Crepes A Go Go is a great quick bite for lunch. Located in Ponsonby Central it's a cute small stall inside, with a couple of sharing tables and a bar table that sits in front of the stall itself. The owners who originate from France aim to bring a taste of France to NZ serving savoury and sweet, galettes and crepes made from buckwheat, which is a great option for those who are gluten free. Between the two of us we shared 1 savoury galette and 1 sweet crepe. What's a great idea are the pizza cutters that are served on the side. It makes it easier to slice smoothly and neatly to share the crepes evenly. The crepes themselves were good especially since they are made of buckwheat. The fillings weren't extraordinary but they are what you can expect when ordering a crepe, plus they are something light to eat. For the price and the size they were fitting and would go back to crepes a go go again for a quick bite. If you're really hungry I suggest ordering 3 crepes between two people. Lovely service and something light to eat if you're in Ponsonby. The crepe master at work! The smell is heavenly..

A great new addtion to Ponsonby Central, Crepes A Go-Go is located right at the back of the building, next to Eighthirty. It's easiest - provided it's not manic - to park out back and then it's just in the door on your left. The have a tonne of different crepes and galettes - at least 10 savoury and sweet options - and the guys and girls who work here are actually French. God, I love French accents! Since it was my first time I opted for a relatively safe option - a croque monsieur. It was huuuge and delicious - full of tasty free farmed pork and stringy cheese. The perfect hangover cure! There's a couple of bar seats around if you want to eat in but my date and I decided to take our crepes to the park down the road and eat them on the park seats - much more pleasant if it's nice out!

Who doesn't crave a lovely crêpe once in a while? Well, if you find yourself in Ponsonby Central, Crêpes A Go-Go has got you covered. They have a nice selection of savory and sweet crêpes (veggie options too) - prepared in front of you amidst french banter (this helps in the authenticity department). Crêpes are presented on wooden cutting boards, pizza cutter knife included. They use organic buckwheat for the batter and you can get a free range egg for an extra $1.50. I went for the "Taste of Provence" with creamy feta, tomatoes, olive oil and fresh basil ($10). Very good. I also noticed that they offer a 10% discount for those students among us, nice. With tons of options at PC, I can't proclaim this my all-time favorite but, if you are after a pancake francaise, this is your jam. Tip: there's a small bar seating area around the crepe-making station and a large shared table behind it - but beware, most tables in PC are "free for all" and sometimes finding a spot isn't so "facile" ;)

Chocolate Addiction (Nutella). I've eating crêpes wrong this whole time.

I heard French being spoken so I was immediately drawn in. That, and I happen to love crêpes. Totally missed out on the fact that they had galettes (savory crêpes) available, so I opted for the Nutella crêpe since you can't go wrong when Nutella is involved. I grabbed a seat at the "free-for-all" table, and watched the chef do his thing. He handed out a couple of crêpes before mine, one appeared to be a Chocoberry (chocolate, berry sauce and whipped cream) which looked like red and white heaven. I received mine, thanked him in French, after which he got really excited. "Je parle un peu (I speak a little)," I told him, so that he didn't get too carried away. Armed with my pizza slicer and fork, I dove in. I was trying to match the pace of the couple across from me so I didn't appear to scarf the crêpe down. I tried to savor it, really I did, but when it's that tasty, you just want it all in your mouth right then. I was sad that it was gone, handing my wooden board back to the chef. "C'est bon?" he asked. "Superb," I replied, showing the quintessential "OK" sign and winking. Waving and saying "à bien tôt", I knew then I had to come back.

CONCEPT: Fresh Crepes made to orders. A selection of savory or sweet. Can eat there or takeaway. Presentation of Crepes have been considered and I find is the highlight. Served on a wooden board with pizza cutter and fork. DESIGN: Compact. Cooking, prep, point of sales, seating are all squeezed into a small area. Can accommodate for about16 people (counted haha). Bulkhead design is okaaaaay, it's a collage that is quite distracting to the menu and the logo. Open theatre kitchen where customers can sit in front of a glass upstand and get lost in the Crepes making process (4 or 5 seater). Large wooden communal high table with long bench seats can seat 12 hungry adults. TASTE: okaaaaaaaaaaaaay but only because I ordered something very normal? Their savory Crepes do sound amazingggg but I only tried the plain Nutella banana crepe. Don't get me wrong, I can live off Nutella and bananas (and maybe some gym) but I feel like I paid $7.50 for the experience rather than the food? HYPE: high. Is it me or is Auckland really good at hyping things up? CONCLUSION: check it out. I would go again to try them savory Crepes (and potentially change to a 4 star rating) then probably go find more food to eat in that area (because why not Hahaha)

Sweet temptation - sugar and passion fruit curd

In the Ponsoby area, this is the perfect place to grab a quick snack or a light breakfast before you get going. They have a small stall in the food market and an expansive menu of sweet and savory crepes. I went with a simple passion fruit curd crepe, while my boyfriend was more adventurous with a maple and bacon topped crepe. The base crepe is thin, light, and only just slightly sweet (which I think is pretty good, as far as crepes go). The passion fruit curd was delightfully tart and was, in my opinion, a perfect topping. To add even more to your experience, they serve the crepe on a wood block with a dainty pizza cutter for what can only be described as an instagram-able plating experience.

We actually went back for more. The cheese and ham croissant was flakey, warm with gooey Camembert and a generous amount of ham. I had the braised ox tail on custard which is served with a few slices of fresh baguette. The braised ox was gelatinous and salty, the custard smooth and creamy set into the serving bowl, on top were pickled mushrooms adding a much welcome tangy refreshing way to cut through all the other richness. I'm not usually a fan of micro greens, but these were pretty tasty fresh and added texture. DELICIOUS! I only wish the serve was larger. Will definitely return because I saw many tasty looking soups being served and want to try more.

Being lunch time, I knew we would have no problem walking in without a booking, and I was seated with my friends at a nice long table at the front corner in front of the bar. Our menu's were handed out promptly as we entered and our drink orders taken also a few minutes after being seated. The lunch menu, I found had a little bit of everything French and provided you with savory and sweet crepes, entree soups, snails, cheese or meat sample boards, pate and bread, sandwiches, and delicious French salads. All at a very reasonable price may I add. I decided on a French onion soup, and a sweet crepe with toasted coconut and chocolate sauce. My soup was perfection, as I would expect no less in a French restaurant, and my crepe, was soft, and delicate, and laced with pure sweet sensation. I love the decor, its French and arty, and you truly feel as though you could be seated somewhere in Paris. Great service, and scrumptious food, I will be definitely be back here again. We both could not resist the Boeuf Bourguignon - divine. We almost didn't have dessert until we spied "le café gourmand" - a trio of mini desserts - crème brulee, chocolate mousse and a crepe plus an espresso and two spoons! Superb and very reasonably priced at $10.50. In fact the prices overall are very reasonable. Just over $100 for the two of us. A glass of excellent Bourgogne Pinot Noir for me and a Bordeaux Merlot for Rebecca completed a fantastic meal. Authentic Paris on our doorstep. Neither of us had been to Antoine's but have both heard lots about owner and chef Tony Astle. (who happened to be working the kitchen that night) The reservation went smooth, until they called back to confirm the afternoon we were due to dine. I missed the call but called the number back guessing what/who called I got a really confused staff member on the other end of the line who barely spoke intelligible English who was sure I wanted to book a table of six (when I was calling back to confirm my booking for a table of two) We arrived still laughing at the strange phone call, and stood at the steps after knocking on the door (??? yeah we wtf'd) ushered in to the little waiting room (??? again wtf) we peeled our coats off to have them stored away and shown to our (very small) table covered in white linen... in a bookish dining room that felt rather grandmotherly... the ambiance was hushed whispers and "don't touch anything, and sit up with your back straight"... The kind of fancy pants pompatry that I feared as a kid. The food... it wasn't outstanding certainly not what you'd expect for $$$$$... with all the great food and dining that's out there in Auckland today... my salmon gazpacho sort of looked at its feet shoved its hands in its pockets shrugged and heaved an apologetic sigh. The duck l'orange was boring and coyly sweet and a little dry... The oxtail was pretty bold and flavorful and wonderfully aromatic, fall off the bone delicious but it wasn't enough to redeem the rest of the experience. The dessert was pleasant at best. The wait staff was servile and theatrically trite... and didn't know when asked simple questions regarding the dishes... but knowledge about the wine was pretty good once you get past the thick accents. The strangest moment of all was at the end of the night going to pay... this place doesn't take eftpos, and the credit card went through an old zip zap (kids do you even know what this is???) and you're handed a hand filled receipt. It completed our time warp and we headed back through the doors to a world post Robert Muldoon and Margaret Thatcher. Pockets $445 (inc 120 for wine) lighter hardly feeling like we got our moneys worth... perhaps that is the cost for time travel.

The brioche was freshly warm and soft but not too rich. The croissant was on the verge, somewhat stale around the edges but still enjoyable. La Voie Francaise also boasts an inviting atmosphere that's relaxing but well kempt.
