They are good at teaching you the way they want you to do the punching and kicks. I don't really like the lighter free-standing bags as I have done a lot of work with heavy wall-mounted bags. They have some weights and a shower. They do a lot of cardio and its a big group class setting. Not sure if they do one on one sessions. Its a good place to check out if you want to get into cardio boxing on the North Loop. It's very clean and the staff is kind and helpful.

They also make everyone feel welcome. I've only been for Pilates classes but have been to several of them and loved them all. Pilates classes tend to draw a female crowd which can be intimidating but this studio couldn't be further from that. Everyone is welcoming, no one cares what you wear (Lulu who? Wear your favorite t-shirt), and every skill level is accommodated. They have 4 reformer machines so for classical reformer classes, they have 4 spots. I typically go over lunch and book ~5 days out and usually don't have an issue getting a spot. They use the MindBody app and have their own app as well so booking classes is easy! They use a waitlist and most times I've been on the waitlist, I get added to the class. The instructors mix things up and keep it interesting with fun music! I've been to reformer classes elsewhere with soft, soothing music and it nearly put me to sleep. Not here! Expect 80s jams from Jean, Lizzo from Andrea, and the Doobie Brothers (or Beyonce!) from Ruth. They have a Pilates Circuit class that combines the reformer, jump board, tower, chair, mat, TRX, and more. I haven't done the same workout in a Circuit class once. Circuit classes can have 12 (or maybe even 16) people in a class which is super fun and keeps the energy in class moving. The studio has cubbies for your belongings, a bathroom, towels, and a shower. They have a parking lot with maybe 10 spots and tons of parking spots along the street. I haven't had an issue with parking but they are next door to Psycho Suzi's so on a summer Saturday, give yourself extra time to park. Upstairs they have the "Treehouse" where they hold barre, Pilates, and yoga classes. The back wall of the studio is all windows that face the Mississippi. They also have the "Basement" where they have open gym and weight classes. They even have open gym times in the "Treehouse" with the Pilates equipment! Their prices are wonderful! Your first week is free so definitely try that. I did and 6 months later, am still going to classes. Your first month of unlimited classes is $59 which is INSANE for Pilates. Their memberships get you any class - reformer, yoga, kettlebells, whatever! PLUS unlimited access to open gym times. After the intro month, their prices and membership options vary but are still some of the most affordable options I've seen. They have a 12-class-a-month option for $135 which means each class is $11.25 - for reformer classes! I've seen studios charge $35 for one class. They host free outdoor workouts in the park, bike rides, and "Planks & Dranks" events at local bars. If you're looking for great workouts, a supportive workout community, and affordable classes, try a class at NE Fitness. I suggest the Pilates Circuit Class with Andrea to get you started. The staff was super friendly and helpful and I was able to work out a few days this week. The gym itself is ultra-clean, which has always been a priority for me but even more so in the age of covid. From a size perspective, North Loop Fitness is perfect for me: bigger than a typical trainer-only or crossfit gym, but smaller than a big box gym. The equipment is modern and well maintained and they have a strip down the middle of the gym for sleds (!). I wish, wish I could find an exact replica of this gym in Omaha.

I was in the camp of people who had never tried CrossFit, but I was a non-believer any way. Why would I join CrossFit if I can go to LifeTime & lift weights? What about all of those health & wellness articles taking over my News Feed about the risks of contracting rhabdomyolysis from CrossFit? Or what if I go & everyone laughs at me because I can't squat more than a 33lb bar? Embarrassment might be worse than rhabdo! To all of you who also have these thoughts, I say: FEAR NOT. I'm wrapping up the nine-class on ramp this Friday, & I couldn't be more excited to officially become a part of the CFEP community. (I say that now, but after my first WOD & another 100+ burpees, I'll probably be regretting that statement.) CFEP is insanely professional & above all else it values safety. The on ramp has challenged me because many of the movements are new to me, or I'm re-learning exercises that I thought I knew correctly, but in reality I've been doing them wrong on all along. (And as a four year college athlete, that's embarrassing to admit.) Justin has been my on ramp coach & he is a rock star -- friendly, fun, & encouraging. Curt, a co-owner with his wife, makes a point to drop in & cheer for our group in between the work outs that he leads. I think that says a lot that a co-owner makes an effort to check in on his new recruits! Even as a beginner, you are made to feel like one of the family at CFEP. I like to giggle at myself when I'm especially weak and struggle thru workouts. Alex allows me to laugh at myself and I really appreciate it. Naturally, in the beginning I wanted to see results right away. Alex taught me to trust the process. I used to think the gym was too expensive but since working out, I've cut out fast food which really made up for the gym expenses. haha I really can't imagine giving up my gym time with Alex. He kicks me butt and it hurts so good. :)
