I am adding one star for the beautiful venue -- we sat in a little parlor, one big table, just for our group. Absolutely lovely setting, and the private setting allowed for comfortable conversation. Unfortunately they did keep us waiting too long in the lounge/common area -- at least 45 minutes after the time we'd booked. Then the way they took orders and served the dishes was odd. We had a limited menu (no problem!), 3 choices each for starter, main, and dessert. They asked each person for his or her choices. But they took our orders while we were still in the common area. So basically they just had a count, how many of each dish. When we finally went in and sat down at our table -- they started coming out with the dishes as they were prepared, asking: 'Duck liver?' and passing out the dishes to people who claimed them. Seemed a bit ... i don't know, amateurish? These are relatively minor issues, and good food in a beautiful room were more important. all in all, especially considering the rather limited selection of places around here, it's a solid choice.

As I live in Swindon myself, I have never stayed there, but I have visited it on numerous occasions for weddings and other functions. I have always been very impressed by the courteous staff. The food that I have had there has always been very good and the cleanliness is excellent. It is not cheap, so not the place to stay if you are on a limited budget. Nearby there are lots of places to go to, such as a cinema, ten pin bowling, an ice rink, bars, restaurants and shops such as Asda.

I was greeted at check in and promptly given the key to my room on the second floor. The facility has a Starbucks in the lobby, a pool and a gym in the basement. There are also two restaurants on site, bucca di beppo (an Italian chain) and a pub. I visited the pub and maybe it's just different then traditional american fare or something but I found the burger to be terrible. Being an American I was surprised to find I could book a room with a single bed so I upgraded to a single double bed. The room has modern amenities including work desk, small sofa and open clothing storage area. The bathroom was nicely arranged although bar soaps or toiletries are not offered. They do have a pump style soap dispenser at the sink and in the shower. I'm not sure if it's a US thing or not but they also don't offer wash cloths which is odd. On the negative side the bathroom had visible mold and the way the shower is arranged you can't turn it on without getting sprayed as there's a big glass pain behind the door. The tub is also really deep and slippery so be careful! Overall I have this resort 3 stars due to cost, filth in the restroom and bad bar food.

There is a kettle for tea and coffee but only a couple of plug sockets to charge gadgets. Rooms sleep 4 at a push. Oddly the lift button is pointing the wrong way up (down) and one of the lifts doesn't have a button with the 3rd floor on it. Instead it's an up button. Odd! Notwithstanding a good place to stay for an early getaway to South Wales.
