Really lovely experience dropping in on Thanksgiving. Dropping in can be a daunting process especially when its a bigger group working out together but I felt comfortable the entire time. Pros: great communication leading up to my time there. Happy that they had the workout on the website so I knew what to expect. When I walked in I found one of the coach's and he was kind and welcoming and after a few questions gave me a quick run down on the space. The head coach was really great! Lots of enthusiasm, humor, and explained the workout pretty well (though not all at once). I would totally take a class with him again. He even came over to me to tweak a movement which I appreciated as occasionally when I drop in places they ignore me when there since its often a one time visit (though with how much I travel it often isnt). The gym is very well organized, clean, and you can tell they take great care of the equipment. Cons: As a drop in, my experiences is usually that people come up and introduce themselves to a new face or sometimes there is some sort of acknowledgement by the coach that there are some or a drop in, but not the case here. The main gripe I had with this gym was the fact that everyone started cleaning up while folks were still finishing the WOD and not just putting things away, they legit started mopping! I was still on the ground doing sit ups and people were legit mopping around my head. I get wanting to keep the place clean, but that was super rude in my opinion. Best CrossFit gym or gym in St Pete period.! Been coming here for 8 years and the place keeps getting better and better. They're constantly upgrading equipment, the facility, and cleaning, making the gym an inviting place to be. Walking in the door you're always greeted by the welcoming staff and members alike. If you're thinking about trying CrossFit, do it. Even if you have prior injuries or physical limitations...join and they will work with you! I have my fair share of joint and mobility issues and I come 5-6 days a week and almost every day I'm asking the staff for recommendations on how to get the most of my workout even with my limitations. I found this gym via ClassPass. I normally take a 90 Minute Hot Hatha class on Wednesday's but I had an event this evening and did not want to be a slacker. This gym is a well oiled CrossFit9 facility. They have a great location that allows for a lot of parking, a very open configurable space, lot of circulating air, tons of varying equipment and a safe outdoor running space. The routine I had was doable; not easy but doable. What I did love was that the instructors were quick to give me alternatives for exercises I could not perform due to a previous accident. I have to applaud them that 100%. The people that were in the class seemed like a nice group and they were of varying ages, body types and health levels. Meaning anyone could go and just start were you are and build up at your own pace. Now, my only gripe. I am new to the area and still and blow away by the Ave/ST all going North and South!!! What is that about? I left my place early, plugged in the address into my GPS and left happy go CrossFit. I got lost, very lost, so lost I was at the end of St Pete by a deserted park - think Netflix horror movie. Thank God it was daytime. I attempted to call the gym but my phone could not dial from the webpage. *I wanted to go home at this point but ClassPass would have billed me $15.00 so I re-entered the address manually and got re-routed to the correct location somehow. I showed up 4.5 minutes late --- yes late but honestly I was amazed my time was even that good. There one instructor who looked at me and somehow had zero sympathy for my efforts of getting way lost and still getting there in a reasonable amount of time. I get it I WAS LATE! He brought this fact up about say 10 times. Like "see why you should be on time", Gave me the You are late "side eye", as well as "look at how late she is" eye to the other instructors since I was LATE I did not know the steps. Like I said, I get it I was LATE. I am sorry I am new and was lost. So in a nutshell the gym is great and the staff is great - even the nagging one. But I probably won't go back because he was way over the top with reminding me how late I was - not even considering how stressed I was trying not to be late and feeling bad because I was lost and I hate being late. Crossfit 9 is by far the most thrilling adventure I've ever had at a gym/box. I've been members of other chain gyms across the Bay Area, but I must say in all honesty, once I started coming here I knew it was going to change my life, and certainly it has. I was somewhat oblivious to my own strengths until the positive pressure was on me and I think I was amazed at what I was actually able to do! Not to mention, I've met some pretty fantastic people here! Everyone is so motivating and encouraging and not once has it felt like a competition, it's more like, "How much more better can I do today than my last WOD?" I must say, from one of the owners, Steve to the most amazing coaches I've met in life Zac & Lindsey, I feel like I've found a true family here. They guided me, corrected me and encouraged me every step of the way. Hello? What about the kids' classes on Saturday?!?! These girls rock! They make it so fun for our kids! By far the most inclusive Crossfit gym in the area! They are amazingly focused on safety not just with Covid but in the lifting and technique components! They take their time with a five week on ramp for people who have never lifted and facilitate social meetings amongst people in the gym (pre Covid) I moved here to st Pete knowing no one and made a large portion of my social circle from the gym. So proud of the environment they've created and their commitment to philanthropic causes!! read more

Been a member for over a year now and I look forward to going every time. I only do the Hiit classes as I'm not fond of a lot of cross fit moves. The classes are always challenging and nonjudgmental! Best CrossFit experience I have ever had. Came in for two drop-in visits last year while visiting the city. The coach leading the classes was Dane. I really appreciated the focus on teaching the lifting mechanics prior to beginning the class. Most CrossFit gyms I have been to never do this. Dane was very knowledgable and did a great job helping everyone in the class with making sure they were safe and lifting with appropriate form. I started at CrossFit 9 in January, having been a runner for years. I completed a marathon in November and thought I was in pretty good shape. I was wrong. I'd been hearing about CrossFit from so many friends, but was convinced it was just hype. I'd also heard not-so-great things about other boxes in the area. I'm so happy I took the opportunity to join the Foundations class at CrossFit9!!! I seriously love getting out of bed every morning to go workout with friends. I feel motivated; strong; pushed harder than I've ever been pushed. The coaches are firm and knowledgeable - they know when to tell me to add 10lbs or to take a rest. Everyone works at their own level - people from all ages, all fitness levels are able to scale the workout to their own ability. I'm pretty middle-of-the-road, so I appreciate that I'm not being compared to a 22 year old bodybuilder as I'd feared :) I started doing twice/week and have since upgraded to the "unlimited" plan - and now I'm going 4-5 times each week - and missing it when I'm not able. Everyone I've met has been supportive, kind and welcoming - and at every level from beginner through the hardcore muscle-heads. They're all there to push their own limits and help you reach yours. Having dropped in at a few different boxes, I can safely say that CF9 is the best in south Pinellas County. This is by far the best CrossFit gym I have ever been to. My husband and I have gone to numerous boxes across several states in the last 4 years. The coaches are amazing. I know CrossFit can be intimidating for a lot of people but you really shouldn't worry about that here. The coaches will modify each workout based on your skill level. They will stop you in the middle of a workout and correct any improper form so you don't hurt yourself. They won't push you to do more than you are capable of but they will help you reach your goals. They work around any injury you may have and give you stretches/exercises to help you overcome it. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful beyond belief. I don't know why I waited so long to join a CrossFit gym! Seems like my whole life I've worked on strength, or cardio, or flexibility, or nutrition, but never did I find a gym that made sure I focused on all of them at the same time. That's what CrossFit is about. I saw a Living Social deal so I thought, what the heck?! Steve, the owner, is very gracious and welcoming. He is very knowledgeable about his craft and took on the role of teacher and coach. At first I was having a hard time understanding the purpose of a foundations course, that is, until I showed up for my first session. Steve limits the number of students in the foundations course and I understand why! Ten newbies present all different levels of abilities and each person was given personalized attention. Some were very young, and others (ah hem) were aged like a fine wine. Steve and Zack taught us each exercise in proper form. One or two in the group had no weight lifting or functional exercise experience, but by the end of the foundations course, everyone had a lot of confidence because each person does the workout at their level of ability. As I was completing my first Fran WOD, the pull ups were modified to my ability level (OK, so I had a box to stand on and jumped the whole time!), but hey, who cares, I did it! I pumped out my reps and was coached and cheered throughout the duration of the WOD. At the end of our foundations classes, Steve talked to us about recovery and how to use lacrosse balls and a roller to release the muscle tension (also known as myofacscial release). That would have made for a great video, a bunch of people rolling around on the floor working out the kinks in our muscles saying ooh ah! We talked about nutrition and keeping our diets clean and well fueled to support the CrossFit workouts. I highly recommend this style of workout if you are serious about getting in shape. The support of other members in the box give you an attitude of if they can do it, so can I, so all you have to do is show up and you have succeeded! Is it easy? No! But when did anything great in life come easy? Well I guess there is always plastic surgery...but I enjoy the camaraderie and the endorphins too much, so I'll stick with CrossFit! After thought - Yelp is asking me to offer add'l tips on the business and one of them is "Is it good for kids?" Yes! They offer CrossFit classes for kids, which seem like a lot of fun if you have children. I don't know much else about it, but call them and inquire. read more

Due to time constraints for school I found CrossFit9 through some recommendations from my home gym and by the time I left 3 months later I was very sad to go. I was off in a corner working out on my own and everyone was always very respectful of anything I was doing and on the occasions I had the opportunity to join classes they were always welcoming. I've been a member of Crossfit9 since I moved to St. Pete in January. The community welcomed me with open arms and CF9 has definitely become my second home. Zack and Lindsay are amazing at running the gym and are constantly improving it with new and exciting programming and events. I was visiting my friend in St. Pete, and we went to CF9 for a Saturday morning workout. I have been to many CF gyms in last year and this is one of the top ones for me. I have to say that I really enjoyed the workout here. From the moment I walked in, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The owner is a very cool guy, kept the atmosphere very fun, but also took the workouts very seriously with his explanation and directions. The workout itself was great, very challenging, yet doable.
