This time of year you could…read moretypically find heavily reduced prices on Halloween candy while the stores made room for the Hanukkah and Christmas items. 33% off the elevated and artificially hiked candy prices was a bit of a joke. I actually went in there to pick up a prescription which the online service said was refillable. Made the trip over, waited on the line, which is always long, reached a seemingly disgruntled associate only to find my prescription required doctor approval. So I guess I need to be skeptical of the online information in the future. Nevertheless, while I was there, I filled my shopping cart with some sale items - a good value on brand-name cereal which in our house is a real treat, not a daily consumed item The consumable aisles are outrageously priced thanks to the tariff taxes on the American public, I suppose. Allegedly. Add that to opportunistic price gouging and you've got a dwindling number of super pharmacies, taking advantage of the public. I didn't come by the CVS decision, thoughtfully, in fact when Rite Aid closed other shops and went belly up, my prescription was transferred to CVS and it's close to my home. I'm rethinking that decision, but meanwhile, they managed to get over $200 from me for what amounted to two bags of consumables. My three star review reflects my disappointment and discussed how not just CVS but their partners in crime are gouging the American public - Gillette razors, artificially inflates their regular price and then offers you some kind of "special deal if you buy two so you wind up paying the same thing you would've paid a year ago Only you have some false sense of emotional gratitude Forgive the snarky review, but three stars is generous. My suggestion to CVS is to put more pressure on their suppliers to tone down the pricing while we get through this financial crisis we're in.

Not so with Dedericks in New Paltz; they are very proactive and actually call to tell you is an order has been delayed. Calling? With the big box pharmacies you may wait in a circuitous voice-activated system that is hardly what I'd consider good customer service. in contrast, calling Dedericks and with one button push you're talking to a live person within 15 seconds. if you're getting your prescriptions at a big box chain, you're missing out on a much more pleasant experience from ordering to pickup. Highly recommend supporting your local pharmacy especially when they do everything right!

I visited Beacon, NY for a few days to go to the DIA: Beacon modern art museum. Unfortunately, I…read moreforgot my pills, and they were essential!!! Worse: it was during Thanksgiving, so many local pharmacies were closed or with reduced hours. Enter Vogel Pharmacy, courtesy of my Google search. They not only knew exactly what to do to get my prescription from CVS (New York City) but promptly got the stuff ready. There's more. Because my insurance company is horrible, they under-cover the amount of migraine medication I need (only 9 tablets per months). I often have to pay out of pocket if I use more, and I've taken to using GoodRx, an app that negotiates -- much like insurance companies -- with pharmacies to get reduced out-of-pocket rates. (When you think about it, it's kind of an unsettling business model dependent on our donut hole of a health care system.) Vogel Pharmacy told me that the "good rate" GoodRx had was actually a total scam and inflated and that they could reduce the price by almost 80%. They could have been dishonest and just gone with the GoodRx rate, but they didn't. Integrity! Not enough of it, but it was here in Beacon. In the past, you know I've been an 1848 Communist Manifesto socialist -- one who believes that centralized economic systems are a critical springboard to eventual state takeover, then communal 'withering of the state." And I'm typically skeptical of small-is-beautiful localism (see my forthcoming book ALL HEALTH POLITICS IS LOCAL for a meditation on this). But Vogel Pharmacy make me reconsider; would CVS have done this for me? Not a chance.

This is about the pharmacy…read more So I had to get a refill on a pretty generic heartburn medicine that took literally five trips (all in one day!) Trip 1: That will be 200 dollars. Trip 2: Sorry we didn't add your insurance. That will be 200 dollars. Trip 3: Closed for lunch from 1:30 to 2 pm. That's fine but maybe a sign to let folks know? Trip 4: Here is your prescription for 30 days. I can't give you 90 days because the doctor didn't write a prescription for that. Trip 5: Oh nevermind, the doctor did write a prescription for 90 days. That will be 600 dolllars. Oh you have a GoodRx code? Nevermind 30 dollars. Eventually I got what I needed, but CVS employees did not seem to care about how much I'd need to pay until visit 5, and completely did not see a prescription on at least 2 visits. One star. The store is great however. Well stocked. Fairly priced. Good selection of candy, etc. The pharmacy? Meh.
