I want to start off my review that I am an IHG member (part of the Holiday Inn hotel line). If you don't have a free membership reward started for hotels I would recommend because it can save you money in the long run. Now for the review, we hadn't stayed here before and came in at 2:30 on Saturday, check-in is at 3:00. We asked to check in and the front desk clerk said they didn't have the room we selected (ground floor with direct access) clean. She said they could upgrade us to a suite at no extra cost. Partly because we had the IHG membership (again it is free). The suite had a separate seating area with couch, kind of dated on the couch and chairs plus a dining table I guess if you need it. The king bed was nice and we didn't have any issues with the room being unclean. I am knocking off one star, this is kind of my fault for not checking, but there is a raceway in Hickory and on Saturday between 9 PM and 11 PM there were cars racing around the track making a lot of noise. *NOT MY POST BUT HELPING FB FRIEND SPREAD AWARENESS !!!!* DO NOT book a room at Crowne Plaza Hotel Hickory (1385 Lenoir Rhyne Blvd SE, Hickory, NC) Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts During Thanksgiving weekend, about $1,600 worth of personal items were stolen from our Room 1041. We feel like it was someone with a master key (all access card) because the door was locked with a Do Not Disturb sign. The manager, Jackie Leufkens, has been avoiding us and somehow the Google review I posted a few hours ago has magically disappeared as well. Yet, you will see that Jackie responds to almost all Google reviews herself. Jackie never once reached out to us to ask about the situation. We had to be the ones to keep reaching out repeatedly but we get re-routed to her assistant manager each time. She avoids e-mails, calls and when we called the front desk last week, we were put on hold for almost an hour - only to be told Jackie has now left the property. A police report was filed, and the officer was told that the hotel has "faulty key card systems". A serious security failure that puts guests at risk. Jackie acknowledged to the officer that their electronic key system isn't working to see any key logs, and law enforcement confirmed there is no functioning way for the hotel to review the logs to determine who entered our guest room. This means there's no way to know who enters your room when you're not there or even while you're sleeping. This information was admitted directly from hotel management themselves during police investigation. Despite knowing this, they've taken no proactive steps to resolve the situation. Instead of taking accountability, they shifted blame and claimed their insurance would not cover the loss, offering no resolution and no concern for guest safety. This is strong grounds for hotel negligence and I'm highly considering small claims courts. Items are replaceable and I don't judge the thief, I understand people make mistakes, it's the holidays and times are tough...they may have just been needing the extra money to get by. For me, it's no longer about the stolen property, it's about safety and how we were treated by the hotel management. So many Hmong families attend the North Carolina HNY and book rooms here every year. What if someone or something irreplaceable goes missing from a room instead of a materialistic item? The hotel management isn't taking accountability for their failed security locks...they need to fix that. Period. This exposed a serious lack of leadership, transparency, and basic security standards for this IHG Hotels & Resorts affiliated hotel. Guests deserve to feel safe and to be treated with respect when an issue arises. I strongly caution staying here ever again. It's not safe for you, your children, elderly or even your pets. It seems likes anyone can enter your room at any time without a trace. As a paying customer, we were robbed. Feel free to share and tag Crowne Plaza and IHG. All we wanted was to be treated with respect...who knows how many more situations have been swept under the rug by now. read more

Booked on hotels.com. Received my key card and paid a $15 dollar fee for incidentals. Upon arrival someone was occupying the room. When I went to the front desk the clerk stated the booked roomed was booked as a "shared room" on hotels.com. Hotels.com does not allow this on their website when booking. I decided to leave due to safety reasons and requested to refund. Clerk stated I would have to call hotels.com I proceeded to process with Hotels.com and inquired if there was a shared option for customers. They stated that is not something they offer on their website and that if I'd like to proceed, they can go ahead and start the process for refund. Next, I called the clerk to inform. I did have question about the $15 incidental considering when I gave my card it wasn't for a " shared room". I simply did not want to be charged for damages, that was not my responsibility. Front desk clerk was incredibly rude and showed no empathy. I frankly think she was sleeping on the job and was very annoyed of the situation. Reality is the Crown Plaza hotel put my safety in jeopardy. As a traveling young woman this is not a place I would recommend. Whether or not the clerk with misinformed or wasn't properly awake and caffeinated, I did not want to be another potential statistic. Please be aware especially women. read more

After our first night stay, I stopped by the front desk to complain and ask for help I am 79, and asked for a handicap room on arrival My wife suggested we ask for two beds After a long walk to the elevator, we went up and found our room. It was neither handicap or two beds. This was after a 420 mile trip. Sat on the toilet to learn it was not attached to the floor. Love seat was completely worn out. The next morning I stopped at the front desk to see if they could resolve our issues. Left to attend church and a family funeral. Upon return nothing had been done. Staff could have cared less. Anything would be a better choice. And 3 *** rating! I think not. read more

The Lobby looks Amazing and Grand and staff was friendly. The rest unfortunately is horrible. The room and bathroom was a major disappointment. The bathroom shower looked like it belonged in a cheap roadside motel. The tile shower had tiles that were in a state of disrepair. The shower curtain rod was loose. The hallways needed new paint and wallpaper. A huge disappointment. read more

The room was about a 1.5/5. Most of the lights barely worked and if they did work, they were very dim. Online pictures showed rooms that were all inside around the plaza, but we ended up in a room that was directly accessible outside (anyone could try to get in). The area was also insanely loud with cars all night, and coming from someone who loves cars, they weren't the good kind. Overall, wouldn't recommend unless it was a one night cheap hotel thing. read more

I typically don't write bad reviews, but this was the worst experience I have had at a hotel in my entire life, and I travel a lot. We booked and prepaid for a room through our capital one travel card, like we often do, several weeks ago. When we got to the hotel after driving 4 hours with a sleeping 3 year old in the car, I went to check in and was told they had overbooked the hotel and because we were checking in late they had no rooms left for us. I was given zero help or solutions aside from being given a managers number and extension to call in the morning. I didn't even get my card refunded, I was just given more excuses about how I needed to reach out to capital one to have them work on it. We were basically forced to sit in the parking lot at 1130 at night and try desperately to find a last minute room when everything close by was completely sold out. We had to book a place that was 35 minutes away and twice the price. Long story short, because of this hotel groups faulty booking system and complete lack of customer service, I will never be booking at an IHG property again. read more

Awesome Customer Service! Jason was great... and so was the young lady, Sierra, just Great staff to chat with. You feel like an old friend. I love the little things ... The relaxation kit left on the bed. The nice essential oil toiletries in the bathroom. The really nice refrigerator the has different compartment and is sturdy. They give you a choice of two different coffees and two different hot teas. There are so many outlets in the room. I never have to worry about charging my devices. Super comfy bed! Soft toilet paper is always a plus LOL and nice thick towels. The room was immaculately clean and that is a big deal to me!!! No hairs! They have a shuttle service until 9pm and they have options of you having your clothes cleaned. It's great to have a restaurant onsite and there is a Chick-fil-A and Wendy's within walking distance. Bed bugs... checked in last night. Not even in the room 5 minutes, and my son had something crawling on him. I caught it in a tissue and brought it to the front desk to show the attendant. The attendant moved us to another room. The room only had one bed. They finally got us in a clean room. I called IHG guidance on what to do so not to bring bed bugs home, if they could put me in touch with their pest control company they use. IHG said someone would contact me the next day (today). I called back around check out time and again around 6 pm. I finally had to come home. My family's luggage is still in the car, because we're scared to bring it in. The police told me to contact the health department and an attorney. Nobody from the Crown plaza or IHG has reached out to us. My wife is a nervous wreck over it. Went to go to breakfast at 10:40 that ends at 11:00 am, the lady was rude telling us "we already started putting stuff away early" and got an attitude when we pointed out that Breakfast ends at 11:00. She got a bigger attitude. My wife got upset and walked away. I immediately reported it to IHG at 10:50 am. Still haven't heard anything from them. My son and I were able to use the room for what it was for...to rest. The staff were REALLY nice and accommodating, especially after placing us in a room that was occupied. Once we got our own room, the room had a damp odor and visible mold spors that negatively affected our breathing (we are both asthmatic). We couldn't have another room because the place was booked and we didn't have options. Thankfully, the condition of the room is the only complaint that I have. read more

I had to stay here for a work conference and this is about one of the top worst hotels I've stayed at........outdated and rooms smell like tobacco. When I entered my room immediately noticed the smell, then there was a grasshopper on my bed!! I decided to let that slide but then when I went to the bathroom the toilet was broken -__- Needless to say, don't stay here unless it's your last choice or in my case your work paid for it :( Definitely do not feel comfortable staying at this hotel. The room had silver fish and crumbs in the dresser drawers. Stains on the ceiling and walls. The one and ONLY elevator broke on our arrival. I'm not sure why a hotel that large only has 1 elevator, but thankfully they have maintenance on hand who reset it. The description states it has a pool and jacuzzi, no jacuzzi. The cleaning person stole my daughters vape off her bed, when she came to clean the room. The refrigerator smelled like 4 day old dominos pizza. The coffee maker didn't work in our room, and the chain on the toilet broke. Some of the "guests" looked as if this hotel was temporary housing. OK, To start with, check in was easy. Very nice attentive lady with a pleasant smile checked us in. Being a Priority Club member we always get perks. It is up to the individual Hotel to offer Perks. This one did. Free Executive Breakfast and a Drink at the bar. My wife and I bellied up to the bar. I thought we were being ignored when we sat down. No acknowledgment from the bar tenders at all. Then the Bartender (female with long dark hair ) came up to us and said " What do you want ? " You have a coupon " . I ordered a drink and she said the coupon did not cover that type of drink. It looks only sub level alcohol was offered. The card did not say. My wife ordered a drink, we were going to pay for the drinks because we were going to order better quality than what they were offering. She said I may have it I may not. The attitude from this woman surprised me. It was like saying to us go away I do not want your business. That is what we did, you did not get our $60.34 alcohol bill we spent at Outback. Plus tip. I told my wife one star rating on Yelp. My wife said how rude she was. The Hotel also did not have WiFi in the building we were in. The main building did but the other building we were in did not. I do have to say that the bed was very comfortable and very sleep inducing. The room was quite and dark. Nothing fancy but clean. My head hit the pillow and it was all over for me. Could be the comfortable bed and a combination of the Margarita's. Whatever I slept like a baby. Breakfast was superb. The lady whom greeted us was so gracious. She recognized my Wife and said that she was glad to see here again. What a nice thing for an employee to do is recognize a regular and acknowledge them. Not recommended at all. A few of us stayed in this hotel and were treated very rude and staff would always give us dirty looks. (Racist?!?!?). The only 2 friendly ppl were the young bartender guy and the lady working guest check ins. Rooms are gross and not cleaned properly during our entire stay. Carpet floor in rooms weren't vacuumed nor was the bathroom floor. When first checked in and entered bathroom there were visible pubic hairs on the floor and they were never cleaned up even though they cleaned our room everyday. BARF. WTF. So, this is a difficult review to write because nothing here really stood out good or bad. The room was clean and comfortable. There was Starbucks Verona blend coffee for the coffee brewer in the room. upon checking in I was given a small bottle of Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon. There were really soft pillows on the bed, and cable in the room. Honestly nothing mind blowing but one could (and I have) do much, much worse when choosing a hotel. I've stayed at this Crowne Plaza quite a few times for business trips. The location is somewhat convenient and parking is usually pretty good. The hotel has an old feel to it though and needs some upgrades in general.. Especially in the rooms. It's not really dirty, but it kind of gives you that feeling because it is a bit dingy. Usually you can get a good price for this hotel so I will most likely be staying here again in the future. read more

We booked this hotel room during a family road trip to the coast. We are unfamiliar with the area but seeing that this was an IHG Hotel, we assumed it would be an acceptable place to stop with our dog. The staff was friendly and provided us a dog friendly room free of charge. The rooms are dated like you would expect of a roadside motel. I didn't think much of the dead roaches along the baseboards- maybe that's the NC climate. Rooms are not soundproofed. Guests in adjacent rooms were heard throwing parties until 2am. The next day when we arrived at our destination, we discovered our dog and suitcases were infested with fleas. My advice- stay somewhere else. read more

The only reason I'm giving this two stars & not one is because the room was clean & pleasant, and the pool is nice. We reserved this room to spend the night after my daughter's dance competition, as we didn't want to make the hour drive home at 11:30 pm. When we reserved online we requested a roll-away bed for an extra $10 because the kids are too old to put 3 in one bed anymore. When we checked in, we were told they can't do a roll-away in the room we reserved, but they would bring us an air mattress. Not ideal, but it's one night, right? HA!!!! There is no way in hell an air mattress would have fit in the room they gave us. So....$75 later, we rented a 2nd room & split up. We were put in rooms 1066 & 1060... Both with outside entrances, and......RIGHT BESIDE THE LAUNDRY ROOM. This means that those huge cleaning carts (read: LOUD) roll past the doors all day. Beginning at 9 am, and clearly continuing past 4 pm when we were trying to nap. Checkout is at noon, so we had no intention of being up much before 10 am....until the carts began rolling by & the housekeepers began cussing outside the window of 1066. Good morning to you too. :/ Then, at 9:30, the housekeeper banged on 1060, asking when we'd be checking out. My husband asked what time is checkout? Noon. "That's when we'll be gone". Naturally, not the Taj Mahal... but if you're on business in the area it's a pretty solid hotel. Room was on a quiet floor. Nice bed. Ample parking. HVAC worked well (it was 85 degrees outside at 10PM). Staff were all very friendly. Negative: hotel WiFi was useless. If you rely on a hotel with good connectivity... scratch this one off your list. I had a 4G hotspot with me, so it wasn't a big deal, but it could be a deal-breaker if you don't have your own connection. The hotel is amazing...Rooms are very clean, the lobby and restaurant are great, indoor pool but seating outside for the summer months and the staff is very friendly! This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I do not recommend it at all. The hotel is run down. The doors stick in the rooms and the wallpaper is peeling. The amenities listed, like a blow dryer and coffee I had to request. The room smells like cigarette smoke even though it's supposed to be a non smoking hotel. The mattress does not fit the bed frame and so there are sharp metal pieces sticking out. Non existent maid service. At the very least they should empty the teeny tiny garbage cans which were overflowing. There were not enough bath towels for the number of people occupying the room. I had to request more. DO NOT STAY HERE! There are better options close by and I will be choosing one of them if I travel here again read more

Comfort inn which I stayed last weekend is nicer and cheaper than crown plaza. People here are loud and the staff is lazy and will wake up a whole floor by calling before actually doing their job and checking out the problem in person. Do not recommend at all and will definitely next time stay at one of the other cheaper but nicer hotels. I'm short don't stay here. read more

I've stayed here a total of 6 nights over 2 separate stays, and both times I've thought to myself this is the noisiest hotel I've ever been in. Last time I was in a secluded part of the hotel, and most of the noise I heard was outside street noise. This stay I'm in the main building of the hotel, and I hear water running when any room near mine uses it, every person in the hallway can also be heard. My room has this weird balcony situation. The balcony overlooks the area inside the lobby above the noisy bar. Hours of operation says the bar closes at 10, but it was closer to midnight before it was even close to semi quiet down below. There is also no way to lock the balcony door. My air conditioner in my room doesn't work either, and I sleep hot. So this was not a very restful night. read more

This is am old hotel that has been renovated. Rooms are clean and with new furniture. The fitness center has sauna available and the exercise equipment are new. The hotel consists if several independent buildings so, if you have to stay in a building that is not the main one, you have to walk or drive your car there. read more
