I guess people complain about it being "dirty" but I lived 32 years along the pacific in southern California and compared to that, the Mississippi coast is practically drinking water. Maybe people just assume it's dirty because it's adjacent to the port and your mind starts to wander.... what's all that machinery putting out into these waters....??? In that regard, the beaches in Pass Christian are nicer because you don't have to look at the port, but when you're a little kid who just wants to run and swim and delight in the ocean, the view just doesn't really matter.

If, like me, you are a little more open minded, keep reading. Pass Christian Beach is far from perfect. Despite its imperfections, I absolutely love it here. The first thing I like about this beach is its proximity to me. This is the closest beach on the Gulf of Mexico and I can be from my driveway to feet in the sand in under an hour. Traveling here with kids I really appreciate how close it is since children are often unable to remain calm for long periods. The next thing I like about this beach is that, unlike Bay St. Louis, this beach is actually on the Gulf of Mexico. I realize there isn't that much difference, but it feels more like a real beach to me. OK. So far we have closeness and beachiness, but wait, there's more. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is an area that is truly special to me. These are the areas I have visited since I was a tiny baby and all throughout my life. Every time I visit the area, all of those memories come flooding back. It never ceases to amaze me how the place that was so special as a child can still be special as an adult. Watching the look on the face of my children as they run and play here makes me think that they too will always love it. Hey, one can hope, right? Some of the reasons that many people won't like this beach are the water, and the beach itself. The beach is littered with sticks and other tree type debris (see photos). I assume this debris is washed on the shore from one of the coast's barrier islands, but that would be a guess. The water isn't the clearest either, but while I am not a fan of non-clear water, I wear crocs in case I step upon a great white shark or other creature that intends to bite my foot. I know crocs aren't exactly the most fashionable footwear, but fish, sharks and crabs know people wearing them are not to be trifled with. I almost forgot to mention one of the best things about this beach. Unless it is a holiday, the beach is hardly ever crowded. We were there for several hours and only one other group showed up and they had a pretty cool dog (see picture) who liked to swim. If you want a beach, and you need it ASAP, this is a great place to go.

Before boarding, the small gift shop had some interesting items along with snacks and drinks. The restroom was not what many expected, but come on, it was on a wooden pier! There was a shared sink for hand washing. It was quite clean. Boarding the boat was well organized. Those needing assistance were helped and treated very well. This is an old boat and moving around on open water does require holding on to poles, railings hand holds. The boat has snacks and drinks for sale while underway. The boat captain and crew were friendly, funny, and entertaining. All were interested in ensuring those wanting to see dolphins had plenty of opportunities. Extra effort was made for the kids. Our trip out and back had many sightings. Keep in mind, dolphins are out feeding in the wild. They may or may not be in the area.

According to a resident, locals often frequent Ship Island to sail around on their personal boats, though the Ship Island Excursion boat takes tourists for a 30 minute cruise, at several convenient times throughout the day. The Fort on Ship Island survived Hurricane Katrina, though there was some damage to the amenities on the Island (such as the snack bars and bathrooms). Ship Island is a great destination for fishing and relaxing, and the emerald clear waters are teeming with sealife, and I even saw blue crabs, starfish, pelicans, and...dolphins! Make sure to stay until the sunset, which is spectacular as it illuminates the sky...

We stopped on a whim here and I'm really happy we did. It is perfect for him! This is a very nice and very clean park with a wonderful paved walking path. It is right on the water with a marina. There is a playground for kiddos with what looked to be a water playground for warmer weather. There was a huge, very nice pavilion as well as a pavilion. It looks like there was beach access right across the entrance. We were there around 5:00 this evening and there were quite a few people jogging as well as several families with kids playing. A very good find!

The beach was undergoing some renovation with heavy equipment/machinery bringing in fresh sand. No we were there during the off-season.. the beach itself has beautiful, white sand and was fairly clean. It stretches for quite a ways and there are several beach bars/restaurant establishments on Biloxi Beach that you can dine out at. There's also a large souvenir shop called shark heads on Biloxi Beach that was fun to visit. Because we were there in April, it was a little too cold to spend extended time on the beach, but we enjoyed evening walks to watch the sunset. Note, Biloxi Beach is on the Mississippi sound so the water is brown. You may spot Atlantic bottle nose dolphins!

We stopped here to spend a little time on the beach and experience the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortunately for us, there are multiple signs that say they do not allow dogs. We travel with our small dog and we don't like to leave her in our vehicle. My husband stayed with her while I checked the beach out for a bit. I really didn't think it was anything special. The sand here is super fine and you will notice that most people are taking their shoes off and leaving them in the parking lot. It's very difficult to get this sand off of you. There was also a smell, I want to say it was like sewage, but it wasn't that strong, just strong enough to make me not want to stay. Because of that I did not venture into the water. As I said, there is a parking area adjacent to this beach and a paved boardwalk that goes around where people were jogging and walking their dogs. This is definitely a functional beach and there were lots of family and children on the beach when I visited.

First of all this was kind of a surprise so it's really hard to go wrong with any motorized vehicle…read morethat's going to be operated on water that's as warm as a bathtub in May. We arrived and found where we were supposed to go on the beach real easy. Staff knew we were coming and what we were ready with paperwork and instructions for the jet skis. Once we signed all the necessary paperwork (as the staff members cracked jokes - and in general just had a good time being there) we waded out to the staff member that was going to give us our final instructions and set us off on our way. Large area to play in with the jet skis, probably about 4 football fields wide and 1/2 mile out you were able to explore and have fun. The only rule, don't get near each other (jet skis) because things can get out of hand real quick resulting in an accident. Jet skis were clean and fast, and a ton of fun. If you have kids, one thing to keep in mind, you have to be 18 in order to be a driver. Anyone under 18 rides double behind an adult. Friendly staff and great experience. I would highly recommend these guys if you're looking for a fun gulf adventure.

The owner, Dan, was super friendly and informative for first timers! We rented two boards and our girls ages 5 and 7 sat on the front of the boards. We swam and played on the lake for a few hours and enjoyed the serine atmosphere. The kids eventually got brave enough to stand up and paddle too. We would definitely return!
