Their was a sign in the meat area, $1.99Lb for pork ribs. I asked the butcher where are these ribs because the ribs on top of the sign read $2.99 Lb. He could not find them. The butcher supervisor came and said this sale is over. I asked him if he would honor the price and he said no then proceeded to cut up the sign in my face. Beware of prices and freshness. read more

This market reminds me of the tiny supermarkets I had to endure in New York City. It's got a lot of character, and actually is interesting; but bring patience. The aisles are far too narrow. The stock-clerks will block a whole aisle with a project and not respond to polite requests to "excuse me." So frustrated, in fact, was best buddy on a recent visit, he screamed at an employee who failed to respond to us -- he wasn't ready to walk all the way around (neither was I). The market has a modest but very nicely outfitted prepared-food and deli counter, as you enter. Latin specialties bask in the spot-light here. Shrimp salad is wonderful. Other salads are hit-or-miss. Rice and beans always pleases. We don't often order cold cuts, here, however. The shelves hold many surprises. Who'd have thought that we could obtain so many neat, exotic things in a workhorse-style downtown superette? Examples are the wide variety of juice specialties (get your peach nectar for Bellini cocktails here). They also have Clamato juice, which we've been known to insinuate into Vodka, along with some Tabasco, for a delicious cocktail. The butcher shop doesn't carry very good beef, nor chicken (no Perdue, here). However, it's the place to buy pork! Prices are great, and the variety of meat and variety meat (yep, tripe rears its ugly head) is superb. Check-out is rapid and pleasant. And C-Town supermarkets offer delivery. It's not quite the way I remember -- grocery delivery in New York was "call, and they send it right to your apartment." C-Town asks that you come down, shop for the food, and check-out. They, they'll take you home (if your order is $50 or more). So it's not true delivery service (but great if you've had a few drinks downtown, need groceries, and want a free ride home). All in all we're happy with this ethnic store -- for that reason, and as a general grocery shopping destination as well. Go here (if you're in the neighborhood) and you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

Small-scale supermarkets like CTown are downright pervasive in large cities like New York and Boston. Frankly, I had grown accustomed to avoiding them, rendering them as the crappy neighborhood supermarket where the locals shop out of necessity. But upon moving to New Britain, I became "the locals." And while I don't shop here out of necessity, I've been pleasantly surprised to find that CTown is a cute little supermarket; a nice place to pick up a few things for relatively cheap. I'd say they shine in the meat department above all else. There are no bad prices, and there's a nice selection of fresh beef, chicken, pork, and other meats. Cheaper cuts such as chicken legs go for as little as $1.19 a pound. Nice! The produce is not bad... some interesting selections that are typical to Latin American cooking - plantains, jicama, aloe leaves and such. They also have some stuff that's unique to the store, e.g. some really cheap coffee brands which are not bad considering the cost... I'll gladly take 10 ounces of ground coffee for $2.50 which is no worse than the stuff you get at a diner. It's a nice diversion from your usual Stop&Shop and Target. read more

Wanted a quick lunch and went for the hot bar. Got white rice and beans and pernil. All of it had little to no flavor and the pernil was greasier than usual. The food at the East Hartford CTown is much better. read more

Parking is an issue however the food is GREAT! The service is a little slow but well worth it. C-Town in New Britain makes the best sandwiches and ask them to have it toasted, you'll like it. They also have a few types of pastries but haven't tried any yet. read more

Amazing service , everybody's is so nice and polite , i find all my meats and groceries there , they also have the freshest produce I've seen . They have an amazing hot food service with breakfast lunch and dinner , on my lunch break i usually get my sandwiches there and sometimes just to switch it up I get my hot food there as well , there fast customer service is excellent and there always a manager as well as an owner onsite for all your needs , I wanted an item from my country and the Maneger had it in no less then 2 days there , I will recommend this store to anyone , Iam acutely on my way there right now , amazing service and service 5 stars all the way read more
