I was in Paris for a few days and I needed a place that opened up late, served food, coffee and cigars. Cubana Café was just 2 miles away from where I was staying and I pretty much went there every night to unwind and also meet a couple business partners. The atmosphere was extremely amazing. This review is long overdue. I visited Cubana Cafe in the Spring of this year and unfortunately I do not recall exactly what I ate with my friend here. Prices were reasonable as I recall and I do not recall the food was objectionable. However, I recall it was crowded when we entered and we had to wait at the bar for a table. So we had classic mojitos to start that were not the strongest. They were good, but nothing exceptional. This place has lots of energy largely fueled by the music and after some time, folks were dancing in whatever square centimeter available. One enters on the right side of the establishment which has the bar on the right side going all the way to the rear. Every bar stool was occupied with people standing in between. There are a few tables to the left as you proceed the length of the bar to the rear and the main dining area is at the rear on the left. It is dark and you will need your phone light to illuminate the menu, unless you have good and young eyes. The decor is warm and enveloping. This is a cozy spot. There are cigar cases here and there and other paintings and posters with Cuban themes on the walls the dimly lit tables by candlelight contribute to the warmth. Catch this place early if you want a more romantic vibe when it is not so loud and crowded. After about eight or nine, I am guessing this place shifts into party mode with the well chosen salsa, merengue, bachata, and Cuban playlist. If you come here desiring a more laid back smoking experience, continue left and around through the dining area in the back and through a French style glass door into another dining area with smoking. The overall layout is horseshoe shaped with this laid back smoking area on the left side of the place, separate from the bar and main dining area so patrons can choose whether they want smoking or non smoking. Had we known this at first, we may have opted to eat on the left side where it is considerably quieter and a proper conversation can be had without straining and screaming when the other side up- shifts. I enjoyed a relaxing Trinidad Fundadores on this side after dinner and I was not charged a cutting fee. The dual sided Cubana Cafe presents one the option of having two distinct experiences and at relatively fair prices. I am giving it three and a half stars, but that could be easily revised upwards when I visit again and have a wider experience with their food and drinks. This is a place I would revisit many times and certainly would be a regular if I lived in Paris. It's fairly unique in my estimation for Paris, which does not have much Latin flavor from my frequent visits. Great vibe at the bar and they have cigar smoking area too. Salsa music was a nice touch. We had the pollo asado with platanos and emperador fish with tostones. Tasted great. My boyfriend and I stopped here on a recommendation of a friend of ours and to be quite honest, the food was subpar. The Yuca wasn't as soft as it should've been and a bit dry. The chorizo that came with it was so coated in oil that it felt I was just eating oil so I only had one piece of it. I ordered the whole fish, it was ok. It wasn't seasoned at all and the rice was over cooked. My bf got the swordfish and he said it was ok, pretty underwhelming. Their drinks were ok, I got a few mojitos that tasted more like juice than anything, and my bf got beers. The service was good, they checked on us often, but the food was just very underwhelming. This place is right downstairs from my hotel so I decided to try it out. My partner in crime aka my travel buddy is in bed sick today so I'm dining by my lonesome self. FYI I know zero French fml but the menu is in Spanish so that I understand thankfully! It's a cute little restaurant that looks more like a pub. It has Cuban paintings on the wall, Spanish music playing, dim lighting, dark coloured decor, full bar with lots of bottles displayed, and the menu is in both Spanish and French. I got the shrimp which came with rice, plantain, and salad. The rice was too little of a portion compared to the portion of the stewed shrimp. As for taste, it was okay-- definitely not authentically Cuban tasting but it wasn't bad, plantain was fried to perfection, rice and salad were good, and the side of bread was also good (which I used to eat with the leftover stew once the rice was done). Service was also good. My waitress could tell I didn't speak French so she made her best effort to speak English and/or Spanish LOL. My food arrived probably around 15 minutes after ordering and it came piping hot which I always appreciate as you can generally tell it's freshly cooked that way. I actually really liked the atmosphere here--very relaxing, comfortable chairs, not loud, and good music--so instead of going back up to my hotel room (as I can't travel alone because I'll probably get lost not speaking French), I decided to stick around and drink a Cubana Chantilly My niece aka partner in crime aka travel buddy came two hours later (yes, I've been here a while), got the pollo asado which she said was really good. She didn't think her food tasted authentically Cuban but nonetheless was tasty. I would actually give this place a 3.5 but since that's not an option on Yelp (pls address this!), I decided to go with three stars. This definitely wasn't four star food but I liked my waitress, and like I said, the atmosphere was great. How'd it taste? Actually really good! The problem? It was all whipped cream and almost no cafe. If I'm paying €4,50 for a cafe I'd like there to be some cafe in there, just sayin'.... I also got some mojitos which didn't taste like mojitos--I noticed in Europe, my experiences at least, they don't use any sugar water or any sweeter in their mojitos--but I like whatever it was as an alcoholic drink nonetheless. Last I was here, we sat in a back room, enjoying the ambiance and making conversation. Music wasn't bad. No idea about their food. Cuban cigars! This cozy, romantic smoky lounge is your next stop after you have dinner across the street at Le Parc au Cerf, which I also recommend. Go to Cubana Cafe especially if you're a cigar aficionado and love Latin music. Comfy leather chairs and cozy niches gives it a homey feel. Smoking is banned at indoor restaurants in France but if you have a special "smoke house" room like Cubana Cafe then its allowed. If you forgot your Cohiba's, not too worry, plenty available here to purchase. I've been here several times and I always plan on making this one of my stops. They make the best Mojito's! Six mohitos, some great tapas, and good conversation resulting in a small world experience sealed the deal for us @ Cubana Cafe. 3.5 stars They are trying, but don't totally hit the mark. The menu and drink list have some traditional Cuban specialties like black beans and plantains. But, like most "ethnic" restaurants in France, everything gets frenchified. At many other places, it's clear that they actually have no idea what real food from the respective culture is like, so you somewhat expect the food to be bad. But here it's particularly disappointing because they clearly know what Cuban food/drink should be like and have opted for the path of least resistance. That said, the food and drink we got was more than passable. The vibe is relaxed, though I imagine that it could get crowded with university students on the weekends. I'd go back if I were in the neighborhood and was looking for a decent cocktail. But, given the neighborhood, I'd probably look for a nice wine bar instead. read more

Bit of a dive bar but fun. Known for it's Mojitos although to be honest, they are below average. The restaurant in the title is for the tapas they serve late into the night. Mojitos, tapas and guacamole, oh my ! I keep going back for the picadillo, so good that even my Cuban friend agreed that it almost rivalled his grandmother's... The tapas are all very nice, if rather small, the usual array of pan con tomate, calamari and chorizo, a selection, which is varied, flavourful and never disappoints. A fun place to go with a large group - dive into the drinks and get lots of plates to share ! Only complaint is the service, which can be rather sporadic when the place gets packed. read more
