I been a member since August 2018 and can I just say .... joining was the best decision of my life. In the past I have done boot camps/CrossFit, so I was really hesitant about just doing full on CrossFit. I used to think that CrossFit was only for super fit people, but truly I found out that it was a lie. In CrossFit downriver there is a diversity of ages and levels. When I finally decided to join, I called and spoke to coach Kirk and told him I wanted to do a session (1st one is FREE, if u have never done CrossFit they have a 1:1 class to teach you all the moves, it does have a fee. Recommend because you don't want to hurt your self doing the wrong moves) My first day I was so scared but everyone was so welcoming and helpful ! And that is what drew me to join. They are a huge family and they welcome everyone ! Pros *All the coaches are great and knowledgeable! *huge variety of hours . *sometimes they have parties or get togethers. *they have a crossfit gymnastic class. *coaches help you figure out easier moves or lighter weights. *all ages and skill levels *they push you to finish but at the same time they cheer you on. *they post their workouts on their website and Facebook (I like to mentally prepare myself) *they always have their competition WOD. and their fitness WOD ( I do fitness and I sweat too much ) Cons- *none - well maybe being super sore after every class lol (but the pro is that is good for **************** With every work out I still die (no kidding)... but then I feel so relaxed and accomplished! I loved the work outs and enjoyed going. I recently lost my job though and can no longer afford the membership fee because I needed to make rent. I emailed them letting them know the situation and that I have not attended any classes this month so far, and hoping that they would be able to cancel the payment because I'm in such a sticky situation. I explained that I just needed to get back on my feet. They told me no, and that they could freeze my account for next month. I understand that when I signed up I was given a contract with a 30 day notice for canceling. But I also understood that when I signed up it was a family I was joining. I will no longer be attending in the future because of this situation. And I wish that they would be understanding enough to figure something out, so it wasn't a matter of CrossFit vs housing. We were visiting friends in Detroit and my wife needed to find a box that would be able to judge her for that weeks open workout. Emailed Kirk and he replied right away. I started with Crossfit downriver about 5 months ago and have never felt more motivated and cared for by all the trainers and owners Colleen Richards and Kirk Said. It's a family culture and every single level is welcome and encouraged to check them out. I am 56 with severe rhumatoid arthritis and have never felt better. I emailed Crossfit Downriver about dropping in and got a prompt response from Colleen who was more than happy for me to drop in. I had never dropped in at a box, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was awesome! Dropped in while staying at the Westin. Nice facility with lots of room. Nate was the coach and he seemed to focused on helping the members that were there. Class size was small which is nice compared to what I'm used to at home box. Definitely recommend stopping by if you are in town and close. read more

Dropped in here coming from Toledo on the way to the airport. I emailed the night before and got a prompt response, which I appreciated. The facility is amazing with about 6000 sq ft of space. They had high quality equipment and a nice waiting area. Kirk was extremely nice and welcoming. The class was only two others and me and everyone was super nice and friendly. Awesome coaches to get you motivated and help you achieve your goals and a wonderful atmosphere

I first brought my 2 boys for their youth program to keep them active in the winter months. Coach Helen is excellent with all the kids and has done wonders with their fitness levels. So, I decided to join also as I was a former athlete that got way, way out of shape. I had middle aged dad body and since I've been doing this for 2 months now, it has made major changes to my body in the way I look and feel. First month is hard but Coach Kirk works with you at your level and gradually builds you up with good technique and change up of core exercises. Great gym, great coaches. You just stop in and talk to coaches and they get you started with a flexible schedule and reasonable cost. read more
