I was in the process of buying a horse from Crysta. You must put down a deposit before you can schedule a vet check. I wish the deposit was less but other than that the experience was great. Crysta was always prompt texting back, gave plenty of videos, answered tons of questions and was pleasant to deal with. She suggested a vet in the area and hauled the horse there (for a fee) but the horse did not pass vet. She recorded vet check which was very helpful. The vet she suggested was experienced and honest. Ethics? Nope. Class? Nope. Empty promises? Yup. Unsafe environment? Yup. Promised individual lesson, yet ended up in a group with no feedback? Yup. Requested a refund for the five lessons I paid cash for in advance and I didn't use because I saw her lack of ethics? Did I get the $325 refund? Nope. Saw the poor treatment of staff? Yup. I saw questionable care of the horses. Tack, brushes and farrier equipment cluttering the breezeway and their creation of physical hazards. Shit is everywhere. Filthy stalls. Horrible experience! My wife and I set up riding lessons, when the day came we showed up early, Crysta did not. We saw some people riding so we walked over and it was her daughter who informed us she was at the auction and would not be back until after 7PM. When we asked for a refund since SHE did not show up she said no and threatened us with lawyers. She does not message back, ignores you after you pay, and threatens you when she doesn't get her way. I bought a gypsy vanner weanling from Crysta Awtry Nov 2023 for 12,000.00 on payments. We were told (plus I have it in writing) she had the registration papers in hand and when he was paid off she would hand over the papers. The horse was paid off in full Feb 2025 and we did not receive any papers. Instead, we got a lot of excuses and lies. I did some digging, contacted the Gypsy Vanner registry who told me they cannot register him (and others from her too) until she sends in proof of ownership etc which she has refused to do. They said they needed the documents in order to make sure Crysta is selling the horses legally. In one of my last correspondences with the registry, they gave me a name to contact. It turned out to be the legal owner of the sire and dam of my gelding who lives out of state. Crysta is not the legal owner of them although she claims they are hers. She has not paid for them and does not have papers on the dam and sire and cannot register the offspring even tho she will tell you she owns them and the foals will be registered. I have done some digging around and I am not the only one she's done this to. It is now 5 days away from August 2025 and I'm still fighting to get the papers. I paid 12,000 for a weanling that was guaranteed to have papers only to be scammed. If I knew she was lying about the papers I would have taken my 12,000 elsewhere and bought a Gypsy Vanner from a legit seller who would provide me with papers. We paid $16,000 for a papered Gypsian mare from Crysta in October of 2020. She said her computer was having issues and wrote a bill of sale on a piece of paper. We were told we would have papers within 30 days after the check cleared. We have no papers, she will not disclose the owners name and has been saying the mare needs to be DNAd in order to get her papers. Send her 50 hairs in an envelope and she will get them. We want to do this ourselves for honest verification. I would not take her word on anything. False advertising and fraud seem to be happening here. Anyone else have issues? Bought a horse through her, where she said the horse could be ready to ship a week from when i bought it, then I would be charged for board after that. I arranged shipping for the horse when she then told me that the paperwork wouldn't be ready until four days after the original date she told me. She then conned me into paying her gas to and from the vet and for the horses coggins and health cert (ended up being nearly $300), and THEN trying to charge me board for the extra days the horse was there, even though it wasn't ready when she said it would be. After all this, the horses papers that she said would be sent with the mare, didn't get sent. She then says that she'll mail them to me and send me the tracking info (which I still haven't received two weeks later). This has been a ridiculous experience and I DO NOT recommend anyone buy a horse from her. She has plenty of other bad reviews through the Better Business Bureau if anyone should need more warning. read more

I took my mare to Crysta for breeding, she took great care of my girl and was great about sending updates while she was at her farm. I also took a few lessons on some of Crysta's school horses while I was visiting my mare, she's a great trainer and her horses are so forgiving and safe. read more
