When I found out I was pregnant, I had just left my job and had no insurance. I was so flustered…read moreand had no idea how I was going to receive proper medical care for my baby. I knew I needed an ultrasound at around 8 weeks, which was coming so quickly. When I went to church that weekend, the Pastor passed around pamphlets for a pregnancy center called Spero. The pamphlet mentioned free prenatal care that I could get for my baby, so I decided to book an appointment with them. Spero was a HUGE blessing to my life. The center was very clean and secure. The staff was so friendly and caring. The woman who helped me out was named Leann I believe, and she was just so kind. She took me into a room to talk to me about my pregnancy options, and even spoke to me about adoption and abortion, which I thought was so inclusive of them, since they are a Christian center- I didn't expect them to be open and willing to discuss those kinds of options with me. We discussed everything that I needed to talk about, my pregnancy, my personal life, how/when/where to pursue future medical care, etc. I was gifted a folder filled with soooo many resources, like a list of medications I could/couldn't take, different pamphlets about everything I would need to know in regards to my pregnancy, my relationship, my religious journey, etc. I was also given a gift box with goodies for myself and baby, which was such a touching moment for me- I had no family or friends for support at the time, and it was so heartwarming to receive my first maternity gifts. Leann gave me my first ultrasound and was able to determine if my pregnancy was in the proper place, approx. how far along I was, etc. and gave me so much peace of mind during a time when I felt so afraid and alone. Spero also had a male tech who spoke with my spouse in a different room about his own feelings and plans, which I thought was so impressive, because most OB/GYNs seem more focused on mom and baby than on dad. In addition to the incredible emotional and medical help I received from Spero that day, they also sent out recommendations to different resources that I needed, such as MDHS, WIC, Bible study classes, etc. I honestly was overwhelmed with trying to find and utilize these resources myself, and it was a MASSIVE weight off of my shoulders that Spero sought out all these people for me. Spero also has an incredible program where you can earn "Spero bucks" for attending prenatal/parenting classes and Bible studies, which you can then use towards things like diapers, clothing for mom and baby, even car seats. Spero is an absolutely incredible resource that EVERY community should have, they are the epitome of a community help center that provides real support, resources, and change for those who are in need. Spero has been a godsend to my life, and I would recommend them to anyone who is feeling overwhelmed with finding out about their pregnancy and doesn't know where to start. I could not have asked for a more compassionate, caring, loving, and generous start to my pregnancy. God bless Spero and all of the staff involved, you have made such a difference in my life and the lives of many other families in the community. I would give 100000 stars if I could.

If you are pregnant or already a mom, this is a great resource for you. When you come in for intake…read moreyou will be asked questions about you and your baby. They will gove you some "homework" to help you determine which path you want to study and learn. Homework will earn you baby bucks. If you come in without your children, you earn more baby bucks to spend in their store. This is to encourage you to get out and find time for yourself. If you can only come by bringing your child/children then you just earn less baby bucks. You do have to come in once a month and bring in your homework which earns you more baby bucks. Baby bucks can be redeamed in the store. They have clothing for $0.50 if gently used or $5 brand new with tags. They have bibs, sheets, blankets. There are shoes. They have tons of baby food and formula. They also had body care items such a lotions, shampoo, or diaper cream. They is a small room with bigger items such as swings or play mays and toys. They also provide you with diapers and wipes when you come in. They allow you to take a free book every time you come in as well. They also have mothership which is similar to mops once a month at a Church. This earns you a lot of baby bucks, especially of you come without children. They do have some child care available but again it's really meant to give you time away from your kids to talk to other moms. They provide food as well. Overall, this is a great resource to get help with baby resources. It helps encourage you to gain new friendships with moms. Some moms at the meeting have been with compassion for years. A lot of the moms at mothership dont go to counseling anymore but they still attend mothership because they have older kids and dont need the baby bucks anymore.
