I have been a "member" for a couple of years now. While my husband and I did enjoy our first year as tenters, it was the fellow campers that made our trips enjoyable and worth the 2 hour drive up. The owners, Rich and Joe were welcoming and nice. In our first year, we rented the same sight each weekend and we were sometimes charged a holiday rate (as it was a holiday weekend), primitive sight cost (water/electric) or the basic rate (non-primitive). This site was not a primitive site but our rate fluctuated based on who checked us in. We always packed up our site before 11am and was verbally told that we could enjoy the pool/deck until we felt like leaving so we did. A few times during potluck, we have seen men scratch/grope themselves (groin and crack) and then instantly dig their hands in a bag of chips or grab a spoon to scoop some food onto their plates. (Skipped over whatever they had touched and ended up grilling our own food). We noticed that Joe would often get irate about different things that happened at the camp or something done in a way that wasn't done on his manner. This was confusing as one min he was smiles and happy and the next, angry with the world and completely silent and rude to his camping guests. As we began making more friends, we also saw the cliques within the campground. As Joe mentioned, he hated cliques. However, I have seen him promote his own. If you were in Joe's clique, you were able to do as you saw fit. If you weren't within his clique, you were an easy target for doing anything that he didn't agree with. I have been awakened several times to his dog, Cobalt, slipping under our tent screen and sniffing through our coolers and food bags. I have also had dog waste in our site and even saw him (Cobalt) in the act of relieving himself. As a dog lover, I know that this is what dogs do. As a camper, I know the owners' dog had free range of the entire campground (as all dogs did). Last month, Joe had made a post on the Facebook group page about owners cleaning up after their dogs. In agreement, I commented that people did need to pick up after them but as dogs walk around, they sometimes go places that the owners don't see. I used his dog (Colbalt - who is now deceased) as an example of wandering and going where he saw fit. Since Joe did not like my feedback, my comment was removed, my access to the campground group page was also removed and he unfriended me (which I'm not losing any sleep over lol). As a CUSTOMER, I think that this is completely unacceptable since this business welcomes their members "home" but then is disrespected for promoted healthy discussion with its members. It sure doesn't feel like any home that I want to be a part of anymore. While I love(d) the majority of the people there, I feel that I will take my money and put it toward a more deserving and friendly establishment versus here. I see this place shutting down in the next 5 years if it can make it that long. read more

Beautiful peaceful fun campground with amazing people. I hope to be back. Love the pool...atmosphere....excellent.

All I can say is that my husband and I love Joe's Hideaway. We came here as renters a little over two years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed our experiences here. So much so that we ended up buying one of the RVs that Joe and Rich had for sale so we could become seasonal. We have had nothing but great experiences, made new friendships and look forward to many more years of enjoying our time here. read more

The setting of the campground is nice. The seasonal guys make it nicer.  There are a lot of quirks when dealing with the owners. First off, all correspondence is done by email. There is no office phone.  Then there's the CASH ONLY policy. We were told to mail a check for the full amount and if it was not received within 7 days, our reservation could be canceled. When I asked about electronic payment (PayPal, Venmo, etc) we were told they don't accept that. Check or cash only.  The day we arrived at the camp it was about 1 pm. Checkin starts at 12pm. No one was in the office. We rang the bell a few times and waited. And waited. And waited.  As I mentioned before, there is no office phone to call to let them know you're there. About 40 minutes later Joe shows up in his golf cart and asks, with an attitude of you're disturbing me, "what do you want?"  Let's see, 2 guys in an RV, off the beaten track at a gay campground we have reservations to stay at. We smile and say we are checking in.  That's when we are told there's an additional $20 per person (Cash Only) to buy a membership to the campground. The check in process was not welcoming like at other campgrounds.  Our site was a pull through, level, shaded, spacious with water, sewer, electric and fire pit. Plenty of room between sites.  Our first night there it rained heavily. In the morning while walking the dogs I noticed that at least 3 sites had major erosion from the rain. If someone had been in those sites it could have been disastrous. As an FYI - Sites 8.5, 10, 12 look like they've been made on landfill and the rains carved out a 10+ foot long trench about 4 feet wide and a few feet deep. (See pictures. ) So beware should you be assigned those sites. The pool is nice and large with lots of seating, but closes at 6pm.  There is a bathroom/shower house with on demand hot water. We were told and there are signs that it is for "TENTERS ONLY".  I walked my dog, on leash per the rules, down to the office to check on something. 100 feet before we got to the office the owners dog, Nala, came running at us and wouldn't leave my restrained dog alone. Joe finally came across the gravel road, barefoot, to get his loose dog and threw her by her collar 5 feet away from us. Then proceeded to yell at me for coming near the office/house without first telling them I was coming down Again, how? They have no phone number on their website or posted outside the office. Joe threw his hands up and was yelling, "We have a dog here! You need to warn us if you're coming to the office!" After seeing his treatment towards his dog, I got a better understanding of his treatment of his customers.  The seasonal/permanent campers used terms like "quirky" , "hot headed", "unreasonable" and "arrogant" when talking about Joe.   So, no. We won't be back to Joe's Hideaway. I can't recommend it either. I should have read and believed the other reviews and stayed away in the first place but wanted to give them the benefit of doubt. read more

This summer was our first time at Joe's. Not sure if we'd return or not. It was a mid week stop for us, but might be interested in seeing what a weekend vibe would be like as the main pool area, disco, main campfire with movie screen all seemed quite interesting and attractive. The camp is wonderfully laid out and seems to work like clockwork. A few things gave very odd and cautionary impressions. This camp is very under the radar, which is a bit unsettling. No telephone number, only email - which makes it nearly impossible to communicate which translates to poor customer service, accepts cash only (we weren't really aware of this and were sent away immediately after arriving to an ATM in town - this after a long day of travel, but that wasn't really acknowledged by the owner). They don't accept Zelle, Venmo, PayPal either, but accepts checks (if you are avoiding the gov't, that doesn't make any sense). One of the owners doesn't look up from his truck ever to waive or smile. I'd skip the place for the owners and their behaviors and policies like cash only, but would maybe give it a 2nd chance to meet some locals and permanents and see the kinds of weekends they have. Too bad the experience isn't more customer focused and friendly. read more

I found this place this past summer what a great way to spend every weekend and at least one week during the summer you can't beat the prices. The sites are large and always expanding and the bunkhouse where I love to stay was always clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and stocked. And oh yes can I say laying naked by pool side is wonderful. I plan on being by pool side every chance I can. See you there read more
