Carly, Kat, Paul, forgive me if I forgot your name! $60, Choose Your Own from their Gallery online, otherwise Choose Your Own with Personalization (Family Name, Family Member Names, Surname, Children's Names, Couple Names, etcetera). BYOB & BYOG (Grub). 2 hour class typically, but sometimes have to stay late! (When your are a perfectionist.) I had a better time here + was more satisfied with the finished product than when Paint & Sip classes. Likely due to the fact that the pieces are much more personalizable, plus takes less inherent artistic talent for inept artists like me. You can of course see great representations in their Gallery section online, but if you are by chance in the area before choosing, seeing them in person is always a better perspective. Also need to book at least 72 hours in advance so they can prepare your stencil. Had the price been a bit less, I would do this a few times a year! (That might be a tad much to ask, unfortunately!) Whatever you do, the No. One rule is to have a fest of fun, a gaggle of giggles, and loads of laughs. They make that easy to do here!

Their popularity is a result of people searching for peaceful outlets to indulge their creative endeavors. Corazones on Fire, "Painting with a Cultural Edge" is an amazing art space in the Deco District that recognizes our need for us to connect artistically. It is located right across the street from Pancake Joe's on Donaldson Street. The space itself is quite charming with a colorful lighting that makes you feel welcome. Deborah Kuetzpal Vasquez, a visual arts professor at Our Lady of the Lake and Bianca Sapet both owners welcome you also and lead you through the process. A painting area is designated for you with all the necessary items that you will use for the night: easel, an apron, paints, brushes, cleaning glass and of course a canvas with a stenciled graphic of the evenings theme. I must confess my painting skills are to a minimal. Rembrandt, Picasso I certainly am not. However Deborah noticing my initial nervousness came up to my table and said, "You'll do just fine." As you are taken through the painting project all your senses are being engaged. One thing that I really appreciated was the excellent playlist playing throughout the night. Music by Malo, Juan Gabriel, Julieta Venegas, The Cardigans and even an impromptu song by Bianca made the experience even more memorable. Another detail I liked were the historical art lessons you are given while painting. For example it was interesting to learn that Pre-Columbian Civilization used natural occurrences to explain human behaviors. Thus the evenings themed piece of the Huitzil Hummingbird and the Xochitl Flower wasn't really about a bird nor a flower but was a metaphor for "mating." I would be remiss if I didn't include that it is BYOB. Other patrons brought wine, some sort of liquor and snacks. But after a few of my trusty beers the paint brush was feeling mighty limber and loose. All and all I had a memorable experience. Professor Vasquez is an amazing instructor who walks you through every step, from start to finish. She is very patient but encourages you to find your own artistic voice. This place is perfect for novice painters like me, would be awesome for a date night or for the person who just wants to reconnect creatively in a relaxed atmosphere. ps. At the end of night you take a group picture with your painting. Lucky for me I hid in the back to cover up my artistic shortcomings.

I'm not an expert (nor did I expect to walk out as Picasso), but thanks to our amazing instructor Gizelle, I was able to create a pretty close version of the sugar skull in honor of El Día de los Muertos. Gizelle's friendly and professional approach made the class so enjoyable. Her step-by-step guidance was clear and easy to follow, and she gave us plenty of time between steps to relax, laugh, and sip . She offered helpful tips--like how to get just the right shade of each color--and walked around giving everyone a little boost of confidence and encouragement. She even played great music to keep the energy up, and it was so fun and easy to listen! I had an amazing time with a great group of ladies and can't wait to go back for another class. I highly recommend this location and the instructor for a fun, creative, and social activity to enjoy with family and friends. Mrz_B https://www.paintingwithatwist.com/studio/sanantonio-nw/
