Oooof. It's hard for me to say how my week (a solid seven nights) went living out of the Crystal Inn while working in Salt Lake City. The Good *The staff is all helpful and friendly *The pool and hot tub were always empty and clean, probably the best "bonus" *There is a guest laundromat in the basement that is clean and useful *I never had a hard time finding a parking spot The Downside *The rooms are a little janky and old and don't feel completely clean *It was impossible to open the window in my room and the shower curtain was concerning *There is a breakfast every morning, which is mostly ok, but the butter and peanut butter next to the toaster are shared use and the coffee is not good and I'm not a picky coffee drinker. *Twice when I went to my car, I was approached by people in the parking lot asking for money read more

I enjoyed my experience at this hotel! I was pleasantly surprised by the offering of amenities. There's a small pool and jacuzzi to enjoy. There's an adjacent exercise room but I found this a bit lacking. It's a tiny room with 2 ellicipticals and a treadmill. My favorite has to be the breakfast buffet every day from 6AM - 9AM. The menu can vary but there was bread and bagels with cream cheese and butter, pb and jam, scrambled eggs, sausages, potatoes, and fresh fruit. The hotel suite was clean. There is a sort of damp smell around the elevator and first floor but it's not too overwhelming. There's a lot of available parking. read more

Could've been much better. The pictures online don't this hotel is very outdated. Don't plan on eating breakfast there cause they really don't have any to serve their guests that they have. and if you did check out early, they certainly don't reimburse you for that so definitely look around that area if you need a place to stay I really think there are probably better places. read more

Would not recommend hotel. Everything was dingy and dirty. They asked if we wanted to be by the pool.....that was out of order. You could also smell the chlorine on the way to our room. Breakfast left much to be desired. We even ate our leftovers this morning instead of breakfast. Front desk was less than pleasant. We were gone all day yesterday and our room wasn't attended too. When my husband asked for fresh towels they said you had to ASK for your room to be cleaned!! Beds were uncomfortable and the pillows were an absolute joke! The Inn is conveniently located near the downtown, walking distance to many restaurants; near the Capital and beautiful Mormon Temple. We arrive last night later than expected due to weather. We called ahead and the staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Our room was spacious & clean! They offer a great breakfast along with your stay. It was impressive - much better than your average continental breakfasts at other hotels. In the evening during our stay from 5PM- 7PM they offer a soup and salad special for guests.. Pleased with our experience. We'd recommend the Crystal Inn to anyone who plans to stay in Salt Lake City. Free shuttle to and from airport is a plus and there is a Budget rental car located across the street (less than stellar service, but car and price was reasonable). Close location to I-25 makes for easy access to all the ski areas (most 30-40 minutes away). read more

In general it was a ok stay, I will probably don't stay again. The pool and breakfast and light dinner were nice. The rooms are dated. The 3 towels a day policy is ridiculous. Some employees need to learn how to be more helpful and happy at their jobs. We stayed for one week and only an older employee at the front desk greeted us in all that time. He was there most afternoons and was really nice with me, my daughter and my dog. The rest of the desk staff was too busy to said greet anybody. On my first night (13 Jan) around 8 PM I asked the desk lady to help me get the luggage cart out, since I didn't have a coat and was very cold outside, she got mad at me ant told me to do it myself. I leave the luggage cart in the lobby and walk away. The housekeeper Rhonda was lovely! Some others were ok but one of them left and forgot to visit my room, after I told her I needed new towels. The room need a serious update and deeper cleaning. I found hairs on the bed sheets ( picture attached), garbage behind the nightstand and an old piece of paper from a past guest. The fridge didn't work. Sometimes while showering the hot water turned cold for few minutes. The iron board was disgusting (picture attached) and the iron only works for a few minutes at a a time. read more

This hotel was much nicer than I expected. I shared the king suite with my daughter. It was clean, roomy, and well kept as was the rest of the property. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast did leave a bit to be desired. Overall, it was a great stay with an unbeatable price. read more

I stayed here for a half marathon. The good: 1. There was a shuttle bus that took runners who stayed at the hotel to and from the race. 2. The breakfast was decent and included hot options like potatoes and eggs. The hotel provided a grab and go for runners on the morning of the race. The not so good: 1. My room smelled like smoke, even after I opened the window. I told the staff and they did not do anything about it. 2. The room was never cleaned, even after I requested that it be done. 3. I asked for a wake up call for morning of the race, and I never received it. It's a good thing that I set the alarm on my phone, just in case. I would stay elsewhere next time. read more

This Hotel is so awesome!. My BF and I spent 5 nights here the week of Big Cottonwood marathon, as they are a host hotel for the race. The staff in so great. After our plane landed, I called the front desk of this hotel and they sent a ride to come pick us up right away. I am so grateful that they off airport transportation as we were going to be depending on public transportation during our stay. This was also our first trip to Utah and we planned on exploring. They offer free breakfast every morning and free dinner every night as well. We didn't partake in the food offered but we did grab coffee every morning. Free WIFI was fast and efficient. We had the standard king room which was spacious and comfortable. Our room also had a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator. This came in handy as I was able to stock up on milk, oatmeal, fruit and yogurt that we had for breakfast. The room was cleaned everyday and the cleaning lady was so kind. There is also a train and bus station not far from the hotel for cheap public transportation. I took full advantage of this. There is also a hot tub next to the pool that I saw a lot of runners taking full advantage of after the race. They also has shuttle transportation to and from the hotel to the race start line and finish line. I really hope that this hotel is a host hotel next year as I plan to run this race again next year. read more

The hotel was a great choice for my stay. centrally located for the business I had to conduct. VERY approachable, friendly, accommodating, and competent staff. I did not rent a car and the hotel staff made sure I arrived at and picked up on time and had an Airport shuttle! The Breakfast had a variety of selections to choose from for most eating habits. Unlike a few other properties, the room and free Internet...all of them worked flawlessly. Complementary dinner & breakfast, professional front desk, room was spacious & clean. Pleasant stop on my road trip. OK, let me just say that Salt Lake City is the only place I've gotten free dinner at hotels. Sure, the style is dated, but that's part of the charm in a traditional, conservative and historic culture. And free doesn't mean filet mignon au poivre, it means a simple classic meal for each day of the week: ham, mashed & veggie medley in this case. It reminded me of cafeteria fare when I was 10 (long time ago), but I finally ate my Lima beans, and it turns out they're not as bad as I remember. The hallways are a bit reminiscent of Barton Fink, but the room had a modern TV, comfy sitting area, sensible bathroom & sink arrangement and the air conditioning settings were perfect all night. The one outlier was a large male dinner guest who dined shirtless. Fortunately I had finished before the staff saw him. And, really, in the summer, maybe it doesn't matter. read more

I first came to this hotel around 15 years ago. We chose it primarily for its close access to Snowbird ski resort and free airport shuttle. It was great then and is excellent now! Included in your stay are free shuttles to/from the airport and nearby restaurants (they will even pay for your cab fare if you need a ride after their hotel shuttle closes), free hot breakfast AND dinner, and free wi-fi. Every staff member was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The jacuzzi closes at 11:00 pm and towels are provided. The only snafus we had were that we were initially given a room that had not been cleaned and then given room keys that didn't work for the new room. The elevator is pretty slow. After you press the button for your floor, it takes about 15 seconds for the doors to close so don't think it is broken! The rooms are clean with coffee maker, refrigerator and good TVs. If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel close to the ski resorts in Little Cottonwood Canyon with a lot of extras included, I highly recommend Crystal Inn. read more

There is a lot to like about this hotel, including central location, spacious rooms, a complementary hot breakfast and light dinner. It's too bad we couldn't get decent housekeeping, though, even after complaining about it. Three times out of the six nights we were there, we came back to nicely spread and tucked beds, only to find they hadn't had the bottom sheet smoothed. Photos below show what we found when we folded the top bedclothes back to get in. A fourth time (the day I complained), the quilt was tucked so far under the foot of the bed that I couldn't pull it up past my waist, and the fifth day was Christmas, so housekeeping was only available by special request. We actually didn't mind that. This is our last night here, and in addition to the badly made beds, the other photo below shows how the bathroom looked after housekeeping was here. Edit: I went to the front desk to present this feedback in person, and was immediately introduced to the GM, who had just read the review. I was impressed that she took it as an opportunity to accept accountability and provide extra training to her staff. She was very pleasant and sincerely apologized, even offering compensation for the inconvenience. I have therefore reconsidered and raised my rating. We will stay there again. read more

Overall overpriced but clean. Staff was very nice. Pricing did not match bill. Place was clean with a big breakfast but not much variety. They definitely didn't have anything for people with food allergies. Their prices online did not match what they were when I called or what they actually charged me when I showed up. Got the bill and was like this is not what the lady said. No refund or anything but they offered to drop the next night down a little bit but that doesn't help if your stay was over and you were leaving town. read more

Checking in, the front desk clerk was wonderful. She was willing to allow me to check in an hour early. She had such a great attitude and super friendly. The breakfast was really great as well. My issue that happened was about 2 1/2 hours after I checked in, a random guy just walked into my room unannounced! He did NOT knock and identify himself before using a key but just helped himself and walked in. Found out later that he was the Assistant General Manager of the hotel??? He stated that he was checking the room for maintenance and forgot that I had checked in already??? This hotel was a little dated, but nice. The guy at the front desk was helpful, but a little hard to understand because he talked fast and he had an accent. We were upgraded to a jacuzzi suite, which was an unexpected surprise. The room was large and comfortable. It was also very quiet. Breakfast was good and tasty, but the dining area was super crowded, so people had to eat in the lobby or take their food to their room. The wait staff were clearing things as fast as they could, but they seemed a bit overwhelmed. Along with the indoor pool, there was a hot tub, which we enjoyed. This hotel is definitely my "go-to" when I am traveling through the Salt Lake City area. They are always super sweet at check-in and have been more than accommodating with my travel companions, mainly my two adult cats. They offer complimentary bottled water, peanuts and chocolate upon check-in. The rooms I have stayed in have always been super neat, tidy and clean to where I wonder if I am paying extra for the luxury the accommodation provides. Their complimentary breakfast isn't anything fancy, but it gets the job done and even the kitchen staff are wonderful! I pretty much refuse to stay anywhere else when in the area. read more

The staff was very courteous and helpful. The Dinner Shuttle was a very nice amenity. The pool and hot tub are great apes ski. The breakfast was great and the light dinner was adequate. They have an assortment of goodies in coolers at reasonable prices near the front desk. The Marie Calendars chicken pot pie was surprisingly good and the Ice Cream Sandwiches were a nice dessert. They have a great ski locker for storage. I think the only issue is the towels in our room were frayed and tattered. It's time to replace them! My family and I had made reservations to stay here in early Aug 2018. Upon arrival, we ran into some problems with our reservation. The two girls working the front desk were a bit rude and condescending. However, they called the manager out, and he was amazing. I wish I would've caught his name, but all I can describe him as is having dark hair and a beard. He was so kind & helpful, and made us feel much better about the entire situation. The hotel itself was nice. Breakfast and a light dinner are included, which is a huge bonus when you're traveling with 3 boys. Pool was a bit small and crowded, but the kids enjoyed it. Room was clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed our stay, and we'll be back next time we're traveling through that part of Utah. read more

My first impression when I arrived at the Crystal Inn in Murray, Utah, was this place is old and in need of an update. No complimentary coffee available or chilled water in the lobby. Upon entrance to our room, I felt the same. Old, dark and depressing. I booked the room for 3 adults, so you would think that 3 towels, wash clothes etc. would be in the room. Nope. Only 2. Also, no bedding was left for the pull out sofa. When I went to pick up the phone on the night stand to call the front desk, it was sticky and covered in dust and grim. Disgusting. On the second day there, I requested housekeeping services for the next day. Did not get the requested services. I will say the young girl and the desk with the multiple facial piercings was very accommodating and brought towels and supplies to our room. The breakfast was food. That is the best I can say. The same selection all 4 days. No yogurt, no waffles. A large tub of Country Crock to spread on your toast. The only grab and go fruit was some poor looking apples. The carpets in the hallway were dirty and stained. It is crystal clear, I won't be staying at the Crystal Inn on my next visit to Utah. read more

We were really pleased with our King Sweet! Being able to book a private Pool/spa for one hour in times like this is a great move on their part. As for the chemical smell in the 2nd floor hallway and the breakfast being shut down I'm sure is a bit of a necessary thing with Covid and all. What is there not to like? Great convenient location.. free shuttle to and from the airport.. and that is rare unless you are at a hotel very close to the airport. The rooms are comfortable.. clean.. spacious... and the staff is kind. Breakfast AND a light dinner. Often I can see the mountains from my room. I like this place. It's dated. Nothing fancy.. and It has grown on me very much. This place is great but when you check-in request a room that is not on the side of the Red Cross building for two reasons: 1) BRIGHT sign that reads 'Give Blood' and 2) a big Ace trash truck comes by EVERY morning at 3:45am to pick-up their two large trash bins, which makes a loud enough bang (times two) to wake everyone up....Ugh! We've stayed at this location several times as it's close to family in the area. In Feb 2016 we stayed here also and had poor housekeeping experience but returned giving them the benefit of the doubt. We booked again recently and stayed for a week over Thanksgiving. We referred family also they stayed in rooms as well. Check in was fine, ground floor room. I'm sad to report this stay was again disappointing. To start, they leave very little in the room for guests. If you want lotion you have to get it from the front desk which they give out sparingly. The dog hair on the carpets was disgusting like they didn't even vacuum. But the worst part was the housekeeping. There were times we were gone ALL DAY from 9:30am-10pm and they never cleaned our room. For our 7 night stay I think they cleaned 2 or 3 times and it was basic, barely picked up. For example, we straighten out the sheets in the morning when we wake up and they didn't make or even touch either bed. Our trash was overflowing and we had to keep calling for towels and soap. For thanksgiving day we were given the notice under our door that housekeeping was upon request only and limited to allow them time off. They offered a DVD rental in return. While I understand it's a holiday they are open and in a service industry of hospitality. We are paying to be on vacation. I don't think in that profession they should cut or reduce service. When we went to the front desk to talk about our reservation and ask for lotion we were asked to wait while they answered the phone. He did not answer and put them on hold but instead took care of that guests reservation entirely before finishing up with us while we stood there. I'm not one to complain and have returned over and over again. I know I can easily make my bed but that is one of the small things I appreciate and look forward to when I pay to be on vacation. The breakfast is a nice benefit and the price is reasonable but it's run down and needs some refreshing. We travel to this area 2-3 times a year. There are several similar hotel in the area we will be looking at considering our latest experience. 2 stars is generous. read more

The place is a dump. Based on the reviews I was looking forward to our visit. After staying here, I honestly believe the 5-star ratings are phonies. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe people in Salt Lake don't get out much, but there is no way this shack rates 5 stars; The atmosphere screams "Rundown '80s". The walls in our room were paper-thin. We were here for a wedding, and were impressed not just by the great value, but the terrific service. The staff were all super friendly and helpful, even when I did something dumb, like get stuck between the two sets of automatic doors. Rooms were clean, the a/c was strong (necessary given the 100 degree temps during our stay), the free breakfast and dinners a plus, and the proximity to the freeway was perfect for our planned adventures in Park City and LCC. read more

I stayed at Crystal Inn for about 4 days, from 21-25 of April '14, I was visiting for work. The check-in was smooth, front desk was always friendly and welcoming. Room was very decent size, clean, and bedding was comfortable and plush. Room had free internet, free breakfast, free light dinner, big flat screen HD TV, mini fridge, and microwave. The room was divided in two parts by a small wall in between, separating the couch area/study area from the bed area. You CAN NOT get better amenities than these for this price. I have worked in hospitality industry and have seen many hotels/resorts. I know the challenges of maintaining a successful hotel. I can definitely say that Crystal Inn staff does a great job of investing best efforts in keeping their customers happy. After work, every evening I tried to explore the area. I asked the front desk for good places to dine, places to visit and she gave me information, including directions, names of places and maps (as she was local to the area). How nice is that! I see some negative reviews below. I guess some people are confused with the hotel names, there is one more hotel with similar name by downtown area. Overall, great location, great staff..ohh and I forgot to mention..I had this amazing view of Big Cottonwood mountains from my window. It was totally relaxing. Thank you staff! read more

The Crystal Inn is a great travelers hotel. It is conveniently located just off the freeway, lots of restaurants nearby, and reasonably quiet. This moderately priced hotel was clean, had free wifi, and very friendly staff. I was disappointed by the free breakfast. The eggs, sausage, and potato dish were dreadful. The fresh fruit, pastries, and drinks were fine. Don't serve a meal unless you can do it correctly. Everything else about the hotel was great. read more

I've traveled all over the world... ALL THE TIME. I just came back from my yearly Ski trip. When we ski Utah... we stay here... I love the place... breakfast is nice (no awards there) but it is FREE, they serve a light dinner... also FREE... which is great since we are so tired to go anywhere... it's just fine.... keep in mind that NO hotels gives a dinner (light).... much less for free. No... if you want a 5 Star hotel.. then go to the Four Seasons and pay $350.00 per night. But if you are looking to a CLEAN, NICE, place... come here.. you'll love it.... Super Clean - Great TV Channels, Fridge, Ice Machines in all Floors, Plenty of Towels, Microwave in the rooms, Great Heater, Really CLEAN, CLEAN CLEAN. BTY - No housecleaning on Sunday..... If youre not picky and need some quick energy for the slopes, this is not bad. My girlfriend and I with our dog, stayed here for three nights in October of 2019. The bed was almost as comfortable as my own bed and we slept well. Even though our room was right next to the ice machine and elevator, you couldn't hear either at all. The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean. We didn't eat the light dinner they provide, but the breakfast was satisfying and delicious, much better than other hotels we have stayed at. Vanessa was wonderful while booking our stay! We will definitely be returning the next time we are in the Salt Lake Valley. read more
