We had our wedding at loon lake campground. The owners were extremely helpful the week of the…read morewedding. The location is absolutely beautiful. I would have given 5 stars, but the owner came up to my parents at the end of the night and said we had clogged the drain by putting chocolate down it, which had never happened, and if we didn't fix it we would lose our 500 dollar deposit. So my dad proceeded to pull apart the drain at 10:30pm that night (they had been awake since 5am setting up the wedding and wanted to go home), when he proceeded to pull apart the drain it was filled with spaghetti and a butter knife....which there was no spaghetti at our dinner and no one would have put a butter knife down there, so it clearly wasn't our wedding that had clogged the drain. Hearing about that made me very upset with the owners and the venue, and really wasn't fair of her to make them do since it wasn't our fault.

The owners are amazing and friendly. They have a tiny store that mostly has shirts and some toys. They advertised ice but did not have any. There is an Irving gas station a few miles away that is stocked with great items, beer, wine, etc. They also make cold and hot sandwiches. Tiny playground for kids. Had some swings and a slide. I love that they have a game room with books and games you can take to your site. They placed rubber ducks around the campground and the kids loved finding them during their stay. Not too much going on locally and you would need to travel close to an hour for bigger tourist attractions. All in all, I will definitely return.

According to outdoor book there are moose here and sometime at lake. Campsites are clean and spacious and lakes are calm and good for kayaking, but 1-2 hours is enough to kayak all the lake. Stumbled upon the Somerset Reservoir while we were out one day driving around the area; a couple of…read moreour friends were headed there to take their dog for a swim, so we decided to meet them. It is VERY much off the beaten path and once you turn on Somerset Rd., it's a good 3 or 4 mile drive to get to the general parking, picnic area near the water. Oh yeah, the road isn't paved either so it's best to have a 4x4 or some sort of vehicle with tires that can handle the trek. The general parking area is a decent size, there are a few picnic tables and a port-a-potty which was surprisingly clean. The reservoir itself is huge and great for kayaking or canoeing, neither of which we did, but I did see quite a few people there enjoying themselves on the water. There is one general walking direction which takes you to several different hiking paths and there is even a cute little bridge overlooking a beautiful stream. It had rained that morning and with leaves falling, the trails were a little slippery at points, but nothing that made me feel unsafe. I'd definitely recommend wearing sneakers or hiking boots of some kind. Between the group of us, we had 3 dogs and none of them were on a leash; people really didn't seem to care and everyone was friendly. The dogs enjoyed swimming in the water and I enjoyed looking at it. I'd most definitely go back to Somerset Reservoir with a camera and a light lunch to kick back and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

We pulled up to the ticket booth just off the main road at around 2:15 p.m. on a weekday. After…read morepaying our $5 per person, it took another 15 - 20 minutes to drive up the twisting road to the parking lot closest to the summit. There was only one other car parked there, though the lot looked like it could hold 35 - 40 cars. The hike from there was then a minimum of 0.6 miles (rocky and occasionally steep) to a lookout tower (25 feet tall, maybe). The summit was another 0.1 miles but probably wasn't even as high as the tower. We took the Slot trail up since it appeared to be more gradual (but was a bit longer). On the way back, we opted for the other option: the Slab trail (which was steeper but had steps cut into the dirt or fashioned from large stones, in spots). I would classify this hike as short but moderate. The tower views were pretty nice. It probably took us a bit over an hour to hike up and back.

I explained to the person working that this happened, he assured me that it happens sometimes and it would be taken care of. The owner told me that Booking didn't give her them money. So she wasn't going to refund me. Booking said she should refund me because I prepaid through the booking site. The owner told me it was my problem to figure out with booking. It never got handled after months of going back and forth with them both. Wouldn't it be her problem to figure out with booking since she uses their service to fill up rooms? I think this is such a bad business approach. And I wonder if she was even honest with me about not receiving the prepaid payment I did thru booking. Either way, I wont use booking.com or every recommend or go to Kampfires Inn again.
