of diseases in South Texas. Especially because of the fact that we are right on the border. She is one of the only veterinarians who will work in collaboration with the shelters and rescue groups. I have seen my fare share of disgruntled clients throughout my 7 years of employment, but do not be discouraged. People are quick to spread the negative, although I can say that it was rarely an error on behalf of the staff. Still, she will do anything in her power to set things straight. The attention is always good and they do their job fine; today I called and came without appointment because they told me over the phone that if we get here before 5:30pm is fine and the fee is like a regular consult, after that time it will be an emergency... So we got here before, and After 30 min there, they tell me that if they pass us in after 6:00pm it will be an emergency consult. So what happened to the "before 5:30pm"? I take my two Petco kitties here for regular care and they were spayed/declawed here. Quick recovery from all procedures. When I bred AKC Bichons, she was my vet and was always there when I had questions. Now that I no longer breed dogs, I purchased a champion AKC Shih Tzu and took her in to be spayed. I was happy that my puppy experienced no pain and has no scar from her surgery Plenty of pain meds were prescribed for after care and an antibiotic to keep her from infection and a follow up visit was included to check on her healing. My girl is on a great flea pill that works and a heartworm treatment she only takes every three months. I would give it five stars but wait times can run long sometimes and the waiting room is not pet friendly. read more

I have been to many vets over the years and I can say without bias that both Dr Leyendecker and Dr Wilmeth are the best vets I have ever met. Not only are they both extremely proficient in their field, but they are also caring for their patients (pets) and the pet owners. They have always done great work for my dog. I have also seen them work themselves to the bone and still have take the time to go above and beyond for their clients, even offering caring consolation when nothing more can be done. These doctors support the communities in Webb, La Salle, and Frio counties in more ways than most people know. Dr. L is the best practicing vet in Laredo, people are quick to blame the vet when they dont get the results they want immediately- and why are people shocked that the veterinarian wants to get paid,,,, the comment "lacks experience and knowledge" just shows how ignorant MW is,, I guess MW must also be a vet since they know so much! If I could give zero stars, I would. This vet is a bully who tries to extort patients into purchasing things they don't want. If you say no, the response is to tell you to go elsewhere. Believe me, I don't have to be told twice. They refused to administer vaccinations and a health certificate for the dog to cross state lines unless they microchipped him, even though I told them I had my own microchips. A microchip has nothing to do with the services we requested. Their microchips come with a monthly fee to register, which is significantly more expensive than other microchip companies, and I suspect that Dr. Leyendecker gets a kick-back from the registration, which is why she is so insistent of forcing them on people that don't want them. I've also had the experience of them describing my dog completely different that what the dog appears - for example, calling a white chihuahua a brown and black basset hound. Their prices are way more expensive than what is typical as well. They are not ethical, nor do they have the well-being of the dogs in mind. I came home from work and found my miniature doberman pincher very still and he was just laying on his bed which is not the usual. My dog is very hyper and jumps at least 2 feet up in the air when he sees me. This dog is my son's and i knew that my son had taken another of his dogs to Critter Care. I called the office and the girl told me that it would be 30.00 consult and 50.00 extra if the consult would take any time after 6:00pm. So I would probably have to pay at the very least 80.00 plus medication if needed. I realized that i would probably have to pay no less than 200.00 if lucky, but its my sons dog and i worried that dog would die so i hurriedly got the dog to the office, knowing that it would be a hardship. my son was working and i had called him but he did not answer as he was at work, but i decided to take the dog to vet anyway. When i got there clerk there asked if it was going to be under my name or my sons. I said well it doesn't really matter as i am going to be the one to pay. Well she asked for my sons name and she saw that my son had taken a previous dog there and she proceeded to tell me, that if i use my son's name and use his account she needed his authorization to use his account and she needed to talk to him, of course my son was at work so he couldn't answer her, and i tried calling and texting him but he did not respond. The clerk got on the phone and spoke to someone i assumed was the vet to ask what she should do. Anyway, the girl proceeded to tell me that i could put the account under my name but she would have to charge me 370.00 since it was an emergency and i was a new customer and of course that did not include whatever medications the dog would need. Mind you I had decided that I would pay the 30.00, then the 50.00 and of course the medication if needed BUT to pay almost 400.00 for the vet to see my dog only because the clerk could not contact my son was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Talk about animal cruelty and abuse. Tell me what do people do when they have sick pets and don't have 400.00 to spare? I will never recommend Critter Care to anyone on the contrary I will tell anyone who ever has a pet NEVER to take to Critter Care. I know the vet has to make money but they were charging me more that i would have to pay to see an MD!!! I am sorry but they don't even get a 1 star rating. :( read more

Pets with appointments get seen pretty quickly and walk-ins obviously take a little longer as they have to be squeezed in. Best vet in Laredo with the best staff, period. Our 14 lb. pup got bitten by a rattlesnake at 9pm on a Sat. night and the vet tech answered on the second ring. He immediately discerned the gravity of the situation and told us he would meet us at the clinic in 15 to 20 mins. Even though we had never been to Critter Care and were not patients of Dr. Leyendecker!!! Our pup's treatment began immediately and the doctor was on the phone as soon as we got there. He was kept at the hosp, but we were encouraged to visit with him daily until we were able to bring him home and the vet and her staff were helpful, knowledgeable, patient, and caring!!!Thanks Dr. Leyendecker for saving our pup's life!!!!! If you truly love your pets, bring them to Critter Care and don't waste your time making the rounds thru the other vets. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had with a vet or in dealing with anyone who runs a business. I took my dog Daphne to Critter Care Veterinary Clinic in Laredo TX after she'd been sick for a few days. This was not my usual vet but I was away from home. The staff was very respectful & well mannered. The veterinarian, Dr. Leyendecker, was rude, short in her answers, & answered my questions as if she thought I should already know the answers. She repeatedly misquoted me in the office during the visit about Daphnes symptoms & I had to correct her many times. She treated only one of the symptoms Daphne was having & ignored the rest even though I kept questioning it. Daphne is now worse than before we went to this vet. I called the vet clinic to explain this & the staff took a message. When the vet called back she was very rude. She ademently denied that she could have misdiagnosed Daphne even though she was having the same sypmtoms that were intensifying by the hour. I asked that she see Daphne to examine her & tell me if there could be another cause for the sympoms. She refused to admit she had made a mistake & would not re-examine Daphne unless I paid her again, which I refued to pay for her mistake. I said I would pay for any treatment but not for the exam. So she refused to see Daphne at all & when I demanded that I be given Daphnes medical record to take to another vet she wanted to get off the phone. She then called me back less than 5 minutes later to suddenly tell me that she had a couple ideas what could be making Daphne sick, neither of which was what she had treater her for, & told me over the phone that the only treatment would be surgery & cost $400-without even a proper re-examination to base this new "diagnoses" on. I refused to pay her that after the way she'd handled the whole situation. I called the office again about picking up Daphnes record & did about an hour later. While there in the clinic, the vet called me from her office in another part of the clinic to tell me that she'd already contacted her lawyer concerning my "allegations" that she did not treat Daphne properly stating that she had done nothing wrong & my dog should be fine & that she did not want my business & hung up on me. This was exceedingly imature behavior from someone who is supposed to be a health care professional in my opinion. Once I got home & was able to read the copy of Daphnes records I saw many things written in that had not been there when she treated Daphne. The vet had written in derrogatory comments about me personally, misquoted me about Daphnes symptoms AGAIN, & graffitied all over the records. Daphne is still sick & getting worse with the SAME SYPTOMS that this vet ignored & did not treat. I'm taking her to a new vet tomorrow & hope this one will actually help her. When I tried to call the clinic back to ask about the records being in this condition, they are no longer taking my calls. So I;ve informed them that if Daphne dies as a result of this vets actions I will be filing a malpractice lawsuit against her. If you love your pet, please DO NOT GO HERE!!!
