Just no! Sorry. This wouldn't work at all in the states as this is so not Mexican food. We walked a lot this particular day and we wanted to have some comfort food so here we go. To start we ordered and Iced coffee and that was the first mistake from a list of quite a few. It was so not iced coffee in the least, and if you serve Iced coffee in any Mexican restaurant it should have the taste of cinnamon. But that's neither here nor there as this wasn't the brunt of what the experience was. Ordered a quesadilla. And oh boy here we go. The was not what I would ever call a quesadilla in the least. This was not Mexican at all so maybe this should be revisited when it comes to authenticity. Okay here goes, the spinach salad next, it was NOT spinach. Looked more like Kale and that is not typical at all. It also had some kind of meat but I can't describe it. I don't know maybe it was me but this isn't a Mexican restaurant in my eyes. The waitress was awesome and the place is cute, but Mexian food? No not at all and I wouldn't recommend this spot. Plus no one e spoke spanish! Skip this one! Great place to have a frozen margarita after watching Olympic boxing. This could be my 'resting place' after a day of running around around trying to soak up the Olympic Spirit. It isn't quite California level of Mexican ( except for the tequila and cocktails) but is is so satisfying to get this close so far away from home! read more

Great location with awesome Mexican food. I was surprised how good it was! They have margaritas like no other place I've tried here in Paris. There's happy hour so that's a huge win win. I got the Mexican burger it was good just wasn't a fan of the potato that was served with it. Salsa and Tostitos that come before your meal are better then the ones you buy at the grocery store. 1.5 stars I'm sorry, what is this whitish-green stuff? Guacamole? No, no. I'm sure you're mistaken. No? Okay then... What should I use to eat the "guacamole" with? Chips, right? Oh, I have to pay for them? Um, okay... And you referred to this thing on my plate as what? An enchilada? But enchiladas are supposed to have red or green sauce. This is sort of a strange yellow-gold-white color. Are you just kidding with me or are you serious? And this margarita I ordered - isn't it supposed to look at least somewhat like the one in the picture on the table proclaiming "8€ margaritas!"? It's half the size the of the one in the photo. I guess the photo is just there for dramatic effect? (Insert sad face and image of me not having fun anymore.) And then there was the service. Okay, so normally I complain up and down about the rude waiters in Paris. This restaurant is the only one in the city where you'll be inundated with waiters who are frighteningly attentive. And in their snazzy tight-fitting t-shirts, none the less. It's like I went through a time warp to happy hour at an Applebee's back home. Oy. But by attentive, I mean that they don't communicate with one another. Every two minutes or so a different one will end up at your table and ask you the same question that the other three servers before them asked you. In a nutshell, don't go here. If you're American here on vacation, you can wait the few days it will take you to get back home to get your Mexican fix. If you're an American living in Paris, get your fix at Rice and Beans or El Nopal or Candelaria. And if you're French looking to try Mexican food, save your money and buy a ticket to Mexico or California. read more

Overwhellmed by the block long lines at Aus de Falafel and Chez Hanna after taking in the Centre Pompidou, we fell into La Perla for their tapas menu. Pleasantly surprised to get a good Margarita, with plenty of ice and salt, not too sweet a mix, we ordered a huge and delicious burrito, and a very decent Ceasar salad with some of the very best marinated, grilled chicken I've ever had. Cool and comfortable, our window table was perfect for watching the world trek by and planning visits to the local trendy and innovative stores. Our bill was a mere 28.50 Euros! read more

Mexican food in Paris? Sí! We stopped in on a whim to escape some crowds, use the free wifi, and grab a bite. As a wine drinker, I was impressed by the wine list here. We ordered a Côtes de Provence Rosè. Yum. The food: it's a-ok. Not amazing, but certainly not leaving-you-hungry-because-you-didn't-eat-it quality. We both had the huevos rancheros. Interesting with bacon. Not so great with over-hard eggs. Order with eggs over easy and you're good to go! Add some of the spicy salsa they bring with the chips and voila: deliscioisness. I think this place is notorious for its pitchers of margarita during happy hour. It's half price until 8pm (so around 25€ for a liter), but it's a good value and above all, it's STRONG. Don't make the rookie mistake of splitting a liter of it between 2 people unless you're looking to get tipsy ;) That being said, happy hour ends quite early (8) and prices quickly jump after that (50+ euros for a pitcher is kinda steep...) Obviously, the other half of the reason why you come here is for the Mexican food. Unfortunately, it is at best underwhelming. I guess the delicious margarita set the bar kinda high for me, but I was disappointed in my food. It wasn't terrible, but it was just nothing special. This place seems to be really popular, and in nice weather, the outdoor seating fills up quickly. If you come here, get here before 8 so you can take advantage of the happy hour! read more

Dinner - October 12, 2019. The resto was busy but not full. Service was a bit slow, and wait staff not too attentive or friendly. It took forever to get a menu and to place our order. Ordered taco carnitas. The carnitas seasoning was delicious, but they gave plain white rice that's somewhat dry and boiled black beans that's so bland. Also ordered mole chicken enchilada. I expected the mole generously covering the two enchiladas; instead, what I got was probably half a spoonful of mole smeared on the enchiladas. What a shame. The mole was like an afterthought and also not good. Again, dry plain white rice, bland beans. Chips was fresh and crunchy and came with delicious salsa. Regular margarita was bad, cinnamon margarita was good. Location was perfect. As a resident of Northern California, my standard for Mexican food is set so high. read more

For 8.90 at lunch time, La Perla will give you a starter, plate and coffee, or plate, dessert and coffee, as you like. Obviously, on my trip, I went for plate, dessert and coffee. It was exciting because I didn't get to choose which plate or which dessert. I never order shrimp, so I was pleased when they brought me shrimp and some other stuff wrapped in a tortilla and drizzled in what I think they thought was Enchilada sauce. It wasn't authentic, but it was still tasty. Even tastier was the pineapple tart dessert. The interior is nice and it's easy to get to. The prices aren't awful, but you do need to go in with the mindset that it's Euro-Mexican that you'll be getting. read more

Being American and having some of the best Mexican food in my home area it was a bit of a stretch eating Mexican food in Paris. But we had walked a lot for our first day and we were hungry and tired. This bar/restaurant was the only spot in our new neighborhood we could find still open so we ordered chips with spicy salsa and guacamole as well as nachos with cheese and jalapeños. We sat on the sidewalk, theatre style. Our entertainment for the evening was watching people park the tiniest cars into the tiniest parking spots. Impressive talent! read more

I am from Texas so I have pretty high standards of anyone claiming to have Mexican food. I am here for four months so I thought I would try it to get a taste of home. The salsa was actually spicy so me and my friend got a little excited that the food would we good. The plate of the day came out and what we heard was not what we got. TO BE AVOIDED !!! A EVITER !!! I had a drink today and asked the waiter how much would be a pint panaché, so bear mixed with lemonade. He said 6,80 euros. it's expensive i thought but doable. The check came and it was 8 euros so i went to ask the barman (the bar tender, little latino guy) why the price went up. And he said it was never cheaper than 8 euros. and the waiter that misled me finished his shift before. The barman was extremely RUDE and not even tried to make it better !!! Best Mexican I've tasted so far in Paris. Great area (St. Paul/ Marais), and amazing ambiance. The poppin' Latino music is perfect for the menu choices! And yes, they have BLACK BEANS served with the enchiladas (9,40 euros). Great guacamole as well (6 or 7 euros I think). There is a subset of home chefs in France that use the following recipe for guacamole: Avocado + mayonaise, blend until smooth and liquid. It's one of those people that opened this restaurant as well as the chain of Indiana's all over Paris. While the food here is not inedible in itself, it is horrifying to receive your plate when you were expecting Mexican food. read more

Awful food, awful service, awful attitude. If you are looking for good food don't come here and if you are looking for good Mexican food even more so. The "chef" here has no idea what Mexican food is. People here don't speak French, english, or spanish... so who is this restaurant for. Waitress was insolent is her refusal to help us work around allergies and then shortchanged us in the bill, refusing to honor happy hour prices because she punched in the order exactly 1 minute before the proces started. I was completely disappointed. A group of us Americans met here for drinks and for a Mexican fix. Yeah.... not Mexican, and I am not sure even the French would think so. NO spice... I am sad to say that this resto has gone seriously downhill since my first visite there 6 years ago...back then, the margaritas were strong and good, and the food -well, pretty decent for Mexican food in Paris (I've had better at Anahuicali, on the Rue des Bernadins). The staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere crowded but not too. I spend several weeks in Paris renting an apt. every year, and love the Marais. I hadn't been back to La Perla since 2014, and when we were back at our flat this past Novembre, we decided to revisit. BAD idea. BIG mistake. Not only was it insanely crowded-unpleasantly crowded, but insanely noisy. We were seated pretty quickly, but the service was lousy, half-assed, as if the staff were doing us a huge favor. Food and drink arrived within 10 minutes (clearly just nuked)...both sucked bigtime. Drinks were weak and awful; food ditto-a limp idea of any kind of "Mexican" cuisine. And I know the original owners were actually from Mexico. Dreadful experience. We left quickly, having decided to cross this crappy place off of our "must-return" list. Don't waste your time. If you desire Mexican food while in my favorite city, definitely skip this gross, unpleasant boite. read more

When we first sat down and sampled the first free serving of chips and salsa, we thought we might have found another decent Mexican restaurant in Paris. The salsa was good and exceptionally spicy by French standards. Their drink menu is extensive, with several good choices of imported Mexican beers and various tequilas. Margaritas were a bit on the small side, but well made. And then we ordered food. Don't bother - the fact that most dishes come only with flour tortillas should have been a clue. The Huevos Rancheros were nothing but fried eggs with salad and weak guacamole thrown on top. The mole was terrible - far too sweet. The chicken taco arrived with a corn tortilla that hadn't been near a grill or frypan in a long while, and the shredded chicken inside tasted like Indian spices, not Mexican. There are a few good choices for Mexican food in Paris, but this certainly isn't one of them. read more
