I stayed here July 26-28, 2023 for a business trip. My colleague recommended it and I was skeptical at first because Courtyards are known as "average" hotels. This Courtyard is located near Big Cottonwood Canyon and is definitely "above average." I'm a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member. Typically I like staying at Marriott's AC Hotels because they tend to be newer and modern in design. Courtyard's tend to be a bit older and a step down from AC's. But this newer property has AC vibes. The hotel's back drop is a view of the Wasatch mountains - absolutely stunning. Upon check-in, the front desk staff was welcoming, friendly and professional. They have a decent sized fitness center (open 24 hours - slightly bigger than most Courtyard fitness centers) adjacent to the outdoor pool. Parking is complimentary. The only food option is The Bistro Bar which offers a mix of shareable plates that are perfect for a pre or post dinner snack, as well as heartier entrees for a full meal. There's coffee and breakfast items, as well as an actual bar. If you ever visit SLC, I highly recommend booking your stay at The Courtyard Marriott in Cottonwood Heights.

Everything could improve. FYI, this is all extremely true…read moreand definitely a rant. Sorry up front. :/ It's unfortunate when you have to take the time to post a bad review. We are sweeties. It's time-consuming and it doesn't really actually feel that great. But to not post this information would be sort of irresponsible. It started with the staff. Oddly without soul and unfriendly. The amenities were meh and did not work. The hot tub was cold and murky cloudy.... The lightbulbs in the room were burned out. But the worst part of our experience came when the general manager of the hotel, Mira doubted the authenticity of our Service Animal and actually even suggested that she would call the police to come and authenticate our Pet. Ha. Wait what?!? That would not even be a problem if we had time or energy to entertain such a ridiculous notion. The best thing about this hotel was the fact that they let us out of our reservation. Long story short, before that crazy threat, they moved us to a different room to make up for the cold water in the shower and the grody, cold jacuzzi. We appreciated that but it was one of only one solutions. We packed up and moved all of our things. Pivoting...Let's just go ride and enjoy. Perfect! Sadly, we were not able to do that because the door of our new room was nonfunctioning as well. Two hours later, we are still watching the maintenance guys passionately try to get the door to work. They were really sweet and you could tell they wanted to get the door working so that we could go.. So there we are now trying to talk to the general manager Mira regarding our Service Animal. It was too late in the day to find a dog sitter which normally we would use called Rover. Waiting for them to get the door to function...We asked her to consider allowing us to leave our dog in the room for a couple hours being that we were in this predicament and the door still wasn't working and we had to move all of our things due to no hot water in the shower. It's actually too long of a story, but the GM ultimately suggested that she would call the police and made up some sort of ridiculous exaggeration about our 10 pound dog lunging at someone. NEVER HAPPENED. She also suggested that our registered Service Animal must not actually be legitimate. We showed our documents and even then we never got any kind of understanding or apology for the accusation. At the end of the day, it's an overpriced property with old amenities and a cold, mean staff. Oh and of course, the door thing. We left before the door was ever functioning. It was so much time spent asking for fixes, bulbs and functioning key cards. Being looked at like we were A holes. Like we were irrational kooks causing problems for them. :( So: Time consuming, and the staff wasn't friendly or even understanding. We weren't looking for massive apologies, but kindness would have been nice. Way too much time was spent going up and down from room to desk. Non functioning keys, no hot water in room, and the cloudy, cold hot tub. It's like this: if you're lucky enough to be let out of your reservation and book a property with working basics and a friendly vibe, you are winning. Or even better, just don't book it. Sorry Hampton Cottonwood. A bad representation of a reliable brand. Mira came across as passive aggressive, condescending and the threat of calling the Utah police was jaw dropping. Service animals do not respond well to people reaching out to them while they are working. It's just part of it. This is the absolute opposite of a lack of training and authenticity with a Service Animal. Which is what she was trying to put on us. A working service animal will give a controlled bark to notify a stranger not to pet or engage. A bark. No lunging. Our service pet has a working dog harness. Says in bold print DO NOT PET. The DOT license is also on the harness. So Mira, a suggestion... Practice kindness. Why the condescending tone? Maybe consider that guests coming to the property are happy to be there and ready to enjoy their stay. The thing is, we would've stayed after our move...if the door would have been finished. Ever. But Mira and her trippy control thing, the odd behavior at reception, threats of law enforcement... false accusations and the broken, cold jacuzzi..... Nah. Line drawn. Swear this is all true and was consistent with the demeanor when we called 24 hours prior to booking and spoke to Sepi. And same same with a girl called Adia. Best way to describe the tone is classic "zero F's given". Yeah, that's it. In Spanish we say Sin Alma. (Without Soul). In Venice we would just say why is that chick such a B itch?!? Are we wrong? Nope. Fair question.

Breakfast always had eggs, cereals, and bread, which is enough for us. We also took advantage of the couple restaurants within walking distance. We'd definitely go back when skiing in the area.

The room is clean, I'll give it that. But there are a few things you can't ignore…read more This hotel room has to be the strangest layout I've seen in a hotel in a long time. For starters, storage space, there is ONE SMALL CLOSET in the entrance area and ONE DRESSER. You may think you're getting a big closet in the bedroom but no, it's just an empty box with nothing but a light and light switch, no rails, racks, or shelves. Second, the thermostat, there are two ways to change the temperature in the room, the bedroom uses the wall thermostat meanwhile the entrance area needs to use the window unit? Third, the awkward spacing, there are huge areas with nothing in them, leaving big empty areas without any furniture making it feel like a liminal space. I am writing this in the room, sitting in a chair facing one of the empty spaces. I've stayed in shoebox sized rooms with better layouts than this. I would also like to add that we checked in around 5:30 PM and they still had us wait to make sure the room was ready, which is strange seeing how late it was into the day, but I don't hold this with as much importance even though it doesn't help.

Brighton's a pretty resilient ski resort, still snowing here in mid to late April, despite Solitude…read moreright next to it getting rain instead and having to end their season much sooner. Brighton's so deep in the mountains, it was getting even more snow than Alta or Snowbird late season. Nonetheless, most of the skiable area was closed from late April on, and they had some really sticky slush near the bottom. I went here on the week of April 20th (the stoner holiday) not thinking anything of it, and have never seen such a high concentration of intoxicated, degenerate, drug-obsessed college kids and degenerate behavior. These kids were consuming alcohol on the runs, making fun of, laughing at and humiliating beginners, and couldn't stop chairlift blabbing about jumping people, buying alcohol underaged, and "whippets" or however you spell it, their apparent drug of choice. Having an Ikon Pass and going to Alta that same week, I wanted to find the explanatory factor for the extreme disparity in guests between here and Alta that particular week. I looked online and saw Brighton was selling day passes for only $49, and marketing their late season as an event, "The Meltdown", geared toward younger people looking to party. Most of the staff here were nice and professional, with one exception. This attractive blonde girl working here was rude and standoffish when I asked what time they close, as they kept changing the closing time, seemingly on a daily basis, and nobody seemed to know. Different websites said different times and their closing time varies by day of the week, time of the season, weather, even by lift or section of the mountain, so it was like a Scooby-Doo mystery trying to figure it out. Then to get an attitude like "What... what time do we close?! You're hitting on me?!! You can't think of a better pickup line than that?! You know how many pickup lines I hear a day??" Probably not the right person to be working in hospitality. On the upside, the night skiing and tree skiing were exceptional here when I went earlier in the season, and the girl I took said this was her favorite resort. When I tried taking her to Snowbird she had a panic attack, saying it was too steep, and had to have ski patrol take her down in the basket, so Brighton's probably more beginner friendly.
