Came here for a late brunch and really enjoyed the Nutella mole enchiladas. This mole had a nice smokey and spicy taste. The Nutella gives the mole a nice nutty and buttery profile and toned down the spice level to balance the flavor. I really wasn't expecting that at all. The chicken was well cooked as well. The interior is small but there are tables and booths available. As soon as we were seated the waitress came over to introduce herself and take our drink order. When she came back with our drinks we ordered chips and salsa. I looked over the menu and ordered the Chicken Enchiladas Verdes for my dinner. This dish has two enchiladas with pulled white meat chicken, tomatillo sauce, jack cheese and crema. It comes with pico de gallo but I didn't want that so asked for No pico. It's served with rice and a choice of refried, black, or charro beans. I chose black beans. The chips and salsa were good. The chips were thin and crispy. The salsa was very flavorful. The enchiladas were delicious. The rice reminded me of my Grandmother's home cooking. The black beans were tasty. I have tried this restaurant twice. One was during covid and we got take out and this last time we dined in. I wasn't wowed when we got take out so I was excited to give it another try by dining in.The restaurant probably has about 15 tables inside and then a few outside. When we got there every table was filled and there were only 2 servers. The service was good considering there were only two servers! We ordered chips and salsa (not included with your meal), la casa enchiladas with chicken, and street tacos. The enchiladas were average, but I really enjoyed the rice. My husband thought his street tacos were good (especially the tortillas), but missing some salt/flavor. Overall we spend $40 on this meal and it was just okay. This is the definition of a local gem, family run business at its finest. We've been going here for years now and it's our favorite spot in town. However, the word is out on what used to be our hidden spot, but thankfully take out is just as good in a pinch (we have a 3 year old sometimes waiting for a table isn't a great option for us, although totally worth the wait if you can because the restaurant is darling.) This is owned by a husband/wife duo and the grandfather is commonly there to welcome you and make you feel at home. Brunch is fire and I wish they bottled the chorizo gravy. Top shelf queso is a must and they have the best margaritas in town, hands down. Floutas are great, Tex-Mex enchiladas are a family favorite and sandwiches and crispy tacos are a win too. There is outdoor seating, we opted for indoors and were seated immediately. Our server was the father of the owner and the chef. We heard the family's history in the food biz, which was interesting. We ordered the guacamole appetizer. It reminded me of packaged avocados and was lacking both acid and salt. The tortilla chips tasted fine, but I would not recommend it. Our entrees were the house cheese enchiladas, the shredded beef enchiladas, and beef flautas. The cheese enchiladas were tasty except for American Cheese topping which entirely overwhelmed the delicious sauce. I would not order again or would skip the American cheese. I remember when my buddies mocked the Gringos for speaking of chicken fajitas. Faja is belt in Spanish; fajita is a traditional term for skirt steak. Yummm, I do like a good a Tex-Mex spot. I've been eyeing this place for a while and finally got a chance to come here. I ordered the braised beef enchiladas and was pleasantly surprised by how good they were! I really liked the verde sauce! I did wish the beef to be a little bit more tender but still enjoyable. I got a classic crispy ground beef taco as well and was very happy that I did. It kind of looked like a well done Taco Bell crispy taco and I mean that in a good way. For some reason, every time I go to a Mexican place, I can't help myself and rarely get anything but enchiladas. This place's enchiladas are some of the best I've had. The enchiladas verdes are perfectly done! The chicken is not dry and falls apart, the salsa is great, the (Spanish?) rice is awesome, and the refried beans taste like they're cooked with a little bit of bacon fat or something. Even the tortilla isn't too hard or on the opposite end, soggy. The fact that it's this good for takeout should tell you a lot about their food. The husband and I came here for lunch on a Sunday morning. Order at the counter and sit down at a table with your number. They were pretty busy with several families with their children here. Food: He tried the breakfast tacos: the pachuca (eggs, beef and queso) and yo primero (potato, bacon, caramelized onions and cheese). He was thoroughly impressed and would definitely come back here. Definitely a must try but probably wouldn't get this all the time. The slowrider looks pretty standard but the caramelized onions are so delicious (better than other places!) and add something special to this taco! Yummmy! Pretty pleased with our decision to give this place a shot. Brand new restaurants always makes me hesitant but this place rivals the big guys - Taco Deli (ugh so crowded), Torchy's (kinda bored with the menu and it's tourist attraction), Papalote (good, goodl) We had the Fried Avocado Taco, Portobello Mushroom Taco, and Migas Tacos. We washed it down with some Garlic Fries and Chips and Salsa. Fried Avocado is the best I've ever tried in Austin...and I've tried a lot (Papalote comes next!) It was fried in a light batter, perhaps tempera, drizzle with cream sauce and fresh arugula. The bitter with creme combo was pleasant. The tempera was crisp and hot. Portobello Mushroom Taco is the best I've ever tried in Austin. Excuse the repeat. The mushroom slices were hardy and carmelize along with the onion counterpart. Flavor was a pop of unami. Now, we have high standards for Migas Tacos because we go to Veracruz All Natural at Radio Coffee religiously. They are the #4 Migas Taco makers in the nation. Cruzteca's Migas I would best describe as "Veracruz's but take out the mysterious unami flavor (or msg or addicting taco drug flavor) out and replace cheese with cheddar. Still pretty good but I would stick with other tacos for now. Garlic Fries made your mouth water when they place it down on the table and you get a whiff of it from the motion. They seem to be handcut so it would be like PTerrys way of doing it but not soggy. Chips and Salsa chips remind me of the super light, airy, and crunchy ones (Like Kerby Lane) and the salsa does have a kick. Has a good in between position of watery with a tomato blend and tomato juice. Sounds insulting but, nah, it's gewd. Downsides? They're a bit new all right. Our tortillas were switch. Staff forgot to refill napkins or gave us intial silverware. Also forgot to supply salsa but they've been open for three weeks so perhaps they'll get used to the brick and mortar soon. Pretty good food but pretty bad customer service. This place is counter service only but they do bring the food to the table. We walked up to order and the woman behind the counter did not even do much as greet us, merely stared at us until we decided what to eat. We ordered the queso fries (think Mexican disco fries) and they were good, a bit too much queso (yes that is a thing when it falls to the bottom of the bowl and makes most of the fries completely soggy.) We also ordered the pork torta. When they brought the fries they set them in the middle of the table and did not bring an extra plate, after that they disappeared to the back and no one could be flagged down to bring a spare plate. I'm trying to eat the fries not have it all drop on the table before it gets to my mouth. They bring you a fork but do not bring you a spoon or knife and these items were also not readily available at the drink station. We noticed bottles of salsa on other people's tables that the staff brought out when food was delivered, but none was brought to us and we had to specially ask for it. When we asked for it we got a glare from the staff member? The torta has good flavor and chips were meh. The salsa was good and flavorful but sadly the experience will not bring me back. I am not a picky eater, but I have never been more disappointed in a meal. We came here for a friend's birthday and I ordered the spinach and mushrooms enchilada, easy enough right? Wrong. Spinach takes what usually 5 or so minutes to sauté? This spinach was still crunchy as if it ordered a fresh salad inside my enchilada. I doubt it ever saw a frying pan even. I cut my mouth on a stem from the spinach and also found that stick or whatever in my refried beans, no idea what is it but it does not seem like it had any good reason to be there. The lady was rude when we came into the restaurant, despite half the restaurant being empty she made us sit in the waiting area to be seated, then proceeded to sit us at a table right next to someone else and the door, rather than give us a little room to breathe. With an empty restaurant and it being a Tuesday you'd think they'd put more than 2 seconds into an order, definitely will not be returning for not only sanitary reasons but quality of food cooked that has me seriously concerned for what's actually in the food there.
