Not a bad gym at all for your daily workouts; has most of the essentials a person needs. However, I can't say much for the hygiene part... not cleaning/wiping down after using the equipment appears to be a normalized culture here (even planet fitness cleans up). The best thing about this gym is the staff--very friendly and welcoming. Can't say much about the classes, pool, sauna, ordering drinks, and the basketball courts.. maybe those will improve my view of this gym. read more

Overall, the staff and faculty is amazing. It's clean, has a snack bar, and equipment is easy to locate. Well organized. However, the black manager with braids could be friendlier and much more focused on the business rather than his cellphone. If you have an LA fitness membership, GO to this location! Seriously, I've been to a few other locations around the area and the Edina one is perfect. Once you go to this one you won't want to go to any other one. Another plus, they just renovated it. To start with, do you ever try a machine and mid rep, you make eye contact with someone or you just feel like everyone's staring? That's because you're gym is too small or the machines are too close. The machines here are spaced out. So much room to breath. Plus, you usually aren't waiting for a machine. There's more than one of a lot of them. They also have a juice bar at this location. I have grabbed one of the smoothies a few times and it's always tasty. Staff are always friendly and not over the top. Overall, love this gym and won't go to any other one read more

The gym equitment is nice. Some employees are pretty rude and just want to play on their phones. The basketball court is an ice rink. Its so dirty and the hours are absolutly horrible. I understand a shooting happened here but why tf would you make the hours so bad. Just make security better. The front desk is a joke any weirdo or bozo with bad intentions could just walk in. This gym need a some major work on the managment side of things. I hope things get better at some point. read more

If there was a 0 star I would give it to this place. Front desk people allow people without checking in. All these people go play at the basketball court and then get in fights just recently there was a shooting and yesterday 10/23/2024 there was a fight inside and outside the gym. If you appreciate your safety, don't go there. The police was called but didn't do anything about because the fight had stopped and did not kick anyone inside.... read more

Used to be my favorite location but the manager just isn't the best. She is constantly trying to sell the fact that they have all of these things included and sooo much cheaper than Lifetime. I referred some friends to come here for a tour to switch from Lifetime and they felt like she was just trying to cut down Lifetime fitness and be like oh LA fitness includes this and this for this cheap price! I get that you gotta promote and sell but come on.. don't make it cheapy sounding. This gym gets insane and out of control in evenings, to the point where you can barely even use anything. The flow is not the greatest here and there are often bottlenecks. The sauna is never super hot and it is a little smaller than other locations. Also, a lot of staff are constantly walking around and playing basketball and socializing not doing their job. I have officially switched to a different LA fitness just because I'm good on this one. read more

Shooting absolutely could have been avoided and was surprised that after several days LA Fitness hadn't made any public statement about the shooting. When I called to ask if they'd be implementing any type of security measures or protocols as a result of the shooting, the person I spoke to was unaware a shooting had even taken place. While thankfully nobody was hurt, I'm definitely traumatized and should not feel unsafe at the gym. I never thought I'd see a gun aimed at someone while I was at the gym, and I certainly never thought I'd have to run for my life at the gym either. If you are handicapped and want to be told by the manager that you can't ask people who are parked in a handicapped spot to display their permit. Then this is the place for you. Tonight I was asked someone, that was parked in a handicapped spot, if they had their permit, because it was not displayed. I was told that it was ok because he had one and he worked there. I asked him to display it then. He told me to mind my own business. The manager of the location happened to be outside and he came over and told his employee everything was OK. The manager then told me that I was NOT ALLOWED to ask people if they had their permits, in his parking lot. read more

Ahhhhhhh, the endless gym membership dilemma in the Twin Cities: LA Fitness or Lifetime? I have been a member at both, and on the whole, I still choose LA over Lifetime. Basically, it boils down to chasing paper. Errrr, saving paper? At $30/month for the "Friends and Family" discount - which any potential member can obtain at any time of the month, with a bit of persistence - this place can't be beat. I can hit any of their 12 locations in the Twin Cities (plus the 5 more that will be coming on board with the Bally's acquisition); whereas Lifetime has their bothersome tiered membership options (something about silver, gold, platinum, bronze and other precious metals). And after Medica (or most other major medical insurance carriers) comps me w/ 20 bones for getting up in the gym 12 times a month, we're looking at a $12.31 gym membership. So I really can't complain at all. However................. This Edina location has some unfortunate flaws, at least when compared to the Roseville location (my favorite LA in the Twin Cities). The parking is a nightmare, the place is crowded beyond belief (and it's not even New Year's Resolution Season yet!!), and the staff's friendliness is hit or miss. On the plus side, if you're single and ready to mingle (and really who isn't?), the Edina location has a lot of young, toned bods. But let's be honest, you don't want to be that one dude in the Zumba class. Or maybe you do. In spite of the higher ratio of Meatheads (I can say that because I am 50% Meathead / 50% Lover of The Current) at LA vs. Lifetime, I have found people at LA to generally be a friendlier bunch than Lifetime members. A few other things to remember: 1) Bring your own pad lock for the lockers. 2) Bring your own towels. 3) No wet sauna. They do have dry saunas, though. 4) Bring your own HGH. read more

Taking multiple machines not being used, taking up other machines moving other areas around pointlessly. This location focuses on money making over equipment and member experience. I have been with LA Fitness for little over 6 years now and had personal trainers and have been great, until now. I have recently had to have emergency surgery back in March of 2021. I have contacted them the day after I had my surgery and told them what had happened and how I won't be able to have my personal trainer at this time and not sure when I will be able to get clearance to go back. I have submitted to LA Fitness a doctors note stating that I am unable to workout till further notice. LA fitness has responded and told me everything is good and to call when I am ready. Now it's August and they have been charging me $165 a month since April. I have call and spoke to many of their employees and the managers and the one who hung up on me, his name is Chris. He works in Edina. I have also contacted Hopkins LA Fitness They all refused to help me and told me Aaron, who is the president of their company is the only one that can refund me my money. It's been 5 months and no return calls. I told them I will call my lawyer if this issue doesn't get resolved. All I want is my $825 refunded back to me. I'm in lost of words right now. This is very unprofessional, especially as easy as it could have been handled. NEVER sign a contract with LA Fitness. They will screw you and make you feel like it's your fault. Never going back! So sad because I did like it there. New owners and management is HORRIBLE and UNPROFESSIONAL! read more

I am a Lifetime transplant... and maybe that's why I'm so snotty about my gyms. Sure sure sure, you'll hear about the lower costs of LA Fitness, but here is a list of my gripes that you should probably take into consideration: -You have to bring your own locks for your lockers. -The parking lot kinda sucks at this one. -Your membership dues pay for usage of the racketball courts... even if you never play racketball or have a need for these courts. -The pool here is pretty tiny. -Not a lot of mats you can use to stretch out on. -Not everyone has the common courtesy to wipe down their machines after usage. -The santinizing stations = you take a few papertowels and pump purrell on 'em. -NO TOWELS. Here's the best part.... ready? "I'm giving you free childcare with your membership. If I didn't do this, you'd have to pay another 10 to 30 dollars a month. But I'll give it to you for free." "Uhhh, so why am I swiping my card for one dollar a month to LA fitness on top of my monthly dues." "Oh. That's cause I can't give it to you for completely free. Just mostly free." WTeff? Yes, it's one dollar... but then that's NOT free. Oh, and take note - I just got off the phone with the particular location about my membership. Not helpful at all, "you are getting a really good discounted deal, but you're paying that much because you got a deal on your initiation fee." Not really a deal, buddy, if you make up the costs somehwere else. I'm such a fool. Sure, this place is great for just the basics (and the Uptown location is close to my apt), but I'm ready and on edge to keep paying an extra $20/month for ambiance, respectful people, towels, someone who actually checks me in and greets me at the door, hot tubs IN the locker room, locks, pools, mats, bathrooms that aren't by the sauna (so I'm not sweating while peeing), pre-sanitized wipes, and most importantly... not almost free childcare. read more

Bam-ba-lam! Finally a gym close by that I don't have to wait 10-20 minutes for cardio equipment!!! Whoot whoot! Also, they have 3 squat racks, 2 separate cable towers (SLP has one) they have hammer strength equipment here... Oh how I have missed good equipment!! It's not scary busy, clean and about twice as much equipment was the location in SLP. They also have about 2x's the free weights as SLP and Uptown. Locker rooms are spacious!!! read more

I joined this gym solely because of location (right down the street from my office), but I have been pretty satisfied. I have never had to wait for a cardio machine. The staff aren't really that helpful unless you are paying extra for personal training, but they were nice enough to break my padlock once when I forgot the combination... Monthly fees are around $35, and the signup fee is pretty hefty but they have special offers every few months I believe (I paid only half the original $400 signup fee). There is also a pool w/ hot tub, basketball court, and racquetball, none of which I have used yet. There are aerobics, kicboxing, spinning classes as well. I kindof want to try the Tai Chi actually. read more

Ok, I agree on all accounts of parking, cleanliness (or lack thereof) and the social aspects of the LA Fitness Edina location. I keep on a coming because it is a stones throw from my job, and, well, lets face it, I hate traffic on 494 so 6am is so much more enjoyable to drive than 7:30. One thing I haven't seen on these accounts is the hot shower problems in the morning. Obviously, when you work out before work, there are going to be a lot of people taking showers. I have taken many, many cold showers at this joint because their water heaters suck. It's easier to take in the summer when you immediately start sweating again after turning off the water. But when it's 10 degrees outside, it sort of starts to grate on you. The girl who works the front desk in the morning should get a raise for all of the complaints she is faced with. The manager of this place needs to come in at 6am and take an icey cold shower every day. Then maybe we would see some improvement. I will still keep going, as I am a glutton for punishment and the people who work out there in the morning are a friendly bunch. read more

Joined when they opened a couple years ago, and it has been ok. It is getting more crowded, but for the most part I get to the equipment I need. The free wight area is pretty well spaced out, which is nice, and there are enough plates for the equipment. They could use some bigger dumb bells though. Worst kids club! Neglectful and disrespectful! I am so upset with my experience at this location. I was called back to the kids club because my daughter was crying. I walk in the room to find her crying in the corner of the room by herself with the sitter with her back to her playing a video game with another child. She didn't even bother to talk to me when I walked in the room. I pulled my kids out and went to talk to a manager. He got defense and told me I didn't know what happened and she probably needed a break! I was maybe gone 15. They definitely don't know how to care for children! read more

I tried out this place last year when I had a free one-week pass and that Brendan dude still keeps calling me every now and then, even though I belong to another gym :-( During my free trial, this seemed like an OK gym. Plenty of weightlifting equipment and spacious locker room. Bring your own towel, shampoo, and lotion. I did not try out the pool so I cannot speak to that, but it smells chlorine-y from what I could smell of it while in the locker room. There is a high school swim team that practices here, so if you swim you might want to keep that in mind when scheduling your swim times. I liked the group fitness classes: tried out Body Works Plus Abs and Zumba (both were 4:30 classes). Body Works + Abs was TOUGH and Zumba was fun. Not gonna lie, I do partially judge gyms by how cute the dudes are and the ones that I saw here during my free trial were ok, but I wasn't extremely impressed. That's not the main point of going to the gym, but it's a nice bonus for coming in and working hard, I think. Provides some motivation for a girl to keep coming back to the gym to pump iron. Oh, they have a juice bar at this gym too, so you can get smoothies! read more

When it comes to working out, I like taking the simplistic approach. All I need is some metal to pick up and put down and a hamster wheel to run in place on. I don't have any of this at my home so I come here. I was able to get an insanely good deal on a membership, and they have everything I would possibly need. I don't talk much when I work out, but the people I have talked to have been very pleasant. I have been a member at Lifetime before and the main difference is in the presentation of the gym with Lifetimes nice cobbled stone and wooden paneling. The contents of the gym are much the same. My only complaint is there are not enough squat racks (but at least I haven't seen anyone curling at the ones that are there) and there aren't any deadlift platforms, which I am aware is very nitpicky. While the cost is just right ($29.95 but $9.95 with the health insurance discount) the cleanliness and the customer service is less to be desired. Now I've had a couple of friendly staff members but the interactions with the manager has been horrible. I just reinstated my membership but was charged 1st and last month's in order to do so. When the manager called to talk to me about this, I was told "every gym has this policy. We're talking about essentially $30 - does that really matter." And my favorite was "you can cancel your membership right now & I'll refund you the money." I hadn't been calling about canceling - just inquiring why I was charged 1st and last. I haven't decided what I'm going to do now. I may stay just for the convenience since there is a location right by my work and my house. There's nothing really bad about this place but nothing spectacular either. My home club is in SLP but I've gone to this location a few times after work since it's the closest to my office. Getting into the parking lot can be a hassle since there's really only one way in and out. The area with the most stalls is in the back of the club; although there are people who will wait in the front entrance (blocking traffic) just to get a spot near the club door. Parking aside, the layout of the club is standard with all the cardio machines lined up parallel with weight machines. Free weights are towards the street side of the club and run perpendicular to the cardio area making a mostly "L" shaped club. On a side note, this is the only LA Fitness club (that I've been to) which has the guys' locker room entrance before the women's...so keep that in mind before you embarrass yourself like I almost did my first time here. read more

For the price, it's right-on. It's a gym, so it sucks in January (damn you, resolutioners), but for the most part I've never had problems getting a machine. The parking lot is nuts, and they run out of paper towels all. the. time. Oh and I sometimes prefer the Uptown location because this one has a handful of TVs, ten miles away from the machines, and no control on the selection, and they NEVER play any primetime shows (seriously, it's CNN or E!... ugh).... but other than that, It's a good place for the price. :) The locker room is beautiful. The place is HUGE. And I rarely ever see "out of order" machines. Could be worse! read more

What is YOUR Workout? If it is heavy on free weights, this gym will work for you. I've been lifting for 20 years, and LA has more free weights than Lifetime; I was a member of NW when Lifetime bought them out and did the remodeling. If you need a spa, hair salon, and a cute cafe, you aren't going to workout anyway. You like to say you went to the gym, but not really workout. This gym wouldn't be for you. If cardio is your thing, LA has more than enough, even during peak hrs. If you only like machines, they have all the major ones, but Planet Fitness & Lifetime are basically all machines. And machines are better than setting on your couch, but not much. Need a mixture of all three. I've never had a problem with the staff. Like any gym, the trainers are going to be hit or miss. I've witnessed both at all 3 gym brands. If a trainer has you doing something you don't like, speak up. Being a trainer doesn't mean they automatically know fitness, nutrition, or solid workout plans. Most do. Some are just idiots. And the locker rooms are fine. Look: The people who are giving LA low ratings should be going to a different gym. I doubt they like to sweat & really wish they could get a latte while at the gym. Fine. But if you want to sweat, get stronger, improve your cardio, shed some lbs., etc., LA will be just fine for you. read more

My trainer Nelson Zepeda is amazing, he pushes you as hard as you need to be pushed. He tells you what you need to eat and help a you get on a diet plan. The training director Rico is great as well, he is helping me stay in track with my diet and making sure I come in when I need to. So far this location is great! read more

I joined when they opened back in November 2007 and it was clean and well-kept. Almost two years later it pales in comparison. I used to see a cleaning crew in there every day cleaning the showers, locker room and equipment - they must have laid off the cleaners because I haven't seen one in several months. The equipment is adequate and the location works for me - if they'd just keep it cleaner it could be four stars. I'm contemplating moving to another gym. Oh, as a side note they don't have towel service. When I joined in 2007 they said they were going to have it in a few months. Just last month I overheard another sales person telling a potential customer they were going to have towel service in about a month - you might have better odds with the Powerball. read more
