I broke my back, spent 10 years in pain, I was scared to move fast, or twist too much. There was a lot of fear in my body and mind. I also knew that I was growing fat, moving less, and my future was going down hill. I needed to do something! The level of instruction, knowledge, caring, respect, and friendships I have experienced at Oom Yung Doe over the last two years is very, very special. I move with a new sense of freedom (I never thought I'd see again). I sleep like a baby, my mind is sharp and focused. The time I spend training with my daughter has also been a great bonding experience. What was this lazy 50 year old advertising agency guy going to do? I was never an athlete growing up and I can tell you that I have never set foot inside of an LA Fitness. I tried out various in-home fitness programs and saw some results, but it became boring for me, I quickly lost interest and there was a complete absence of motivation and challenge. Although I was always eating healthy, I knew I needed to find some kind of fitness program in order for my diet to be worth the effort. I needed something more, but what? Oh, how lucky I was that there was someone in my life who cared enough to give me one of the greatest gifts I could ever hope for: an introduction into the world of martial arts. My friend brought me to a different school that was teaching a watered down version of what I call "moo doe lite". Moo doe (which is taught at Oom Yung Doe) is traditional martial arts, with lineage that goes back centuries and was only passed on to the wealthy and privileged in East Asia. After spending almost two years at this other school, I was naturally led to the School of Oom Yung Doe in Oviedo for more proper and advanced training and focus. Our school teaches the principles of 8 martial arts combined and taught as one - it is brilliant! We learn the principles of Kung Fu, Bagwa, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu, Tai Chi and all the classic martial arts weapons are available to learn. I instantly felt comfortable that this was the correct path for me. The increase in my strength, coordination, flexibility and even my confidence is unbelievable. One of my favorite parts of the school is the amazing students I have met and the quality, dedication and a sincere sense of caring from the Instructors. The leader of our school, National Instructor Rich, has been practicing for almost 40 years and teaches classes every week. There are also two Head Instructors who consistently provide some of the most rewarding and challenging lessons available. The Instructors truly make this school one of the finest martial arts school in the country. And if that's not already amazing, we have regular visits from International Instructors and Masters who provide specialized training throughout the year. You could not ask for a more talented, experienced and honorable group. During my journey I quickly noticed improvements at work in the form of my focus, energy level, problem solving abilities, attitude and patience. My boss has commented to me numerous times that I am "on fire". My clients benefit from my increased level of creativity and leadership, and see their business goals being clearly defined and hit on a regular basis. I am excited to see how I progress further through my training. Over and over again I found myself applying principles from class into my personal life; not just saying them, but incorporating them into my life. Through my training at Oom Yung Doe I have learned about what's truly important in life and how to become a better man... a better citizen... a better human being. It's more that just sweating, it's about following the correct path in life and making a difference for those important people in your life. And the most beautiful part of all of this is that I have just scratched the surface. But, how lucky am I to have received this gift of learning traditional moo doe from some of the most amazing people in the country. Every day I realize how much I am benefiting my mind, body and spirt. I envision myself practicing traditional moo doe for the rest of my life... an endless supply of positive energy and movements added to my life. I've been attending school through Wah Lum for over 15 years now and I also went to China with Master Chan. I've studied some Kung Fu and Tai Chi at the school on Goldenrod but also attended many special sessions for anniversaries and cruises. I can't say any thing bad about these schools. They run a tight ship so don't think you are going to get off easy! You must train hard and take the training seriously. If you think they are going to let you flop around the temple and be lazy well you need to find a different place to be lazy. There is no lazy at Wah Lum!!! A+ school and Master Chan is the best. I will always thank him for the teachings that he has given me personally and also that privledge of learning at one of his many other schools. I will always think of this style and school as being my home away from home because they treat there students like family. Oh, did you see that I mentioned cruises? and the trip to China? That's because every once in a while they get the schools together and they go on trips. During those trips they practice Kung Fu and Tai Chi. My trip to China was amazing and we spent three weeks in China visiting the different schools and temples. The cruises are basic 5, 7 or 10 day cruises but the best thing is that you get to train at Kung Fu at sea! Pretty freaking cool!!! Check the schedule and find a time when you are able to go by and check things out. Bring your kids to have them check out the kids classes! Find a price plan which works for you and have fun getting in to shape learning traditional Kung Fu and Tai Chi!

After reading for years about the health benefits of Tai Chi, I began investigating ways to learn…read moreand practice this ancient exercise. For several years my only option was on-line programs. I was so happy to be introduced to Sifu Sam Winters and could learn Tai Chi in person from a dedicated expert who is an International Chinese Martial Arts Judge, and a "sifu" or teacher for over 20 years. Sifu Sam is an excellent teacher who is truly dedicated to ensuring students understand not only the movements of Tai Chi, but the purpose of each movement. His focus and daily practice of Tai Chi inspires his students to gain the expertise and knowledge that he represents. I am amazed such slow, purposeful movements can increase strength, balance, and flexibility...but they do! And, as an added bonus, Sifu Sam begins each class with Qigong breathing and flexibility exercises.

It is perfect for walking for exercise and I saw the cutest marsh rabbit as I made my way through the park. There are also two fishing piers. Kids will spend hours playing and on the two imaginative playgrounds. Secret Lake Park is also home to the recently renovated Casselberry Recreation Center which has a main room, ballroom, billiards room, computer room, outdoor deck area, activity room, and outdoor pavilions. The recreation center offers many programs from youth to senior. They include exercise, yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, and dance classes. The park is also the host of several beloved Casselberry traditions like the HOWL-O-WEEN Dog Walk-a-Thon and Canine Costume Contest, Art & Music in the Park & Food Truck Bazaar, and the Casselberry Easter Egg Hunt. I really enjoyed my visit to Secret Lake Park. It is the perfect outdoor recreation destination for families, fitness seekers, and sports lovers. You can go for peaceful stroll, play basketball, or watch the kids play safely. I attended a Tai Chi & Qigong class for beginners with Alan Zemel and really enjoyed it. I learned about the benefits of Tai Chi, how to breathe through my diaphragm and to move in an intentional, balanced and mindful way. I felt welcomed and appreciated by Penny (who also teaches there) and Alan from the moment I walked in. The furniture and dim lighting created a calming environment. I plan to enroll in another class in the near future.

This company is posting snipe signs around our community. Snipe signs are those little push in the…read moreground, plastic signs that are part of urban blight. As I understand it, snipe signs are **illegal** in Seminole County, and are illegal in Winter Springs. The city and the county spend money each year removing illegal snipe signs. They don't even post the name of their business on the Snipe Signs, which makes me wonder, might they already know Snipe Signs are illegal? Who knows. Bottom line is these signs are illegal, and make our community look trashy. To the business owners, if I'm incorrect please let me know. I'm not perfect, but I see no evidence the sign is not yours.

Fun place for the kids or even adults to come do Karate and for everyone to stay in shape and be discipline in the world of Martial Arts. The place is small and sometimes when you go to watch it can be packed so get there early , not enough sitting is a big factor but also the parking lot is small.Not to many parking spots available so sometimes you have to park in Taco Bell next door or McDonald's. The classes are quit pricey from what I have heard ($200+) a month and I think that is a bit to much for Karate lessons but my nephew goes three times a week. Also the place smell a bit from people sweating they need some air freshener in there big time even though I know it is going to be like that but at least they could keep the place a bit better for those that go in to watch there family or friends and maybe get a bigger location I notice they have a lot of classes but the place is small and can feel to congested at times. The owner is pretty cool and is a black belt in Karate. I recommend the place if you want to take Karate lessons but I really think they need to move out to a bigger place. Three stars for all the reasons listed above.
