Botanically Curious is offering a little oasis on Congress St in Portland. Their warm, welcoming,…read moreseasonally decorated space is great for events (which they do a lot of, and I encourage you to check out their website for what's happening now), but also for a low pressure, low key, non-hurried, non-frenetic, quiet space to work from home at. The acoustics are good, the seating options are abundant and varied (whether you want to work from a stool at a high top table, or a couch, or a lounge chair), the staff is knowledgeable, and the drinks here? Wonderful. Described as "your friendly neighborhood herbalist" owner Paula - and staff! - are handcrafting remedies, drinks, and rituals in a cup. This educational apothecary has a rotating menu of teas, elixirs, and zero proof drinks. I had a non-caffeinated wellness latte recently that was intentionally created for slowing down, compassion, and emotional strength (made with tulsi tea, rose, cardamom, shatvari, vanilla, and oat milk) and it was one of the loveliest mugs of comfort I've had in a long time. Delicious (and visually beautiful!) from the first sip to the last. The mocktails I've had have all been well balanced and flavorful. The menu here does a good and reliable job at laying out whether a drink is tart or earthy or sweet or minerally or refreshing. If you don't know what you want to drink (or maybe what you want to work on emotionally), you can always just ask... they really have a wealth of information that they're sharing freely to leave you a little better then when you first entered their doors! (Also, tea lovers, this is a fantastic spot to grab traditional and unique blends from locally sourced ingredients!)

They are all about supporting local, whether it be local farmers (the ingredients used in their elixirs and mocktails are local to Maine!) or supporting local female artists and entrepreneurs through the products they sell or the store's interior itself. The store is run by a team of dedicated, passionate women who are incredibly knowledgeable about their herbal apothecary.

The best-tasting nuts you will ever put in your mouth, bar none. Even if you're not a raw-foodie,…read moreyou can totally appreciate how awesome these nuts are; the taste, the texture, the varieties are all amazing. Why raw nuts? Here's the quick and dirty on germinated nuts and seeds if you didn't know already, (I got this from the website): "Countless nutritionists and living foods experts have all stressed that it is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to germinate (soak) all nuts and seeds for at least 12 hours before consuming them. Germination is a process where all the vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential fatty acids (EFAs) that are dormant in nuts and seeds begin to activate and multiply. Germination also eliminates certain toxins and acids within the dormant nuts and seeds that would interfere with digestion. After the germination, we add all organic live food ingredients to the nuts and dehydrate them at low temperatures for up to five days. This preserves all the nutrition within the product and creates optimum flavor and digestibility. This is different than roasting nuts which is much quicker, but destroys vital enzymes and minerals These products are the perfect bridge for those looking to eat more healthy foods or switch to an all 'raw' diet without compromising taste." These aren't just the best tasting healthy or raw nuts out there in my opinion, they are the best tasting PERIOD. They have delicious varieties. My favorites are: Sweet Chili Almonds (encrusted in sweet chili awesomeness), Spicy Onion-Garlic Pistachios (for a spicy bold take on my favorite nut), Cina-Pecan Bun (great for a dessert or snack) and the Vegan Cheezy Almonds (cause I love cheese powder, ALOT). Alas, they don't have a store location where you can sample these, so if you want to get some, you must order off the Internet here: www.livingnutz.com. The main drawback is the price, but they are truly, high-quality gourmet nuts. They are pricey (try $6.99 for 4oz) and you don't get a large amount. If I was a rich girl, you bet I'd be snacking on a bag of these (or should I say, deez?) everyday.

An assortment of great (and clean) flavors! Love that they're sprouted and kept live. Favorites…read moreinclude the Divine Chocolate Walnuts, Celestial Cinna Pecans (love mixing these two flavors together!), and Zesty Almonds. I am yet to try a flavor I don't enjoy. :)
