So get this. I have been a member since LA fitness came into Florida in 2013 and bought out…read moreLifestyle Fitness. At the time my location was in Winter Park, Florida and in 2014 I relocated to Orange City, FL and have worked out at this location ever since. Orange City is closed for renovations and members told me they received an email that members would not be billed during the renovation for Orange City. I did not receive that email and assumed it was probably because my home gym was set to Winter Park. I opened a request to have my home gym location changed prior to the closing and that it was my understanding I would not be billed during the renovation closure. Kedrian, the manager at Winter Park responded saying he would put in a request to have the home location changed but that it wasn't really necessary, however, members would still be billed during the renovation and I could freeze my membership during that time for $10 a month. Well I was billed the full price for the next month and the freeze wouldn't take affect until the next billing cycle. I later confirmed that members of Orange City were in fact not being billed during the renovation period and that I however would be billed because my home gym was set to Winter Park even though I asked for that to be changed prior to the closure and also was told that it really didn't matter. I still have the voice mail and emails from Kedrian. When I inquired why I am being billed I am again told because my home gym is still Winter Park. Unbelievable. I was also told that since my membership allows me to go anywhere in Florida that I can visit the nearest gym which is a 30 mile round trip. Imagine a 30 mile round trip several times a week plus full membership and the extra time and gas expense while others at the same gym don't have this expense for the membership. I told them I would just cancel and they had the nerve to say come back after the renovation for a deal to rejoin. Why would anyone do that after being treated like this and a member for over a decade?

Come to find out the guy gave us a whole tour, sat us down, and harassed us to buy a gym membership for an HOUR AND 30 MINUTES. Keep in mind the whole time we were trying to tell them no, we don't want to buy a membership!! So then we finally got to work out and come to find out the gym has CARPET. The bathrooms are dirty and probably haven't been cleaned in MONTHS. The manager kept trying to convince us to buy a membership so long that they just drained all the energy out of us. Terrible people, won't be going back to finish our guest pass. Other places don't HARASS you to buy the membership.

For the past 8 years, I had a grandfathered membership that included guest privileges and other benefits. During COVID, I was specifically advised to pause--not cancel--my membership so I could keep those benefits. On June 9, I brought a guest as I have many times before and was suddenly told by the front desk that my membership did not include guest privileges. Neither the employee nor management made any meaningful effort to investigate my account history, explain the change, or offer a solution. Long-term loyal members deserve better communication and customer service than what I received.

This isn't a big city YMCA, so I expect it to be a little small. There were enough machines in the gym area to make me happy. Off of the top of my head, I can't think of anything that they had that I would particularly miss from my LA Fitness. I visited with my girlfriend on a guest pass (which is nice to know that it's an option, as at LA Fitness, the only options are to sign up for a free ten day pass and have to spend an hour trying to be sold, etc). I had to sign my name, and it took seconds - yay! Also on that note, she is a member of the Orlando Y, and she mentioned that DeLand gave her some flac for coming in to "not her home Y" or something of that sort. Here, she just scanned her card and she was good to go! I still need to do a little more research regarding pricing and guest privledges, etc (as I plan on doing some road tripping, don't feel like paying for hotels, and would like a place to shower, at minimum), but I think there's a good chance I'll sign up here. It's a nice location for me - a nice little scooter ride from my house, and it's right off of the highway on the Howland exit. From most areas of Deltona, it is pretty accessible through roads that aren't too busy. I'm pretty sure it's closer than my Orange City LA Fitness, so I recommend anyone in Deltona to check this out before signing up there. I don't have kids, but I noticed that they had a dedicated trainer showing kids how to use machines in a little area that seemed almost dedicated to them. That seemed nice. :) So it's probably a good choice if you have kids. I didn't try the pool, but I like the fact that it's outside. I didn't see the locker rooms either, but I rarely use them, just for a quick change. Here, I'm most likely to scoot there in my gym clothes anyway. They have lots of classes, and my LA fitness has just moved theirs around, so the ones that I want to attend are nearly impossible for me - again, more research I need to do. They gave a great first impression, and I look forward to going back soon!

I booked online through…read moretheir website for a same-day appointment and then a member of their team called me to get a bit more info about my goals and provided me with additional info to prepare me for my first stretch session. I have not worked out or done much physical activity since I had a baby, so one of my goals is to increase my mobility and flexibility before just jumping back into exercise. She let me know that non-slip grippy socks are required which was good to know. They do have them available for purchase in store if you forget or need to get some. Upon arrival, I was kindly greeted and instructed to remove my shoes and get ready with my socks on. My flexologist was Mackenzie and she was wonderful. She walked me back to the stretch bench and began to explain the process and everything she was going to be doing. First, they have you take a quick Physmodo scan which involves doing some squats on a screen and it assesses your mobility, posture, activation, and symmetry. This tells the flexologist the areas that they need to focus on, and they customize each stretch session specifically to your needs. My scans revealed that I was especially tight in my hamstrings, neck, and hips. Then you lay down on the table and they begin to gently stretch your full body. Wow, it felt amazing and I didn't want it to end! It should never be painful and Mackenzie checked in with me often to make sure I was comfortable. It's almost like physical therapy. After my session, they provided me with more info on their memberships and pricing. While I really wanted to commit to a membership, I did have a bit of sticker shock. A single stretch session goes up to $115 each time or a membership is $299/month which includes 4 stretch sessions... basically one per week. I unfortunately just could not justify the cost, but I really did enjoy the experience. They have a $49 special for your first 50-minute intro session and it is 100% worth trying!
