Alex is an amazing dog walker & trainer. He not only gets to know your pet but also you so that he can assess the training properly. He is always in a good mood which is important when you're working with dogs because they feel energy. I'm very happy that he has helped my Kobe gain confidence and not feel so overwhelmed when he goes outside. I would recommend his services a million times!! :)

I am hoping people take this review as a warning and our story creates awareness for all parties…read moreinvolved. If I can help save just one other dog's life, it is worth it. Jalen, an otherwise healthy 2-year-old Weimaraner, almost died after being boarded at BarkU. An aggressive, yet true statement. He contracted Kennel Cough after being boarded that progressed into antibiotic resistant pneumonia with several complications. He was hospitalized in the ICU for 11 days and underwent lifesaving emergency surgery, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, and aggressive antibiotic treatment. His odds of his surviving were very slim but thanks to the very skilled veterinary professionals in charge of his care, he miraculously pulled through, however has a very long road to recovery. He incurred just under $40,000 in vet bills but is here with me today. I am a long-time dog owner and familiar with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (Kennel Cough). Kennel Cough is an umbrella term for about a dozen infectious communicable viruses and bacteria that are known to be commonly found in dog social situations, such as boarding, day care, shelters, and dog parks. Normally, if a dog catches one of these infections, its outcome is nothing more than a common cold, however there are always exceptions to the rules, and Jalen is exhibit A. Degree of infection is dependent upon many factors, including exposure to the source, viral load, dog age, health, etc...The best protection from Kennel Cough is good hygiene and cleaning practices. Although there are vaccines available, they do not protect against every strain of Kennel Cough and it was only after Jalen got sick that I learned that BarkU did not require any Kennel Cough for any of their dogs; illegal, no...unwise, yes. Jalen and his brother, Barkley were up to date on all their vaccines, including Kennel Cough. Jalen and Barkley were exposed to BarkU facilities 3 times...a temperament test and 2 boardings and came home sick each time. Barkley came down with a shallow cough after the temperament test, which I thought was odd since they were only in the facilities for no more than 20 minutes but Jalen was fine, and no serious treatment was needed so I just kind of shrugged it off. After the first boarding, both dogs came home sick. Barkley had a cough which never progressed past that, but Jalen's Kennel Cough was severe. He was prescribed a 2-week treatment of antibiotics. I promptly notified BarkU of the exposure in case they wanted to notify other pet parents or implement extra cleaning. They informed me that it was "Kennel Cough season" and were sorry to hear that he was sick. No other communication was made. Although reluctant, I needed to board Jalen and Barkley 5 weeks later. I figured it was unlikely they would come home sick again and took another chance with BarkU. Upon pickup, Barkley had a shallow cough that never did progress, but Jalen was very ill and was taken to the ER that night. The vet later confirmed that the first bout of Kennel Cough likely never resolved and being exposed and stressed in the same environment so quickly just exacerbated the situation. I called BarkU to inform them that Jalen was fighting for his life on mechanical ventilation after being exposed to an infectious agent in their facility. I was told that my information would be passed on to the manager. To date, I never received any follow-up communication. Communicable diseases are something that a pet owner takes a risk of their dog contracting any time they choose to board, day care, dog park, etc.. However, for the price that BarkU charges ($900 for 5 nights for 2 dogs), I would expect impeccable stringent cleaning and safety procedures to be in place, which clearly was not the case since my dogs came home sick 3 of 3 times. Not requiring Kennel Cough vaccine was also a huge red flag. Ironically, one week to the day that I called to report Jalen's life-threatening illness, I received an email that beginning in October, BarkU is now requiring Bordetella Vaccines for all their clients. Call it coincidence or not, I am happy that they are implementing that policy. Most disappointing though, is the complete lack of empathy and care shown by the management staff. Twice, I notified BarkU that my dogs came home ill with an incredibly contagious illness and they neglected to inform any other owners of a potential exposure. Prior to my boarding, I was not informed of any ongoing issues with Kennel Cough, but reading through some reviews after the fact, people were reporting these instances. I fault the cleaning practices for him getting sick, however also understand that in environments like these, prevention is not always full proof...but communication is. Not informing your clients of a potential Kennel Cough outbreak is taking informed choice of their dog's health out of their hands. I urge you to do better and do right by your clients.

I am incredibly frustrated and disheartened with our experience at BARK U. I chose this facility…read morebecause they claim to provide an environment where "each dog will thrive" and is placed in groups based on "temperament and play style". As the owner of an energetic 20 lb terrier puppy, this specialized approach was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, the reality did not match the marketing. After investing over $1,800, including $665 for 3 initial BARK U training, $45 per day for the 6 half days of daycare, and $875 for a behavioral program they specifically recommended, our puppy was abruptly "dismissed". The reasons cited were typical puppy/ terrier behaviors like posturing, mounting, and nipping that we were working to address. What is most upsetting is the lack of consistency. We were led to believe that as long as we were investing the time and money into their recommended path, BARK U would support his progress. Instead, they took our money, sent us to expensive outside training, and then showed him the door before that training was even completed (he had only finished one of the five behavioral sessions). Upon dismissal, no alternatives like individual play were offered; we were simply told our puppy was "no longer eligible to attend daycare or lodging services". Overall, if you have a puppy that isn't perfect from day one, be wary. Despite their claims of specialized care and onsite behavioral trainers, they seem unwilling to actually work with dogs that require any extra attention or follow-through, even when the owner follows every recommendation provided.

I was not given a copy of the contract at that time due to a printer issue or something along those lines. I have worked with a trainer before and the trainer taught my dog what I wanted him to learn. SMS only teaches the dog what they want them to learn. The clause about not writing a negative review about them has been removed from their paperwork. As another poster wrote it was there when he went & he is correct. I have heard it from others as well. If you are confident your work is good why would anyone put that in a contract?? What are they trying to hide?? I did ask the judge if I am allowed to post on the net and he said yes as long as what I say is true to my experience. The experience was 100% negative. I took Sal to court. I didn't win becuase all the judge would say is you signed a contract. Yes, but the contract wasn't given to me to keep until months later. Sal admitted changing his website just a couple weeks before he had to appear in court. I find that interesting when he had many month earlier to do it. (he told the judge he did it a couple weeks before appearing) What was he hiding?? Sal-owner showed a video to the judge of my dog behaving. However my dog could do this before he went. He was there to learn other things I needed him to learn. However that was not a part of the mundane, repetitious program he offers. He told the judge my dog was wonderful! BUT he kept my dog in the beginner class (his admission) for 8 months. WHY? No response. If my dog didn't do something perfect I was told to increase the number on the electric collar. As an educator I know negative reinforcement never works and raising it was not the solution. He yelled at me for coming too early but in the contract it states if you are late he will fine you $50.00. He also yelled at me for sometimes leaving early. As an adult I need to make my own decissions and can leave when I want to. His ad said his trainer were certified. They are not. I learned that the hard way by contacting dog training schools (after I left) and was told they require 2-300 hours of training before one is certified. He reworded his ad (as I mentioned earlier) right before we went to court. One female trainer spent 40% of the class time on her phone. I could go on and on but why bother. In closing-I find it comical that after I took him to court he sent me an email to write a review about the company. I wonder what he was expecting. Do NOT sign the contract when you are there. Take it home and read it carefully line by line - word by word (as per the judge). Someone else was coerced into signing and could not get her deposit back even though she contacted them within hours of signing it. Please feel free to contact me if you want to discuss further.

When asked to point out the instructor who gave me the instructions he said I got - he couldn't do it. Of course not, it never happened. Allowing trainers to be on their phone during class time is NOT what I was paying for. I found the program to be very boring and mundane. I do not believe in negative reinforcement to get a positive behavior. Positive reinforcement works much better. I can not in good faith recommend them.

I have purchased various things, used their grooming service, visited for Santa photos, etc! Petsmart is pet friendly so I often bring my puppy along with me. I highly recommend this Petsmart! First things first, their app is great for discounts...but you need to activate the deals..it's not automatic. Sign up for a Treats acct to earn points towards dollars off your future purchases. Keep an eye out when you're supposed to earn bonus points because twice I've had to email corporate asking to add my points to my account. My puppy is a rescue and Petsmart offers a great coupon booklet for free if you rescued your dog. Just bring in paperwork validating your dog is a rescue, give them the # related to your Treats acct, and the booklet is yours. Great coupons inside including one for a free bag of dog food! My first purchase here was for puppy food when I found out I was bringing my dog home. I wanted to buy what his foster mom was feeding him. Petsmart not only had the food in stock but it was slightly better priced than chewy...much better priced than amazon. I found a coupon on the shelf that the dog food company had left for customers and earned Treats points! The store has lots of options of different products, outfits, toys, etc. Grooming - I have only been for the puppy bath, brush and trim. My first visit was well priced (discount for new grooming clients) and Amanda did a great job. I thought my puppy would be in and out but she kept him for 2 hours. Amanda took time when I was picking up my puppy to give me recommendations on caring for my dog's coat and when to come back. The booking process is easy online. Petsmart also constantly has coupons/deals on grooming. In the past 2 months I've seen buy 2, get 1 free; $15 off; etc. I also bought a $100 gift card and rec'd $15 bonus bucks (black friday deal). Training - I'm going to give it a try. Again, very well priced. The training area is fairly small but I have a small puppy so I think it will work out. There are endless deals on training as well. One I just rec'd is $40 off a package of classes. One time when I went in, their was a promotional co there and I rec'd a free collapsible water dish. Santa - We just had photos done with Santa. I didn't know what to expect so i'll leave some detail here. You must sign up for an appt ahead of time. They do not stick to the time. You arrive, check in, and then get in line. The Santa was not a great looking Santa but you got the idea. Humans can be in the photo. You can take the photo with your cell phone or if you want to be in the photo, there's someone from the store available to take the photo for you. This was all free. Petsmart is surrounded by two free parking lots. Parking is easy!

There are different schools of thought on dog training but one thing in particular shines about Laurie: she is great at teaching you how to communicate with your dog effectively in a household/family dynamic. She is training me as much as she is my dogs. I could easily give this review 5 stars. Only thing holding me back is time. I've only used services for a few weeks now.
