Our groomer Tara left her previous location and started here over the summer and she's the only one who has groomed our dog so of course we followed her. We're in philadelphia so this is a little bit of a drive for us but we're happy to keep giving her our business. I've never seen the inside of this location so can't speak to that but our dog has just as great a groom as ever so we're happy! read more

I have been fortunate to have Cubbys care for my dogs for many years now. 15+. 4 of my dogs attended over the years and my current German Shepherd still attends. I have used daycare, boarding and grooming. All of my dogs loved the staff and daycare at Cubbys. I just had to whisper "daycare" and they came to me as fast as lightning! I love this place as much as my dogs loved it. I see negative comments about dogs not passing the evaluation. Dogs react differently in different situations and the veterinarian should know that dogs need time to "decompress". In New situations, the dog can react in ways that they normally would not react. As fun as daycare can be, it is not for every dog. Because of Cubbys safety standards I know all of my dogs were safe, well cared for and LOVED! read more

I'm a veterinarian and I am highly disappointed with Cubby's Canine Castle. My dog, a 3 year old, energetic pup, was rejected from joining their doggie day care for being "too playful". I was told he showed no signs of aggression towards any dogs or people. He's not destructive and doesn't have any resouce guarding behavior. I understand dog behavior, I was trained on it as part or my DVM. If Gilligan (my dog) wasn't good with other pups, etc. I would not bring him to a doggie day care. I just moved from GA to PA; he was in doggie day there and never had any issues. If you can't deal with higher energy dogs, don't have a dog day care service. Also, when I initially when to visit Cubby's Canine Castle, to inquire about their services and processes, an employee was extremely rude to me. Seriously!? I should have taken that as my sign to not pursue this place any further, but I tried anyways. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Extremely frustrating experience- they refused to accept our friendly, trained husky puppy after about an hour of "evaluation," after making us jump through the hoops of submitting records and conducting a phone interview. Rating is for doggy daycare. I have not tried grooming, boarding, or training classes. My dog is a 50 pound lab/terrier mix. My dog loves coming to Cubby's! I brought her to Cubby's when she was six months old and full of energy. After a day at Cubby's, my puppy always came home tired, slept the rest of the day, and the rest of the next day! I know she played all day because she came home with small cuts/scratches on her paws the first time. But that was expected since she was a puppy with soft paws and not use to running around the entire day. After the first time, never had small cuts/scratches on her paws from future trips. When you enroll, you meet their staff and tour their facility (two large indoor play areas and two large outdoor areas). You need to bring a copy of your dog's vaccinations and your dog is given a simple behavioral exam to see how she interacts and gets along with the other dogs that are there. I really like this because this gives you reassurance that the other dogs at the facility are friendly and compatible. I was nervous dropping off my dog the first day of daycare, similar to how a parent drops their child off for their first day of school. I thought about my dog the whole morning and wondered how she was doing. At noon, I got a surprise email from Cubby's. It was a picture of my dog enjoying the sun and playing with the other dogs with a huge smile on her face! I like Cubby's for their friendly staff, great facility, and hours during the work week. I can drop off early at 6:45 am and pick up late at 6:45 pm. I only wish they were open even later on weekdays! (And I wish they weekend daycare.) read more

Cubby's is a delight for our pup. He goes Monday through Friday while we are at work during the day, and then every once and a while on the weekends. Our pup LOVES Cubby's. The staff, especially Shannon, are spectacular. They are so sweet to our pup and treat him like he is their own. They have a TON of space. Two main outdoor areas for when the weather is nice. They have a plastic play castle...hence the name... that our pup loves. Especially the slide! And two main indoor areas for when the weather is not cooperating. They separate the dogs by play type, rather than size. Which is wonderful. I want my dog to be able to socialize with all types of pups. What I love most is that you can pop in at any time. No real appointment necessary and no specific drop off/pick up times. This is great, especially since it is ALWAYS clean when we stop by. Which is amazing considering how many dogs that go there. You have to wonder about those facilities that only let you in at certain times. Are those places only clean during those times?? Think about it. And the staff is always ready and willing to answer any questions that you may have. One day, they noticed our pup had a cough. They called right away to ask questions. They kept him isolated until we confirmed with our vet that he was ok, for the safety of our pup and all of the others. And when isolated, they still get 1:1 play time throughout the day. Every morning, when we drop off our pup, he RUNS to the gate, tail wagging and super excited to start his day at Cubby's. We feel so comfortable with them, that we are trying our first boarding session there this weekend. Thank you, Cubby's! read more

We've been taking our pooch Hank to Cubby's daycare every week day for about a month now - He's still a pup and was a little unsure at first, but now he LOVES it; pulling at the leash and trembling to get inside and play! Once the day is done, Hank climbs in the car and goes right to sleep. A tired pooch is a happy pooch. Every staff member that I've met has been very sweet andall are familiar with Hank which makes me comfortable. An added perk for us is that Cubby's is actually cheaper per day (if you get a package) than our previous dog walkers! Thank you for taking such great care of our little guy! read more

UPDATE*** We don't use Cubby's grooming service anymore, however we use their daycare and boarding services and since past year or so, I have had no issues with them. My dog comes back happy and most importantly healthy from their daycare/boarding. Old review** We have been a customer of cubby's for about 3 years now. We use their grooming, boarding and day care services and used them for basic training when our dog was a puppy. We have a small, 14 pounds dog and since past few times our experience has not been very good. Here are some issues that we have faces lately: Grooming: at least 3-4 of his nail's quicks are cut when he comes back. He is a healthy 2.5 years old dog but since last 2 times he comes back home and throws up a lot. Sometimes pees in his crate after coming back from grooming which he otherwise never does and which makes me think that they probably don't let him pee for a long period of time after his baths. Boarding: he has been coming back dehydrated and sick since past couple of times from boarding. Cubbys used to be a great place to board and groom my pup but lately (I.e. since past 4 months) I haven't had a good experience or even an experience without some issue. I am reconsidering boarding and grooming with them ever again. read more

I've been taking my dog to Cubby's off and on for 10 years. The "off and on" is due to a couple of job changes that made it necessary to utilize other daycares to align with my commute, although I have always taken my dog to Cubby's for boarding over the years. We're back there for occasional daycare now, too, and we utilize the services of their excellent groomer. The most ringing endorsement I can give you is that when we pull into the Cubby's parking lot, my dog gets very excited and drags me to the front gate. She is less concerned about playing with other dogs than she is with getting human attention, and she is always extremely happy at the end of the day. (I understand the Cubby's staff gives excellent belly rubs.) While my dog has liked the other daycare places, I can tell she loves Cubby's best by her level of excitement when she gets to go there. I have left her there for week-long stays, and she is not the least bit traumatized or upset when I pick her up. She's just happy to see me. The staff at Cubby's clearly takes very good care of her. I have recommended Cubby's to a number of other dog owners, and they have all had very good experiences with this business. read more

My dog has been going to this daycare since he was a puppy, he is now 4 years old. Today when picking him up, I'm told he allegedly bit someone when they tried to "push" him back to open a door. First off my dog in the 4 years going there has never bitten anyone or any dog, however he comes home with bite marks all over his legs, assuming from rough play which is allowed. That didn't bother me, what bothered me was how my dog came out shaking like a leaf, he only shakes like this when someone either yells at him excessively or if he's scared. I find it very hard to believe my dog bit someone without just cause, meaning they were probably to aggressive "pushing" him. He's a big dog, and didn't break skin, which means it was a gentle warning. He will not be going back to this daycare, which seems to have new doggie sitters every other week, this one which accuses my dog of biting them. You lost a loyal customer today, and I hope whoever reads this review strongly considers other daycare options before sending their dog here. Dogs can't talk, if they could I wonder if any of us would send them back. read more

My husband has been taking our Jack Russell Terrier, Meggie, once a week for the past 2 years to Cubby's. She started going as a puppy and now is over 2 years old and I can only say wonderful things about the staff. We have used the day care, the boarding and the grooming and give the staff a 5 star rating on each venue. Meggie is so excited on "Cubby Day" that she literally follows my husband around in the morning until they leave together in daddy's truck. When she comes home to me at night she is happy to "tell me all about her day" with excited yelps and leaps of joy. She is a handful for me at times, so I know the staff have a lot of patience and judging by her excitement to go each week, I know she must love all the handlers at Cubby's. So don't hesitate to take your puppy or adult dog there......I wouldn't take Meggie anywhere else because I know she is safe and loved there. read more

Overall, I'm more comfortable with Cubby's Canine Castle than the larger ones in our area, but something about this place rubs me wrong. They don't allow you to tour their facility, and the owner Sarah Winkelvoss is one of the most unfriendly, least personable people I have ever met or done business with. Every time I take my dog to Cubby's Canine Castle and Sarah is there, she avoids eye contact, is dismissive and kinda seems annoyed that she has to deal with my dog. Never once has she thanked me for my business. Never a smile from Sarah at drop-off or pickup. Not even so much as a hello or good-bye! And if you don't use their other services and attend their training classes as they advise, you are treated like a second rate customer. (Maybe this is why I get the cold shoulder.) The only saving grace is that Cubby's is a relatively small facility, and the other staff is friendly - high school or college aged kids who most probably are able to keep positive due to their love of dogs and future plans working with animals. read more
