    Meadowlands Golf Course

    Meadowlands Golf Course

I enjoyed our round at Meadowlands. I think this course is worth playing at least once for the…read moreexperience. It's the only course in the Triad designed by Hale Irwin and one of only four Irwin designs in North Carolina (that I'm aware of). To date, I believe it's the only Irwin course I've played. Both my dad and a friend recommended this course to me. The course opened in 1995 and I think it's seen better days. When we played, the conditions were OK, not great. For about a $50 weekend daily fee, the course conditioning was average (perhaps at best) compared to other public courses I've played for about the same price. The course design feels relatively "open" in that there are a handful of holes that play directly alongside one another with little to no separation. Houses line several of the holes and 18 parallels the driving range. There are more typical, tree-lined, secluded-feeling holes too. All in all, I think the layout is interesting enough. The signature hole is probably No. 10 which is a longish par-4 featuring a tee shot over the property's biggest pond. It's a scenic hole as the pond extends all the way towards the green. Holes 2, 3, and 8 surround the course's smaller pond to the south. This is a par-72 course with five sets of tees. From the tips (golds), the course measures 6,778 yards with a 73.0/140 rating/slope. We played from the whites: 6,008 yards, 69.5/127. I found this course to be average in difficulty and shot a 93 (a solid round for me; I'm not good). My dad and I went off as a twosome, riding, on a Sunday. We pushed the group in front of us, but never thought the pace of play was too slow. Admittedly, I would've preferred we played faster, but there was only two of us. The course has bentgrass greens and they were in good shape. The fairways are Bermuda grass and they were mostly in fair shape. They've got a sizable driving range, two practice bunkers (a plus; some courses have none), a practice chipping green, and a large practice putting green. You hit off both mats and grass at the range. The clubhouse is basic and no-frills. Service was fine. Overall, I think this is an A-OK golf course and facility. I'm not sure I'd come back on my own, but I wouldn't be opposed to revisiting if one of my friends wanted to play here.

Rosa Lee Manor - Where our ceremony took place, although there were plenty of other beautiful options!

They also let us choose our own caterer which helped us save so much money. There are so many gorgeous locations for a ceremony, and the reception hall is spacious and filled with natural light! Once the Sun goes down, the entire venue transformed into a romantic dream with string lights draped all over! We also stayed overnight before the wedding and made use of the hot tub! It was so worth it to wake up the day of our wedding and already be there. I only give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the grounds aren't super disability-friendly and communication was a bit difficult and felt more confusing than it had to be, but still a lovely place worth the price!

The DJ we had did a poor job as emcee and admitted to forgetting to bring our songs list. We had e-mailed a detailed list of the songs we wanted to hear played and were very specific that we wanted older dance songs played first - classics, like Sinatra - for our older relatives to dance to. Instead we got mostly modern music right from the get go. We had to repeatedly ask the DJ to play older songs and he seemed incredulous of our requests. When he finally agreed, the dance floor was packed with our family and friends who had been waiting for something to dance to. Likewise, when we and our guests put another request - one that had been on our song sheet - he was nearly unwilling to play it. After arguing with us, he announced over the mic that this song was not his idea. But our guests rushed to the dance floor once it started playing. Our bouquet toss was for a specific mix of songs, which he did not prepare and played incorrectly on the night of. I wish I had simply made the mix myself so it could have been done correctly. Also as I called single friends to the floor, the DJ made fun of one girl's name over the mic! Embarrassing and rude! We knew what music we wanted, were very as specific in our requests, and are consequently disappointed it felt like a fight to get the music played we wanted. We asked for a mix (and provided a songs list!) starting with more older tunes first and ending with modern music to make sure all of our guests could hit the dance floor. Instead, we feel like we got a mish mash of whatever the DJ felt like playing and the requests we could convince him to take. It was not a bad night overall, but it was infuriating to feel as though our requests and even taste were in question. SO disappointed we got a such a poor replacement for Mark.

He sent another DJ, Matthew (who was INCREDIBLE). He said the two of them would talk over the itinerary the morning of. We still didn't feel comfortable with the situation, but felt we had no choice. For the inconvience he threw in uplighting. We told him we only wanted white lights, we found pictures that our guest had posted, all including pictures of the lighting that was purple, blue, and green. We wanted everything to be classy looking. During the ceremony, the song never switched to the song I was supposed to walk down the isle to, until much later. Which in turn made a big gap before I was able to come down the isle. After the ceremony and pictures, the entire bridal party was waiting to be introduced and we found the DJ outside sitting, (his booth was inside in the ballroom). After we were all introduced a friend of ours sang and played guitar. I didn't find out until later that the DJ didn't bring the appropriate cords or mic stand. The DJ had called me earlier that week and asked for the singers phone number to go over what cords he needed to bring. We found out the day before the wedding, he never called. Throughout the night, the DJ wandered around. A lot of time was spent trying to find him. There were multiple songs and birthday announcements that we requested, that never happened. My bridesmaids and pastor were searching for him most of the night and telling him to play upbeat music. He didn't do much to get people on the dance floor. We told him multiple times that the ONLY person to give a toast was the maid of honor, he calls up the maid of honor and best man. Leaving our best man unprepared and put on the spot. Everything we requested from Mark either didn't happen or had to be reminded. We also requested a speaker to be left outside, were the reception was also taking place. I had to ask him to turn the music on outside. He tells me he wasn't prepared for an additional speaker. We had specifically asked for music outside. We had a special song that was supposed to be played during our sendoff, which was outside. Once we realized the music wasn't on, the DJ tells us the battery died on his speaker. All in all, we were VERY disappointed in our choice of DJ. We felt like everything we requested was not done, and also put more stress on me on my wedding day.
