No place to go potty besides at a portapotty. Make sure to bring snacks in case get hungry. The tour guide is a lit up tour guide as the guide has lights on his kayak. Crystal City Underground - Everyone getting saddled in. - Parks Near Me - Crystal City, Missouri

Think of this as a developing underground adventure & entertainment park with a glorified cash only beer & soda stand. 40 foot high ceilings of mined rock arches over areas big enough for 2 cars to pass is most the mine. The first section has concreted floors to create a psuedo bar & entertainment area. The next larger maze of mined caverns have a sand floor for a large concert area, sand volleyball courts, disc golf courses and a new laser tag area. The final area of the "underground" is flooded and they give a "barge" tour. This is a mine. Yes, the owners brought in outside power, but not running water. Porta potties and hand sanitizers are used. The bar is for serving cans & bottles- not mixed drinks. Massive areas are available. Large projectors shoot video on sheets & banners the size of a house. There are concreted & sand floored areas with probably 100 tables & over a thousand chairs. Since this is undeveloped underground- *constant temperatures of 50-55 degrees (great for winter or summer) *everything has a layer of dust or was just wiped off *contrast feeling of spacious areas & claustrophobia of being buried under the earth -the sand for volleyball is not "regulation" and never could be because of small falling rocks *no BBQ pits (or kitchen for matter) *no smoking Set your GPS to 700 Crystal Avenue & turn into the opening in the fence. Travel over the pothole road and across the one lane bridge. With the lights on- go through the tunnel. The opening to the "underground" is across the parking lot & on the far left with no real sign- (I gave you a picture of the "gate" when closed) How to rate a mine that turned into a indoor rustic park? I walked away thinking it was A-OK. I could see myself loving it or hating it depending on why I was there. They do not accept credit cards, you have to do the barge ride, its awesome! My family and I heard about the Underground from a living social coupon for the barge ride. The barge ride is approximately 30 minutes long, chilly and exciting. There was another review about there not being any lights. The cave only just recently opened in February of 2012, but there are currently lights, on the barge and that light up the path on the water. They also have bands come in on Friday and Saturday evenings, they have sand volleyball, and disc golf. This was a great family adventure on a Sunday. read more

While planning our St. Louis trip, we found a barge ride through old flooded mines on Groupon. This sounded too good to pass up, so we pounced on it. This wound up being 45 minutes south of downtown St. Louis and over an hour away from our hotel, but that was our fault for bad logistical planning. Regardless, we made the commitment, so we made the drive. We arrived at about 10:30 pm. You drive down an unpaved road, over a wooden bridge that doesn't look stable, and through a cave to get there; I felt like I was in some sort of horror film. Once we arrived though, we were definitely pleased with what we saw; it was simply gorgeous. We walk in and they have a bar area set up with a stage and band playing relaxing music. We had apparently arrived after the last barge ride took off, but they were nice enough to take the barge out one last time just for us (HUGE BONUS POINTS for hospitality in this case). We make the trek through the mines to the flooded area and hop aboard. The ride was probably one of the more spectacular things I had been on. I found the sight to be simply gorgeous at most times, and cool at others. These used to be sand mines and they had dug so deep that they hit an aquifer, so they had to constantly pump water out to continue mining. Once miners closed down shop, the mines flooded. A real estate developer purchased these mines and is in the process of developing them. While it's clear to see that they're still trying to figure out what direction to go with these mines, they have a cool set-up with what they have so far. Throughout the ride, the driver and his fiancé were very friendly and conversational, and we had a good amount of laughs. Afterwards, we went to the bar, grabbed a drink, and sat by the fire-pit outside the mines before the journey back to the hotel. I definitely look forward to coming back here to check out the pontoon or kayak ride (water is frigidly cold, so we'll see on the kayaking), and would strongly recommend checking this out. read more

Thoroughly disappointed in our experience with Don and the Kayaking. Note: if you put the address in your maps it will take you to the wrong location. When this happened I called and texted Don (who had texted me earlier in the day to confirm we were coming) to ask for the correct address or directions. About an hour before we were set to come, I had sent him a message asking if he had restrooms/porter potty there to use before you leave (because the trip is about 2.5 hours I was told). We didn't want to be late and since the address was incorrect we decided not to stop because I thought surely they would have somewhere to use the restroom. (Crystal city is about an hour from us). When we arrived, Don was supposed to meet us at 1:30 and by 1:45 there was no sight of Don or anywhere to use the restroom. So we decided to head back into town really quickly to use the restroom so that we wouldn't hold the group up. We arrived back at the location at 2:01 and the bridge to access the caves was locked up and we were not able to get in. There was a nice group that we had met when we had originally got there and were sure they must've told him we went to run the the restroom and would be right back. When we arrived to the locked gate, we called and texted Don with no reply. We waited 15 minutes in hopes that he would come unlock the gate to let us join but he never came. I've gone on this kayaking trip before and had a good experience and this trip was planned to surprise my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. I understand that it was our fault for being one minute late to get back and maybe we should've just waited the whole 2.5 hours without a bathroom but I'm just thoroughly disappointed in how this experience was handled. Crystal city has lost our business and support, which probably won't be a big deal to them. I don't want to discourage anyone else from going because it is a really neat area. But I truly wish it was run by people who are more compassionate and understanding or at least had the decency to respond by saying, something like, "so sorry you missed us, hope you come back a different time" but the lack of communication was just truly a disappointment. read more

Awesome place to go with a big group of people! Last Saturday we (group of 13) visited the place.The place is amazing. The temperature inside about 50-55 F, no humidity or wind, feels so nice ( long sleeve is enough, but if you will take a barge ride then a jacket will be a good idea) The barge ride is interesting and unique 30 min adventure. If you group of 10 or less you can take a pontoon. The place has a nice bar inside where you can buy some snacks and drinks. Only CASH, they do have ATM inside, but probably step by at the bank before coming will be a good idea and save couple dollars. We enjoyed a sand volleyball ( sand is lil cold to play barefoot) The stuff friendly and very helpful. Defiantly will be back!!!! read more

Good concept; horrible execution. After reading the reviews, my boyfriend and I went there for their Valentines Day special. It sucked. The barge was broke, they ran out of some things behind the bar, the bad was horrible, the staff at the entrance where everyone was signing in were unprofessional and the whole thing was disorganized. No apologies for the barge being broken just an offer of a coupon to come back some other time. The place has the potential to be a fun/unique place but they need to get professionals in there that know how to run a business. read more

I love this place! Unique and interesting place to go. Employees were friendly. It is gorgeous and the music was fabulous! The barge ride was really fun and our guide was very informative and friendly. We took 2 other couples. We are all in our 40s. There was no little kids here which we loved on our adult night out. Party Cave! This place is a lot of fun, like a frathouse in a cave, definitely not for naturists seeking to explore and learn, but lots of fun. Upon walking in you are in the bar, a fully stocked bar with beer pong tables. There you can purchase your tickets for the boat ride. The boats leave every hour, at the top of the hour, so if you have to wait you can wander around the cave, or have a drink or a snack (the snack are the bagged variety, chips, candy, etc...). Among the many amenities, they have a frisbee golf course (you can rent frisbees with lights to help keep track of the disc.) a large area with a projector and multiple couches (dusty, but that's to be expected), the aforementioned beer pong, volleyball, or you can wander around the cave. They also have several port-a-potties as well. The barge ride was fun as well, they take you out and give you some history on the area and the cave, all of the tour guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. If I have one complain it's the overwhelming fumes from the barge's motor, but you're in an underground environment with a motor so... you just have to put up with it for a while. You should definitely check this place out if you in the proximity, your bound to have a good time. read more

CC Underground is surreal, eerie, and panic-inducing, yet manages to be a unique and memorable activity. It's a several hundred acre former sand mine and underground lake complete w/ bar, big screens, sand volleyball courts, disc golf, kayaking, and cavernous walkways perfect to be murdered in. We had a great time walking around, exploring, and not straying too far from the lit up areas, lest we be murdered. The barge ride was a trip, and incredibly scary, considering you're 300 feet below ground in a former mine. Our barge driver was excellent, full of great historical facts and pee-inducing moments, like when he stopped the barge and turned out all the lights. It was the darkest dark I've ever experienced. Super cool. Queue up the GPS because it's an a weird spot. read more

I bought a groupon to go dinosaur hunting. It was a big disappointment. It's a tiny haunted house style maze where you find 6 dinosaurs. We drove an hour to get here which was a huge waste of gas. To make the trip worth while we wasted another $20 so our kids could find "seashells." The cave is cool, but that's about it. Everything is lame and expensive. read more

This.place.is.awesome!! I was wow'ed from the very beginning, when we had to cross a bridge and drive through a cave to get to the actual attraction. Once you get inside, it is awe inspiring and doesn't even seem real. There's a lot of water inside so you might as well take a barge or pontoon ride. You will not be sorry. As far as other activities, there is also frisbee golf and sand volley ball. As the other reviewers stated, there is a small (cash only) bar. It's not big or fancy but it gets the job done. This is a small, family owned company (which in my opinion makes it better) so you can tell that they are still working out the kinks. But that's okay because it's so cool. Perfect for anyone. Kids, large groups, small groups, dates. Anything. I can't imagine anyone going here and not loving it. So basically, what I'm saying is that you need to go here. read more

Played disc golf today. It was an unique experience. I had a lot of fun, but on some of the holes, the tee boxes are hard to find. Also they need to put a the numbers on top of the baskets. Bring a flashlight so you can see down the tunnels. They provide lights to tape on your disc. $5 pay the price you will need it. Careful the are some water hazards, and it's some very cold water...lol read more

You should be aware that this is totally an underground cave so if you are claustrophobic or afraid of the dark you probably shouldn't go. We had never heard of Crystal City Underground until I got the Groupon. It was very interesting. A little scary at first as we were the only car going in and we didn't know whether to drive over the wooden one lane bridge or we were supposed to walk over it and then we drove through a very dark tunnel but was relieved to see parking lot when we got to the other side. Barge was great. I would highly recommend it. read more
