My son attended from 1st to 4th grade and always had amazing grades. There had been a few concerns I had with the school over the years, but he was happy, so I ignored them. After a former staff member who I trusted fully, told me that children were not truly getting the education they deserve here, we left the school. Unfortunately, we found out they were right. After switching to a public school my child is failing in almost all subjects. It has been a huge struggle to catch him up educationally, and I feel a huge sense of regret that I hadn't listened to my gut sooner. There were no signs of him struggling at Crown. Multiple reviews have stated that Crown alters theirs students grades simply for the school's own reputation. I now believe that to be true. Some of the teachers we met along the way were WONDERFUL, so I do believe this is a higher up issue and not the fault of the individual teachers, which is the only reason for 2 stars instead of 1. They are probably being instructed to do things a certain way, which is also why this school has a very high turnover rate. I noticed teachers leaving and being replaced pretty much every year. If you love your kids and care about their education, please stay away from this scam of a school. I really wish I had. read more

The kindergarten and first grade teams at this school are amazing, we also loved Mr Dan. Once Mrs Lydia left the front office everything unfortunately seemed to go downhill. Fourth grade and up is a nightmare. Now that we are at another school and I see just how much Crown Charter is lacking. The communication with parents is very poor, the revolving door of staff also makes it difficult for students. Having credible staff that can actually teach art and P.E. should be a requirement. The same lady that makes the lunches is also teaching Spanish and Art. Don't get me wrong she is a nice lady but she certainly isn't qualified to be teaching art. She puts up YouTube videos and tells the kids watch the video as her art lesson. They need to take some of the money they are receiving from these students and make some major upgrades to the school. Utilizing the technology out there to communicate with parents is something they should look into. We are happy that the school we switched to not only has a safety officer on site but there are also paramedics and a school nurse which brings us a lot of peace and comfort. My daughter was pushed into a desk at Crown Charter and smashed her head in class. I was never informed and she came home with a big bruise on her head. I obviously contacted the school and the teacher called me to apologize but the reality is these teachers are overworked and have too many children in their class. The kids aren't getting the quality of education they deserve because of the class sizes and lack of resources. One of the 4th grade teachers just screams at her students all day long...super toxic, and ropes the other teachers into her drama which affects the way they treat students. Honestly, they need some upgrades and a complete staff overhaul if they want to become a sought after school. If you're looking for some better schools in the area I would look into Heritage or Luke Elementary. Praying Crown Charter makes some much needed changes so that the kids who do attend get the quality of education they deserve. Their only saving grace at this point is their before and after care which is why parents feel forced to send their kids here. read more

I am actually really pleased with crown. it took me a while to decide on a school for my kindergartener since i didnt want a full 8 hour day. they offer a reduced schedule from 8-1:30(which to me is perfect for such small kiddos) plus they accept kids that dont meet the bday threshold of turning 5 at public schools before september 1. she initially struggled with separation anxiety but was doing awesome academically so the principal and teacher allowed her to have a further reduced schedule until she adjusted. after christmas break she was a different kid. she loved it. she loves her teacher so much. they also have a ton of fun events like fall festivals, field days, field trips and school dances. Academically I'm even more satisfied. it is march and my daughter is reading pretty fluently, knows about 500 words, is doig quadruple digit math, and has jsut grown tremendously. their curriculum seems to be pretty good(i dont have much else to compare it to but my daughter has learned tons!) they give homeowrk everyday, which i like bc they need to practice to fortify the teachings. the only complaint is i wish i was able to communicate directly with the teacher instead of leaving messages at the front office but aside from that i will be returning next year. read more

Some great people in any batch of people you look at. Unfortunately the bad ones or ones that don't care seem to ruin it for everyone else. The recent incident included falsely accusing my son of a very major claim but somehow didn't feel to call or gave me apart of the parent teacher conference with the other parents with the so called students involved. However, they have no problem calling me for a small cut on a finger or something way less severe. It seems the teacher may be over her limit with having 33 students in one classroom and the stress of having to handle a new student. I will say the kindergarten and first grade teacher was amazing and my daughter loved her. However, I will not support such accusations toward my child or support a school that wouldn't even take a full investigation before accusing someone. read more

My daughter went to this school from 2019 Kindergarten to 3rd grade (2023) She was an early admission kindergartner, and brought in "A's" and "B's" every year. However, 3rd grade (2022-2023) was the most awful experience. Between teachers coming and going, and lunch ladies acting as substitutes. In winter 2022 the school had the nerve to call a 3rd grade parents meeting to give excuses on how they got an F rating for 2021-2022 school, and that they are relying on 3rd graders and above to not get a "F" rating. For 3 months prior to the state tests, they crammed and stressed out 3rd graders to learn reading, writing and math they should have been learning all along. For her 4th grade year, we transferred her to a new school and she is behind the other students in her grade. I feel awful that we waited until 3rd grade to do this. My words of advice, Steer clear away from this school. They are creating a "new" private school and expanding their grade levels. They are going private so they don't have to teach to the standards of the state. read more

I was a student from a few of the grades (I am NOT going to say any of the grades; or much at all, the methods they'd use to find me are INSANE) and I'm going to be fair; the people that run this school are the Kenneth Copeland of schools. Genuinely felt bad for some teachers, they practically get 'fired' (unsure but I find it EXTREMELY shady) for giving students rewards for doing difficult tests like a short movie, but nope; they don't fire this one teacher I had during a grade that gave an assignment asking for our PERSONAL INFORMATION?? my mind is kind of foggy but a lot of the one star reviews talking about someone named "Ms. TC" or whatever are INCREDIBLY TRUE! to speak more; ALOT of absent teachers in general. the only things my child-self would agree with but me morally wouldn't; would be the fact they intentionally change the grades for the better for good reviews (highly likely that most of the high star reviews are people who fell for that) that's all I'm going to say, but PLEASE DON'T SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL.. (unless you prefer good but fake grades over their mental health and wouldn't be surprised if they don't contact you when they finally get a life outside the house.) read more

If I could I would give this school a 0. Only went there because they took my youngest kids. I had a total of 7 kids there from kindergarten to 8th grade. They never called when they say things happened. my youngest was getting picked on by another kid we reported to the school lied and told us the kid was taken off the bus route then was no longer in the school lied kid still on the bus still bothering my daughter. Tried to expell my kid for being a kid then saying he said something I know for a fact he wouldn't say we don't added hard ER to our words ever we ain't no slave. When I questioned them that just kept saying I'm just angry when I was calm and just wanted to understand why the hand book states after school detention the3 referrals then suspension then expelled but that wasn't the case with my kid. Also never contacted me if my kids were acting up or misbehaving no really redirection no discipline at all. Asked for more help with the six graders homework teacher no help. My kids spent more time doing home work six hours to be correct and when asked teacher they had no answer. They tell you want you want to hear at least they thought. I would not tell anyone to come here. Upset because I had high hopes for this school but they let me down and n not to believe the fancy words and the office lady is full of lies and non sense never knows what she is talking about. Crown Charter is an amazing school!! All four my daughters have gone and go to this amazing establishment. Three of my daughters have already moved on one has graduated from ASU with a Psychology degree, one currently enrolled at ASU premed program and I have a eighth grader at L. Thomas Heck Middle, who scored the highest on a benchmark test for all of 7th grade. Which was her first year in a traditional school. I currently have a third grader enrolled here who is excelling! She is reading and spelling at a 5th grade level. Every teacher at the school knows every child's name speaks to them every morning and makes them feel loved and welcomed! My three oldest daughters went onto traditional public schools and were in the advance and magnet programs all from the core education that they received from Crown Charter. Mrs. TC maybe tough but she knows what she is doing so dose all of the staff. Your child will receive private school education for free!! read more

The worst school I have ever come in contact with and the worst decision I have ever made since I subjected my children to this school. Since the charter school system governs itself and therefore get away with their wrongdoings without facing any repercussions, I feel a platform such as this is one of few options I have to make parents and the general community aware of the practices at Crown Charter School. The children at this school are not all earning their grades as many are given A's and B's to keep the school in business. The teachers/staffare not all certified to be teaching our children. It's true charter schools do not require their teachers to be certified, however, our kids deserve the best education possible. My child was called a racial slur and the student was only suspended for a week even though the principle tried to claim otherwise believing I wasn't aware when I referred to the situation. The racist student went on to create friction between students by making racist statements against two racial groups. When the Students refused to play with him, they were told they were provoking the racist student to be racist. The racist students continued making inappropriate and racist remarks supposedly without the staff knowing about it. This same racist student was watching porn at the school and was rubbing himself on a particular female student in his class, again without staff supposedly knowing about it. In the meantime, he was provoking my child with remarks and actions that resulted in my child coming home with a swollen ankle. Talking to the principle was not helpful or productive at all since she was ready to shift some of the blame on my child even though his teacher could Attest to his character and behavior. Other issues included another teacher questioning my child's identity by asking why he wasn't singing one of the patriotic songs the school sings daily, which led to her making him sing my home country's national anthem as an attempt to discredit his identity. This same teacher, a close friend of the principle, also asked my child what his parents told him about the American flag. As a military family my child has nothing but respect for the country his father continues to serve and for which I've served. This same teacher also has a habit of violating students privacy outside of school by using her daughter's social media account(s) to watch students and then make comments to the students letting them know that she's watching them. Her daughter is a former student who remains friends with current students and makes comments to the current students about ongoing issues at the the school by way of social media. Not only are some members of this staff unprofessional, but these same individuals are also intrusive. My child was being questioned about a matter and when the principle noticed my child was not comfortable answering her questions , her husband who is a teacher at the school decided to try and get the information from both of my children as he's had a good rapport with them in the past. When he couldn't get the information from them is when he finally directed his question at me which is how it should have played out from the very beginning. There is more to be told about this school and my story but I will end here for now. Parents beware of this school. Our children's education, welfare, and interests are not the priority at Crown Charter School! Appearances matter most at this school. Advertising one thing and practicing something different. Saying one thing and doing another. Telling students to keep quiet about an incident that involved yet again the same problematic student described above to minimize and contain the situation. Sending people to post reviews, including teachers, on more than one platform to boost ratings in order to appear good enough for parents to still enroll their children. I was a student at Crown Charter from 4th grade to 6th grade. I went to two other schools before this one. The names of the schools were Legacy and Canyon Breeze. I changed schools a lot because they did not help, especially Legacy. I was in Speech Therapy from K-5. Since schools get paid to have a student in speech therapy, Legacy did not help me so they can keep their balance up. However, when I went to Crown, they worked hard to improve not just my speech, but how I treat others. Once I moved into Crown in 4th grade, I was below everybody, academically. In the last year in 6th grade, I was getting A's every single trimester. I am proud of the Crown Charter of not what did for me but to my entire family. If I was a billionaire, I would donate millions to this school because they are the best school with the best teachers that have ever taught me. Since I am not a billionaire, the only thing I can do is say THANK YOU for the work you have done and the work you will do. P.S. This is not an assigned student who wrote this. It wasn't the best school ever but it definitely wasn't horrible like some of the reviews are saying, so I wanted speak up. I had written a review awhile back about Crown Charter but it had since got deleted. Hmm wonder why. Let start by saying that this school should have been shut down a long time ago. Ms T C is an awful human being, just disgusting. I come from a religious family & we don't sing the national anthem or salute the flag ( we do stand up out of respect ) but my brother & I were forced to do so. Same with participating is holiday related songs & activities we don't celebrate. It doesn't help that they don't care about their students education. I always struggled in school & had a harder time understanding the lessons & I began to fail. ( which is basically a sin to that school ). The principal, ms T C & 2 other teachers who actually cared about me & tried to help, called a meeting with my parents & I. My mom asked if she could help me cause my parents believe something was wrong & all ms TC did was tell my parents no & that just a lazy child & refuses to learn. She made my mom cry. My parents pulled us out & sent us to a different school which I was Evaluated & seen by my doctor & diagnosed with ADHD/ADD & dyslexia. Which I was given an IEP throughout middle-high school. Hi, I'm coming from a different perspective as I was a student at this school from my 1st to 4th grade years. I'm 20 now so I have had a lot of time to reflect on all of the crazy things that happened here. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. It is not a safe environment. The playground and grade reports are just bait for the trap. First of all, you need to know is that all those good grades this school has reported? It's how they got there that's the problem. They don't care about your students well being. They just want to look good on paper. My sister, for example, had a learning disability, but the school refused to recognize it. She should have been held back so that she could catch up and the school should have gotten her an IEP but no! They kept promoting her, giving her good grades on assignments she didn't do well on because she didn't understand. They didn't want holding her back to affect their promoting percentages. To the point that when we left this school, the next school we went to she was pulled back a grade, not just held back but pulled back, because she couldn't read or do basic math in 3rd grade. Another thing you need to know is that the teachers here? They teach out of fear. Seriously! Handwriting lessons in the earlier grades? If you turn in a paper and there are eraser marks, you get in trouble. Seriously reprimanded. And it's not because they are awful people or teachers, not at all. It's because the teachers are actually afraid themselves. And yes I'm aware of how ridiculous that sounds and it must be an exaggeration but I'm not kidding at all. Oh my gosh memories from this school I swear I was afraid all the time, no toe out of line, nothing out of place or it was over for you. I was there when Ms. T.C. was still principal and I think her husband was the superintendent but she had him completely wrapped around her little finger. One of the other reviews mentioned how she gets to discipline students with no accountability. 100% Accurate. Shoving students into walls? I've seen it. Screaming at them at the actual top of her lungs? Yes. And I didn't just witness it, it happened to me. I had severe anxiety and perfectionism then, which was only being fed by the extreme pressure of the school, but I had trouble socializing and making friends. So my mom called in to check how I was doing because she was worried. So later Ms. T.C. calls me upstairs to her office and you know I make it a point to get all A's and be the best because of my anxiety so I didn't think I was getting disciplined. So I get into her office, totally unsuspecting, and she asks me a few questions with a smile and a sweet tone of voice. I was really confused when she asked me about my friends. Now Ms. T. C. had this green couch in her office, this green old couch. So I told her that I didn't actually have any friends. She proceed to shove me onto the couch really hard, it hurt so bad. She then yelled and asked me why I didn't have any friends. I was so confused and afraid I don't think I answered the first time. She then comes forward and pins me against the couch.and screams "Why don't you have any friends?!!!" At this point I'm crying and I was just like "I don't know! It's hard!" She then starting shaking me and screaming at me about how I need to make friends and how my mom was worried about me and I need to stop worrying her and stuff. The screaming and shaking went on for forever and I was crying and asking her to stop and I disassociated after that. After it was over she told me to hug my mom when I got home. I didn't tell my mom what happened, most of my friends that she did stuff like this to didn't tell their parents either. She would freak out on students over the stupidest and littlest things. And she still has control over this school, I'm pretty sure she is the owner. DO NOT, PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS TO THIS SCHOOL! read more

TL;DR: Former student. Terrible management of classrooms. Verbally abusive staff, absentee teachers, public humiliation of the students in front of peers. Horrible school. Do not send your kid(s) here. Public schools in the area are better. I attended this school from 2005 to February 2006. School started 8:30 and ended 2:15, this was the shortest class schedule I have ever had and I still wanted to leave early every day. During my last couple of months, I could not bear going to class, I actually had my mom pick me from school 15-30 minutes early. I am getting ahead of myself but, initially the school seemed fine. We had a hour of lunch and that gave a lot of opportunity to enjoy playing with my friends. My experience started to declining exponentially after the first month. My classroom was combined with sixth graders. I was a year below them and we were taught the same material. The classroom was not crowded, the school just did not have another classroom and would not hire another teacher to teach the grades separately, I assume (trying to saving money and all). My learning suffered from this and the fact that my teacher's health deteriorated shortly after the school year began and had to be replaced with long-term substitute teachers. Without a consistent teacher, they had to be constantly caught up on the material we were learning and it made for a poor learning environment. Then, Mrs. T.C. started her authoritarian reign over my class(I wish I was joking). There was very little compassion in this woman. I am trying to be polite, however she was anything but polite and I need to speak plainly about the issues. It could be that she felt a "tough love" approach was better for her students to learn under but she took it too far. She would ridicule my peers and myself in front of each other to make her point clear. It was humiliating. If we did poorly in a subject or on a test she would yell at the class. She thought of us as "troublemakers" and wanted to keep an eye on us because she did not believe the teachers we had could manage us properly. She had surveillance cameras installed to monitor our actions as class because she thought we were too talkative and disruptive to one another. We used to do a lot of projects and we could talk with one another while we did interactive activities. It made for a good classroom connection but she had enough of that limited those projects and had our tables moved to face the wall. The center of the room was basically open we had to turn our chairs to watch and listen to our teachers lecture. It made it more difficult to note take or follow along with class assignments with constant moving from facing the front of the class and facing a wall. Mrs. T.C. would berate you in front of the entire class without remorse and almost always brought tears to the kids being screamed at, me included. We all feared her. The fear was so strong if I knew I was going to be yelled at for whatever I did that was wrong, in her eyes, tears would well up in my eyes before the screaming started. No kid should be publicly humiliated in front of their peers by anyone, especially a person of authority who is meant to care for them and ensure a safe and secure learning environment. This was normal here. The teachers never spoke up to defend us and the only support I had was other students. None of us made of each other when it happened because we all felt the same shame and pain from her verbal abuse and held a mutual respect for one another. She would go out of her way to yell at us and interrupt our learning experience. Once, I remember being picked out with 4 or 5 others in class and being yelled at for how bad our handwriting was. She not only screamed at us in front of my peers and teacher but proceeded to bring us to the second grade classroom and scream at us in front of the second graders and mock us for having worse handwriting than 7 year-olds. She had no respect for us and treated us poorly. Unfortunately she was not the only administrator who would scream at us. I cannot remember his name but he came from the same ideology that mockery and shaming your students will earn you attention and create a better learning environment. He would not single kids out but scream at the entire class if we misbehaved or spoke during one of his presentation. Periodically, he would give a lesson on something the teacher was not covering, like space or something else and that is how we came to know him. I cannot stress this enough, do NOT allow your child to attend this school. Mrs. T.C. and other admins tainted the school's credibility and my education suffered greatly from her verbal abuses who were allowed to crush the self-esteem of their students without consequence. I do not trust the administration to govern themselves properly and regulate their treatment of students. read more

My child has been a student at Crown School since Kindergarten. I have never met a group of teachers that are so loving and caring as those at Crown School. My son recently finished second grade and he blossomed this year due to his teacher's dedication. I can't wait for my other son to start kindergarten next year! My child has been attending Crown School since kindergarten and is now in fourth grade. I am amazed by the academic success this school offers as they go above and beyond the Arizona State Standards. They offer accelerated programs at all levels. I've been so impressed by the highly qualified teachers who ensure every child is offered the opportunity to achieve academic success through innovative classroom lessons that encompass fun and exciting lessons. A blend of cooperative learning and positive reinforcement has provided my child with abounding self- esteem and extreme confidence. All of the staff is extremely professional and caring and the teachers are always approachable and provide a safe, caring environment for my son. Although this a free school, it provides the quality of a private school and I'm more than excited to see the what the upcoming school year has to offer. We love this school! read more
