Before finding this little gem I had some really horrible cuts at some of the big hairdresser chains. Having rather curly hair seemed to present a real problem to most hairdressers. I was always hoping that they wanted me to look funky, but I assume they just couldn't cut it properly. The salon is owned by Sally, who is also the main hairdresser, but I normally book my cut with Sophie. I love the way they are dealing with customers. They always ... and I mean always ... ask me what I want to have done before they start the whole routine of wash, cut and so on. I find the questions very comforting, because even though they know me and my hair they give me the option to change my style if I want to. I normally have colour and cut done, but I also had the Brazilian Blow Dry done several times with them, which turned out beautiful every time and was marginal cheaper than in the more central salons. The atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. Most people are regulars, but you also have the walk in customers. Sally is also offering a reward scheme, which gives you a stamp for every £25 spend in a single transaction and £10 off after eight stamps.

The only…read morepositive thing is that I didn't need to make an appointment and a test for the colour ( I have been coloured my hair for some months now..) but I could be served straight away. I went for the colour and a basic cut, no particular style. I wanted to keep mine. I left with a not "brilliant" colour but I could bear with that at that very moment...the problem came up when I got home! I didn't notice that behind my neck a big part on my left was not trimmed! It looked horrible...thinking also that who did the job was the Senior stylist! My tint also started fading after 2 weeks.. I was not given any option for the price, like the different price of a senior stylist or a stylist prices so I ended up paying the highest price ( I assume therefore she was the Senior stylist). I won't return for sure! Now I am going to a school for hairdresser..they might do mistakes but at least the price is much more affordable and so far...no mistake but bright colours!

I was particularly intrigued by the promise of "a backwash ritual including a sensory journey and Indian head massage techniques to energise or calm." So I booked a haircut and off I went, ready to be calmed. But all i got was a haircut, not the best I've ever had, but not a bad one either. Needless to say i was disappointed about the lack of sensory journey etc etc Yes, of course I should have said something, but I was struck dumb by that ridiculous British trait of being too embarrassed. So my disappointment with this salon was partly my own fault, but really they shouldn't promise things they don't give. Other than that, the salon is good. It has a good relaxed vibe, and judging by the pictures of its treatment rooms, looks like a great place to have a massage. The staff are also really friend, and maybe one day I'll go back, this time with a little more courage!

A friend recommended I pop in to speak to a colourist at their new shop (now Natural Colour Works), as recently I have tried something a little different with me hair... I started the process of dying my hair grey. Im 60 this year and I was so tired of dying my roots dark brown every 8 days.. I wanted to go dark grey all over and let my silver grow into that. But as anyone knows who has tried this.. its not an easy process. You have to go thru many stages to get where you want to be.. And the recent toner I had put on was a little too lavender for my taste and I wanted to replace that toner with another darker grey toner. But I wanted to use some more natural products if possible that would be gentler to my hair. So yesterday I went into NCW for a consultation. I spoke to a young woman in her 30's who looked at my hair reluctantly and asked me what it was that I hoped to achieve.. and then she said, " Well, we do have a wonderful natural product that would remove the toner you have.. But I certainly WONT DO IT.. as I think what you have done to your hair was a very bad idea.. we would NEVER do that here!.. Let me ask if anyone else here would be willing to do it." She went off and asked a senior stylist.. he tilted his head in my direction, made a face.. then shook his head. She returned. " He REFUSES to do it as well. But there is a place around the corner I can send you to called Bleach London, they will bleach your hair as much as you want them to... but that will certainly ruin your hair even more than you already have. I would never do what you have done to my hair.. as I love my long hair." to which I replied, " Let me get this straight. You say you have a natural product that will remove this toner without damaging my hair, but you are refusing to offer me that.... but are instead sending me somewhere where they will surely damage my hair? Sorry but i'm confused. I do not want to bleach my hair again.. I just want a different toner on it." She then went to 2 other stylists who also turned around and looked at me, made face of disgust and shook their heads NO. Their clients also turned around and stared at me.. (this is a very small salon, where you could hear everything that was being said) This public shaming made me feel just terrible. I left. I can honestly say, this was the most unpleasant, unhelpful and embarrassing hair experiences of my life. I have never encountered such rudeness or snobbery in a hair salon! To say to someone.. yes we "could " use our wonderful natural products on you but we refuse to do so.." What is the point of that? Other than to try to make me feel really terrible. I left the salon and walked to my car and burst into tears. I desperately do NOT want to be a woman in my 60's with died brown hair. I think it looks ridiculous. But really, who needs an experience like that? Trying to grow old gracefully is tough enough already! I stumbled upon this salon on accident, after being turned away by Bleach London just down the…read morestreet*, and am surprised that there aren't more positive reviews! The salon was cozy and willing to schedule me as a walk-in for an appointment that day. The stylist was attentive - listening me describe in detail what I wanted and gently pushing me towards what was realistic**. She was friendly and talkative (very important qualities in someone who is going to spend hours hovering over your head, touching your hair). The products that the salon uses were sweet-smelling and didn't feel harsh on my hair. * Bleach London would've made me do a 48-hour skin test before touching my hair. NCW also has a skin test policy (to make sure people aren't allergic to their toner), but they were able to accommodate me by dying my hair without toning it. Cheers to those who accommodate! ** I have naturally jet-black hair at the roots and honey-blonde everywhere else. I wanted to go full platinum, which just wasn't happening in the four hours of time I had.
