This is an older property, so the hot water and the heat sometimes take a bit to get going, but otherwise very comfortable. I like the layout, with cabinets I can open to see everything I have, or close to hide it. This works a lot better than drawers for me. I found the bed more comfortable than Hilton's for some reason. The staff here are absolute gems - helpful, knowledgeable, kind and welcoming. Their service made my time here exponentially better! read more

I had a great I stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Hickory. It was easy to find just turn on the road in between Wendy's and Chick Fil A. I wasn't sure what to expect from some of the reviews but I was warmly greeted when I arrived and asked what welcome gift I wanted. I chose the breakfast voucher. I was provided a bottle of water and given a layout of the hotel and even restaurant recommendations. The clerk saw that I had a feather free room request so put me in a feather free room on the 4th floor in the Dogwood Wing. So this saved me from sneezing all night and was much appreciated. The hotel is older but my room appeared updated and was clean. I could tell it was well maintained. The hotel is far enough away from I-40 that I did not hear any highway noise and got a wonderful night of sleep. Noise did start in the morning from construction next door but that is out of the hotel's control and I was awake at that point. So it didn't start too early. My room had a mini fridge and microwave. The water pressure was good. I liked the safety grab bar in the shower as I did almost slip on the PVC floor when it was a little wet. The hotel has a pool and hot tub as well as an exercise room but I wasn't there long enough to use either. I didn't care for the breakfast but service was friendly. I will skip that on my return visit on Friday. I was originally booked at the Fairfield as the Marriott site wouldn't let me book just a night at Courtyard but when I checked again it did. Since I was concerned with traffic noise I decided to do another night here as I enjoyed my stay and felt welcome by the staff. Second Stay: Check in was friendly but I wasn't given a bottle of water. I was put in the Cardinal Wing on the top floor and could slightly hear the traffic at times but the fan covered up any noise. The hotel was full or almost this stay so there was hallway noise and someone woke me up at 7am, so more soundproofing would have been appreciated. But I do like this hotel and will return again. read more

The room was very nice. Beds were comfortable and not stupidly high as we've encountered recently. Staff was friendly and helpful. No complimentary breakfast. What they had was assembled and then high speed toasted (see Subway sandwiches), making things like bacon hard and painful to chew. Coffee other than in-room cost at least $3.50 per cup. Really? Apparently the hallways aren't air conditioned, nor are the elevators. Since we were there for a group event, we missed being able to chat over breakfast or at least a cup of coffee. Small town, small hotel. But clean, convenient, and comfortable. About what's expected. Hickory is known as the furniture capital of the US, and they have some nice, high quality furniture selection. However, we're here to review the hotel. Hickory is not large so this hotel is located... conveniently in Hickory? Not really walking distance to anything (especially considering Hickory is an hour out of Charlotte), but does have plenty of free parking. 4 floor hotel, so you won't get much of a view of anything, but not much to see anyways. Staff was friendly at check-in, not too busy when I went. Lobby area and dining / Cafe area are spacious for the size, a few places to sprawl out and work as needed. And food / drinks were ok. Rooms are dated but spacious. Hotel is a bit dark, but you're not at a courtyard to spend tike. WiFi was fine, no issues with any of the amenities that I remember. read more

Stayed here for a week on business. It's right off the highway with several restaurants nearby - you are paying for the area. The front desk staff were nice, but not welcoming. As a Marriott member they did make an effort to ask if I would like points vs. a market item - not many hotels make an attempt to ask this anymore. The rooms were clean/comfy. A smart TV is in the room which offers Netflix, HBO, Showtime, and Amazon Prime which is a nice bonus!! The gym offers treadmills, ellipticals, and free weights - that's pretty much it. I took a star off because they do not offer complimentary breakfast. I did not know this before arriving and paid for breakfast daily. A café is located on the first floor where you can order meals/snacks/breakfast, however I feel it's overpriced. I paid $9.10 for this French toast - it was delicious, but costly! Often when I approached this café, it was left unattended and I would have to wait for an employee to arrive and take my order. If I'm in the area again, I'd rebook. read more

Was to lazy to drive back to Charlotte so me and a girlfriend decided to do a mini staycation in hickory! This is an Older hotel, but clean. Rooms seemed updated. Beds were comfortable. Only complaint I had was the fire pit was broken. After a swim I wanted to enjoy some time near the fire pit with my friends. However, the staff was awesome! Would recommend if your in the area. read more

Worth the extra $ versus other hotels- we are traveling to Hickory, NC frequently now that my son is at Lenoir Rhyne Univ. We've stayed at many hotels at various price ranges. Hand's down this Courtyard is worth EVERY penny. Clean, open, updated.... indoor pool & jacuzzi & "exercise room" were VERY clean & comfortable as were the beds, linens, etc As much as we have been & will be traveling there, watching our money is a huge priority but the last hotel we stayed at which was $40-45 less expensive, was absolutely a waste of money. If ur like us & have little wiggle room in your budget, find that $40ish somewhere else (we pack sandwiches, chips, water etc vs. eating out) Spend time searching diff site like Expedia, Hotels.com & lots more & you'll be surprised how good of prices you'll come across. read more

I'll never stay here again, my room was not habitable! The amount of febreze soaked into the beds, carpets and curtains made the room have a hazy look and it stunk like chemicals. I spent two nights with a splitting headache, the window open and a face mask on. I got a shrug when reporting it to the front desk as another hotel worker was spraying down the couches and curtains with febreze before our very eyes. I'm not sure when chemicals substituted vacuums, dusting and cleaning at Marriott hotels but this was extreme. read more

Front desk staff not super friendly when we checked in. We're bonvoy members and didn't get thanked for being members, not even a how are you tonight, just checked me in and handed me the keys. Otherwise this is one of the nicer Courtyards I have stayed in, with updated decor, a comfortable bed with sheets that didn't sound like you were going to wake up the neighbors when you rolled over. Very clean. Well supplied room with a keurig, fridge and microwave. Toilet was very oddly low to the ground, I'm 5'1" and felt like it was short, so my over 6' hubby definitely felt that way! Very easy to access and close to the highway and some food options. read more

Probably the best hotel in Hickory. Also better than a lot of marriott i stayed in. Down side, no complimentary breakfast. Bed is super comfortable, spacious and high quality linen. Decor in the room is tasteful and furniture purposeful. Good food from the cafe downstairs. Efficient front desk staff. Good bathroom, whereas some hotels the bathroom either shower leaks, toilet keeps flushing or what not. No complaints. Over the last year I've spend roughly 50 nights at this hotel. Its pretty standard for Hickory. During my most recent stay there I had such a negative experience. As a Bonvoy Platinum Elite member I asked for a room upgrade upon check-in. The person at the check-in desk didn't bother checking for rooms on her computer and said "we don't do that". I was tired and just wanted my room so I didn't bother pressing the issue. When I was given my key, it didn't work on the door. I brought it again downstairs and a different woman at the check in desk said "they are already active." I told her they didnt work but went upstairs and tried them again. They still didn't work. I went down for the third time- this time she said she would check. It was so frustrating having to go up and down, being tired and wanting to check in. Not a single apology from her. I was shocked someone so rude and lacking in basic customer service could interact with guests. Turns out the door was broken, the manager apologized and had the issue fixed. This was such a frustrating experience and I would have expected better service especially given my rewards level and how often I've stayed there. I had colleagues coming in to Hickory and had them book an Airbnb. Going forward, I will do the same. read more

I tried booking under a friends and family rate which I have done countless times at other Marriott locations and they were acting like I was such a burden. Very unprofessional/rude. Typical Courtyard but not too many hotel choices in Hickory. Location is pretty ideal; close to the freeway and near many restaurants and shopping. The front desk folks were friendly and accommodating. Starbucks in the lobby is also a bonus. read more

My husband and I are celebrating our 31st anniversary by taking a few days away just the two of us for the first time in 27 years. We just lost our daughter in December and need to spend some quality time together. We couldn't afford the King room with a Whirlpool so we just reserved a standard King room. I thought I would call the hotel and explain that it's our 31st anniversary and our 1st trip alone in 27 years and ask if there is any way they could give a free upgrade to the King room with Whirlpool. I spoke with the Assistant Manager who was so nice and she said that the General Manager had given us a free upgrade to the King room with Whirlpool. That was so nice of them! We are looking forward to spending our anniversary at this hotel and enjoying the wonderful amenities, the Starbucks, and the in room Whirlpool! We were looking to spend a few days of romance with a day of adventure at Emerald Hollow Mine and it looks like we found the right hotel! I will update my review after our stay but so far this hotel and it's employees are fantastic! read more
