Take all of the negative stereotypes that you may have heard about CrossFit gyms (called boxes) and…read morethrow them out the window. I've been going to CFR for a little over three months now, and I can't say enough good things about this place. I wanted to wait to write this review until I had been here awhile and could provide a less biased opinion. Some friends had been trying to get me to join for almost 6 months before I finally gave in and decided to give it a try. First off let me preface by saying that CFR is about as inexpensive as it comes when you're talking about CrossFit boxes, but that doesn't mean it's cheap. At $100/month, it's more than triple what I used to pay for my old globo gym (see my other reviews to find out who that was). For that price, though you get so much more than just a sterile environment where you go in, stick headphones on your ears and isolate yourself from the world for an hour or two. There is also a set of Elements classes that you have to take before you can take the regular CrossFit classes. These cost $50 ($55?) and you take three classes, where they introduce you to the basic movements associated with CrossFit, and have you do a WOD each class. CFR is a wide-open area with lots of barbells, a great pull-up rig, and....0 machines other than rowers. That's right; no ellipticals, no treadmills, no leg press. Get ready to use every stabilizer muscle that those machines have been hiding deep down in your body, because the free weights will expose them, and you will be sore at first. You'll learn to love the soreness associated with the WODs (Workout Of the Day). Dan & Heather, co-owners of CFR, are incredible people who genuinely care about each and every one of their members. Each of the coaches there have been amazing with helping individuals learn proper form on their lifts, and offering advice when it's needed. Not only have I lost weight & become much stronger since joining CFR, but I'm more confident in my body and what it can do. When I would lift in the traditional globo gym, I had babied my shoulders for years after previous injuries. When some lifts were added to the WODs that I wasn't sure I would be able to do, I wanted to try and to them at prescribed weight (RX). Even if I wasn't able to do them at the start, I would find a weight that I could do, and still to the RX movement at least. I had never been able to do traditional squats due to pain in my shoulder; had never dreamed about even attempting a handstand pushup, hadn't done a pull-up since I was in 2nd grade, and overhead squats, still the bane of my existence, were more of a nightmare than a pipedream. Now I squat more than my bodyweight; I've gotten a few handstand push-ups, can do multiple consecutive strict pull-ups, and while I struggle still with overhead squats, I can do them. Bring your water bottle, a positive attitude, and get ready to work your ass off with an amazing group of people, who will support you throughout your entire workout. The saying that best exemplifies CrossFit, and CFR in particular, "The only sport where the loudest cheers will be for the last to finish."

It's a couple miles out of my way, but what you get is definitely worth it. They will take the time with you if you are new to CrossFit to make sure you understand.

I've been going to this gym about 2 months and it is the best gym I've ever been to. My thing is…read moreclasses; I just can't seem to motivate myself to go unless someone will keep me there. I've done a few classes with Chris and Mims and they were a lot of fun. They both had great attitudes and made then class fun. Then last night I met instructors Reshonda and Jonika. Let me tell you I am having trouble typing this review my arms and shoulders are so swore. I did chisel with Reshonda and I loved her hyped. She didn't recognize me and asked my name, it's was nice she knows her class so well she can tell who is new. I have no upper body strength and chisel defiantly works on upper body. One of the things I like most about Reshonda was that she was big on form and tells people, including myself, when to drop weight. I would rather do something correctly 10 times with 10 pounds, then incorrectly 15 times with 15 pounds. She also said you succeed by failing, so keep going until you fail. Then I had Iron mat and TRX. Iron mat was a great workout and Jonika defiantly made it fun. She also gave us tons of modifiers for all levels. Then we moved on to TRX. I wasn't sure what this was, but thought I would check it out. Turns out I have done this before multiple times at my old gym they just called it something different. This contraption is a lot of fun for me, but it does freak some people out because you have to trust it with your full body weight. Jonika took her time to explain each move and encouraged people to trust it and demonstrated with each new move. I think she could tell I've done these before and was comfortable because she gave me new modifications to try.. and geez did they work. I had a hard time caring my water jug out of the building. Don't' let this review make you nervous that the classes are too hard, they're not! There were tons of people all ages and all body types. And each instructor gave multiple modifiers for each exercise. This classes are great if you've never been before and if you want an intense work out.

Tried to call the number on their "customer service" and it's a complete fake " not monitored" - and of course the local place is no help. Should've just stayed at Planet Fitness. What a waste of money. Oh good - and on top of all that - if you try to cancel your membership, they charge you yet another $35. I'll hand it to them - great for fitness, because I'm suggesting everyone run away.

Some things I love…read moreabout Jazzercise Gahanna that is hard to find in other workouts/places: -It's impossible to get bored with your workout because the music is continually refreshed with new routines. The music is current and the same as what you hear on the radio. -Each class is a FULL body workout. There is booty shaking dancing fun along with work with weights and/or bands. You'll find both physical AND mental benefits from each class! -You can take a Jazzercise class at any fitness level. I have taken classes before kids, during pregnancy and after kids. The instructors offer directions and move accommodations for any and all fitness levels. -There are SO many classes available throughout the week! I am always able to find a class that fits my schedule, even if it is just squeezing in a 30 minute class at lunch. -Nearly all of their classes are live streamed so I don't even have to leave my house to take a class. -The community of this studio sets it apart for me. I have always felt at home whether I am live streaming a class or taking the class in person. This is a studio that truly cares. There is NO judgment, just support for their members and guests. -The instructors here are phenomenal. The best of the best. Their classes are easy to follow, challenging AND fun! Jazzercise Gahanna is Jazzercise at its absolute finest! You won't be disappointed... but you may be hooked and find yourself happier in your workout than you have ever been before!

What's a 32 year old male doing reviewing Jazzercise? Who knows. A friend and colleague, Jenna,…read moreteaches classes here and a few coworkers (all male) decided to check it out. I felt a little déjà vu walking into the studio, similar to the first time I tried yoga. It was a feeling of embarrassment combined with the fear of actually dying on dance floor. Filling out waiver forms beforehand did not help the situation. Well it turns out there was nothing to be afraid of. We were the only ones who showed up (cold Sunday), so it turned out to be a private lesson of sorts. The class was fun and engaging. The 60 minute session flew by quickly. Jazzercise seems to be a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing. There was a lot of variety in the routine and I felt like all my major muscle groups were worked on. The non-stop music also helps you get into the routine. Even with two left feet, I was able to follow along (I think?) and the routines were not too complicated. It's also nice because you can sit out for a song or do fewer reps if necessary. Being with a group of friends/coworkers helped ease my transition into Jazzercise. To be honest, even with strangers, I think you would be hard-pressed to feel too self-conscious since you are too busy following the routine. Sure, Jazzercise may not be the manliest way to burn calories, but it's a damn good workout. You're pretty much constantly moving for 60 minutes. I am pretty sure i'll be sore in the morning. This Jazzercise center seems on the smaller side, but it's cozy and Jenna is awesome.

Travel for a living and worked out at this facility several times while home. Once between…read moreappointments I stopped by this facility (Gahanna) to workout. Logged in, as usual, and on my way to the machines was stopped and asked 'have you ever worked out at the Reynoldsburg facility?' Confused, I said: 'no sir, this is the only facility I use' and kept moving. The staff person then followed me to the machine and confronted me, sharing "I'm not trying to harass you, but you're membership is for the Reynoldsburg facility, you need to call them and transfer your membership here". Again, confused, I shared: "not sure what that's about, I'm a member here, this is the only facility I use....I'm pressed for time right now and would like to wok out...but I will call Reynoldsburg later to see what this is about". The Gahanna staff member insisted I stop working out and call Reynoldsburg. This was frustrating. Again, I've never been to a Reynoldsburg Location (didn't even know it existed). Nevertheless, I went back to the desk with him and said: 'ok, let's call". He then said: "Well I'm not authorized to call them, you have too--I can give you their number. " Again, this was frustrating: the staff person was not 'authorized to call' but was 'authorized to harass me'. Additionally, the staff person was not listening that this was the facility I use (and I was a bit miffed because there should be a record that I've come in a hand-full of times before)--clearly there was a miss. His computer I gathered said I was a member at Reynoldsburg--however, this could have been a glitch (maybe) or a user error (maybe), I'm not sure. What I am sure about is that I was treated like I was a criminal, was trespassing or stealing something. I am sure I'm a professional, a human being, and clearly a paid member of Planet Fitness. My point--there could have been alternative ways to handle this: (example)..a day pass, and 'ok, next time before coming in could you check, or let's call together and see if we can get this resolved...etc.... I left frustrated, without a workout, and a SERIOUS DISTASTE for Planet Fitness Gahanna. So much so, that I'm strongly considering moving to a competitor in the area. I'll be writing the management (and corporate with more detail). I hope this is not merely explained away in yelp about 'policy' or 'particularities' of membership. But rather an acknowledgment of HORRIBLE customer service and why I should even consider staying at PF and not taking my money to a competitor. I hope it also gives someone pause about working out or registering to workout in this facility in the future. To be fair if this is resolved I'll follow up with another review to say otherwise. P.S. I did call Reynoldsburg later about transferring membership. They sent me to a website to do it. However the website shared I could not do this online, but had to come into Reynoldsburg to transfer the membership. Again I've never stepped foot in the facility--nor do I intend to. I've only been to Gahanna (Facility A) the first time to register as a member--but was told, get this, "you need to go online to register and become a member here". So I'm sent online. I register online. I pay my money. I go back to Facility A. After working out several times, I'm confronted I'm not a member of Facility A and need to go to Facility B. Receive no help to transfer. Call Facility B--sent online-and told I have to come into Facility B to transfer to Facility A. This is 'circular dysfunction' and poor customer service. To readers--there's something seriously wrong with the Planet Fitness registration process. Staff members should also be better trained to help, and not harass members. We're your business lifeline and can take our business elsewhere.
