Once my month was up I was hooked. Along with setting some personal nutrition goals I have lost 28 lbs and gained muscle. My hubby has lost 30 and gained muscle. We both feel so great. We can do everyday tasks with ease that used to make us winded. It has changed our life and we plan to continue to use this gym for years to come. Our favorite part is that we go three times per week for about an hour and we get stretching, strength training that is mixed with cardio (pretty legit) and there are usually at most 5 people in our group. For the most part there are usually around 3 or 4 including us. The trainers that we have worked with are motivating and push us but while we are working hard we are usually laughing our butts off (literally). It makes the workout go by so fast and makes us want to come back. Cindy at the front desk is always smiling and ready to greet you when you walk in. The owners are great and hard working. They are ALWAYS on site. That is usually the key to a great local business. They have just expanded the gym to make room for a great area for the group training classes. The entire staff is always smiling and saying hi and having a positive upbeat attitude. That helps a lot on days you don't feel like being there yourself. We always leave in a better mood. We have had to travel before and there was no problem putting our membership on hold. They just need to know in advance your dates and they are very accommodating. I highly recommend this place. It is more than just a gym for us. It has helped us develop a lifestyle we hope to continue for the rest of our lives. When I became a Chef about 6years ago I put on a lot of weight. Eventually another gym member opened the door for me. I went over to the trainer and asked about getting a membership. He seemed annoyed but walked to the desk to start the process. I tried making small talk and mentioned I was checking out different gyms in the area but there weren't many options. He said, "There are plenty of options, just maybe not what you're looking for." I told him I'm a powerlifter and just need a place where I can squat, bench, and deadlift. He looked up from the computer and said, "Your kind aren't welcome here." I asked what he meant, and he said powerlifters are loud, disrespectful, and bang weights. He told me if I wanted to lift like that I should go to Silverback or Fortis instead. Then he asked, "Are you going to buy a membership or not?" I said I wanted to quickly look up Fortis and see if it was any good. He responded, "I don't have time for you," and stormed off. So I left and didn't buy a membership. It's pretty disappointing to be judged like that. Treating people like that when they're just trying to sign up for a gym isn't right. You shouldn't judge a whole group of people just because you had one bad experience in the past. I ended up going to Fortis Fitness and had a great experience there. After the warm up fun we went through some great Snatch progression to ensure that our class was on point with with our form. I'm always happy to cover the ins and outs of lifts that we will be doing in our workouts; performing these drills makes me realize that for so many years I've been lifting all wrong and with no true guidance. Jacks hospitality was top notch and only surpassed by his coaching ability I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in town. I highly suggest that if you are interested in becoming a healthier better "you" that you make Crossfit Above the Bar your first stop.

Crossfit Above The Bar was the only one of three gyms that I called and/or emailed that actually contacted me back. So they were the winner and I'm feeling really lucky that's where I ended up because it was such a great experience. Jack greeted me and got me set up quickly, then introduced me to Gabby and asked her to pair up with me and show me around. It was Saturday so we did a team WOD and it was a great workout. Everyone at this gym was so friendly and hospitable... I can't say enough about how great they were. Sometimes it can be a challenge just to walk into a box and feel like you're part of the crew, but that was not the case. From now on, when I'm in town visiting family I will make Crossfit Above the Bar my gym away from home.

I need access anytime I have to fit in my schedule and do not like limitations. Second, I have a lot of specific equipment pieces that I particularly look for in my training program and if a gym is lacking something I need I won't sign up. This gym has about 90% of what I like in one place and I can manage to adapt my routine around that. I love that it's a small gym but has a ton of equipment packed in there. Less people at certain times is my third favorite thing. They take care of the equipment and repairs if something is broken and they clean it a lot as well. I love David's personality and his patriotic spirit they decorated for the 250th and also fun holidays bringing a fun atmosphere to train in. I love it there.

This place is a NIGHTMARE. I have been trying to cancel my…read moremembership and get a refund for months now. The manager herself Reyna, signed me up over the phone. She told me verbatim, that "since the last time I was a member (last year), the cancelation policy has changed and its a lot better now! It used to be so awful to get out of, now you can cancel at any time with no penalties." Which I then clarified, because last time I remember it being a huge headache to cancel my membership at this gym when I had to abruptly move out of town. Two months later when I attempt to cancel my membership because- 1. they are charging me $131 for my first month $99.99/$69.99 a month membership 2. there is never any staff at the gym for me the physically sign a membership agreement (still haven't done that by the way) 3. they never return phone calls no matter how many "messages they leave for the manger" or however many emails you send 4. how dirty and smelly the saunas are I was told by Reyna the manager that I need to be billed SIX TIMES before they will cancel my membership!! I then explained that when I signed up they told me I can cancel anytime without any penalties. Which I was then rudely met with, "I am aware, I was the one who signed you up." They she told me that they will not be canceling my membership "because that will get her in trouble." But I guess lying to members as long as it gets them to sign up is okay at this location. I was then given the email for Reyna's boss, Bianca. Whom I have emailed twice and haven't received a response from. I attempted to cancel in mid October and they just now emailed me a cancelation agreement, but refuse to answer me about a the refund they owe me. I am still getting billed $131. Avoid this place at all costs, I have the paper trails to prove it. ****EDIT: After months of back and forth they finally agreed to give me a refund for in the exact words of the General Manager Bianca something that was, "100% their fault for adding on the family member, and was a mistake on their part." After waiting and wondering where the refund was as I never received it, I reached back out only to be informed that they "paused my refund because she read my review afterwards!". Yep, you head that right. They are not giving me my money back, for something that they have admitting to being "100% their fault" (in writing mind you), because I left them a bad review. For things exactly like this. I requested the owners contact information, and their legal teams and have yet to hear anything. ****
