It took me awhile to realise but the hotel is part of a German chain and the Teutonic efficiency has been married with a most friendly welcome and attitude from the German staff, who all speak good English. This starts from the moment you check in as you are offered a glass of champagne on arrival. You are then shown personally to your room and a plate of fresh fruit is delivered as well as a plate of chocolates! I noticed that everything in the hotel is monogrammed with the Fredrick's brand. Very impressive I stayed in a suite and the £30 for upgrade is worth it for a sumptuous room, lovely bathroom and toiletries. The spa facilities are well designed to fit a lot into a relatively small space. The pool has an indoor and outdoor section as well as jacuzzi beds and a fountain. There is a steam room and sauna as well as experience showers. There is a full menu of spa treatments available. The restaurant aspires to fine dining and proves that it has the building blocks in place for great things. A plate of canapes arrived as I was perusing the menu, all delicious bursts of flavour. My belly pork starter was paired perfectly with scallop. The lamb main course was skilfully well constructed, allowing the lamb to shine through. My dessert of raspberry souffle was exemplary. Of course, if you're lucky, you can try and score a table at the Fat Duck or the Waterside Inn, both 3 Michelin star restaurants within 10 minutes drive of Fredrick's Overall a top class hotel perfect for an escape from London

On first entering this hotel I was surprised as to how old school it was, nice little chandeliers all around with tiny lights. I was also very happy with the room as even though it was small it had a nice bed with quite a few pillows to choose from. The bath was also nice & I was happy when I first entered my room, having said that when I further tried to use the facility I was really not happy. The slippers were really dusty & also the shower gel bottle had hair around it which is absolutely disgusting in a nice hotel. This is my biggest pain point from this hotel. The restaurant was pretty decent & pretty plain & simple breakfast. I only stayed for a day & for the 1st time, so this is my first impression never know what happens in future.

A…read morefantastic atmosphere with its ultra comfortable leather booth seats, skylight bringing in natural sunlight, even plug sockets for laptop users and free wifi. It also seems the place to watch live sports over a drink and a burger with tv screens on each corner of the restaurant yet it is still very family friendly and service has always been impeccable. In my honest opinion I do believe they serve some of the best American dishes around and can even compete with some of London's favourite diners. Wild wings (cajun) x6 Incredibly moreish and can see myself finishing a higher quantity bucket load. The wing sizes were quite average but very succulent and meaty inside. The cajun spices gave it a nice sweet paprika garlicky flavour and latched on well on the crispy skins of the wing showing that they were well fried, Sloppy Joes Ticked all the boxes for a fantastic burger. First that lovely pillow soft brioche bun, slightly charred so it came warm. Then came the rich tender minced beef fried with onions and peppers in there to give it some texture and boost of flavour. The sauce it came with was generous, with lovely rich sweet and and savoury notes keeping everything moist and juicy throughout. Finished off nicely with a fine slice of cheese, melted perfectly to intensify the umami flavours. Full rack ribs A delicious slab of ribs, keeping its meaty texture and flavours which suggest it was slow cooked the full length of time to tenderise and soften the meat. There was no pre cooking the ribs beforehand here. This allowed the rich BBQ coca cola sauce to penetrate through to the bone whilst reducing in liquid to create a rich and sticky coating around the ribs keeping everythign moist and juicy. A nice light creamy coleslaw on the side to cool things off. Curly fries These were perfectly fried. It had that moreish fluffy inside and crispy outside that was coated in the sweet mild spices which you find collapsing on itself as you chew, sending the rush of flavour through each mouthful. I say mouthful as who just pops one in their mouth per bite, not if they are this good. Chilli fries Not the spicy chilli as I imagined but chilli consisting of a wonderful well flavoured mix of red kidney beans, onions and red peppers in a lovely thick tomato slurry that helped bind the sauce and flavours on each and every chip. Drizzled with sour cream to add a lovely creamy consistency. Very wholesome dish. Sloppy suits every occassion whether it's your quick lunch or a celebration feast. Food has always been fantastic and paired with that is it's lovely bright and spacious atmosphere. Those who can eat a lot like me should definitely go for one of their food challenges. try their Sloppy Joes challenge and knock me down the top of the chart if you can.

Cafe Football is going to be the place to be during the World Cup…read more Yes, it has stiff competition in the form of the nearby casino which boasts 27 screens (so I'm told), but this sports bar-cum-restaurant opened by former Manchester United team-mates Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs tops it in terms of all things related to The Beautiful Game. For a start, you're greeted by a display full of football boots the moment you enter the cafe, some of which are autographed by Ryan Giggs. The menu is divided into sections such as The Kick-Off and Terrace Food. The walls outside the toilets are signed by the owners. The walls are covered with football quotes. And so on. There was one big screen in the bar when I was there, while there were smaller screens for the more football-crazy for each of the tables and in front of the bar stools. I understand that they're planning to put more screens in place in time for the World Cup, which will probably boost the viewer to screen ratio from 8:1 to 4:1 or something along those lines. Now, I didn't try their food (mainly standard comfort fare), and it appears that they do have a fairly extensive wine and beer selection at prices you tend to get at a Westfield. I'm not too bothered by details like that when there's football on the telly.

As a proud Mancunian, and Man United fan, I've been wanting to get myself down to Cafe Football…read more(jointly owned by the legends that are Gary Neville & Ryan Giggs) since I first heard of its existence a couple of years ago. I'm happy to say, I've finally had that chance, and whilst not perfect, was definitely a great experience. I'll start off with the bad - I'd always imagined it as a standalone restaurant, but it's actually attached to the side of a huge shopping centre. A bit of snobbery on my side, I'll admit, but it does lose some of the lustre because of it. There's also a lot less memorabilia once you go in - besides a few shirts hung up near the toilets (admittedly, impressive to see those names up there), there's little to hint of the footballing pedigree of the two owners. But, onto the good - having sampled a gut-busting 3 course meal there, I can safely say the food is a drastic step up from the standard you'd usually get from your average sports bar/restaurant. I began with the chicken wings, easily the best I've ever had anywhere! They're immense, really crispy on the outside & very tender on the inside. Result! I then moved onto their version of the sausage roll - black pudding and pork, encased in a crunchy pastry and served with a side of home-made beans (mixed with pulled pork!!) I finished off with the Vimto trifle - given I believe the mighty Vimto to be the nectar of the Gods, it was always going to go down well! I meant what I said at the start, that amount of food was literally gut-busting, and I will admit I felt it the following day. But, it was totally worth it...
